I get the feeling ESO will start to feel like Swtor. Tons of emails thrown at me for new cash shop shit while waiting months and months for actual content. Feels like it already.

    You stay sassy!

i have no idea what it is about this game, but i just can't force myself to play it for more than 15 minutes before getting bored out of my mind. it completely baffles me.

it's very pretty, it runs smoothly, good music, it's got ES lores....and yet i just cant get myself to log on. last time i did, i litteraly spawned in the world, ran around for 2 minutes and logged off.

And so the slow downward spiral into F2P hell begins...

But it's what the masses want, so it's what we'll all get.

I can't help but get the feeling that nowadays the monetization teams of most big MMO development studios are more creative than the actual game developers. They certainly seem to work harder at their jobs.

I wonder how long it will be before all games are sold in modular form and all require an internet connection to function. You download the "core game" for free, but to get any kind of real fun out of it you'll have to purchase half a dozen modules (DLC's) to put some flesh on the bones...

    Sweet! Definitely getting the leopard!

I haven't played yet however I have to laugh at these complainers. So far nothing I've seen online even comes close to the sheer stupidity of supporting the economies of games like STO, GW2 or Archeage are increasingly becoming more and more of a mobile app korean system yet these same people who support those titles economies will come on here and complain about the most tame of economic requirements from these other F2P stores that don't have any progression mixed in with their purchases.

If this keeps going the way it is I'm totally getting the game it looks fun and doesn't have the evil seed that these other games seem to revel in.

For those who keep whining here's the rest of the items you can get and a guide as to what that means exactly since you can't seem to keep up with what buy to win means [ especially to those who think that gem exchange or dilithium exchange  or direct purchasing of in game currecy (Archeage) somehow doesn't equal pay to win. ]     https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=1&v=xZnOGngOsgE

ESO is B2P not f2p....but yeah , when the game focus in how many $ we will get developing this cash shop mount or this dungeon.....

Yep. People will get what they deserve. The path of least resistance leads downward.

But so far the crown store is okay. I don't see any p2w yet. I don't have anything to spend crowns on. I don't care about pets and cosmetics. I will only buy dlc and xp pots (I know people will say that's p2w) but I don't want to grind alts up to vr14. That's crazy.

You have to remember that ESO was originally a sub-game.  Even if its cash shop monetization is no where near as bad as pretty much every other F2P game out there (besides MAYBE Path of Exile), it's still worse than when it was... you know, a sub game.

Originally motifs dropped in-game when ESO was a sub-game.

Now that ESO is not a sub-game, they don't.

To anyone who played ESO as a sub-game, THIS IS A STEP BACKWARDS.  Yes, it's not as bad as GW2 or STO or Archeage or whatever, BUT FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF SOMEONE WHO ORIGINALLY PLAYED IT AS A SUB GAME, it is worse than what they used to play.

It's only going to get worse from here.  If they aren't going to go P2W, sadly I HIGHLY doubt Zenimax will make enough money from selling motifs to not have to resort to cutting out more things from the game and slapping them into the cash shop. After all, if the game was doing well, they wouldn't have had to resort to this in the first place.

The fallacy that both white-knights and haters make in regard to XP pots is that they don't take into account the need of exp for the game itself when considering it.

In a game where reaching the cap of whatever is relatively easy, exp potions, labor point purchases, and resource purchases are no big deal.  It means that someone might cap out one month earlier than you, but you'll still be at cap in the end.

In a game where the cap is nigh impossible to reach, however, buying things that help you "progress faster" is actually a permanent advantage in practice.  If there is no cap, and you're "progressing faster" than someone else, they will NEVER catch up to you (unless you do something crazy like take a vacation from the game for several months, etc). Thus a permanent advantage.

ESO's case, far as I can tell, is the former, so exp potions are no big deal. They're also no big revenue stream for Zenimax for that same reason (as people will cap themselves and their alts soon enough and thus not buy more exp potions), so I'm sure Zenimax will need to find other avenues of monetization for the cash shop because exp potion sales will definately not be enough to keep the game afloat.

As it is now, there is literally NOTHING that I want to buy in the crown store. The leveling grind, after you've already done it once or twice is just hellish to me. I can't even imagine doing it again without decent grinding spots, which ZOS has nerfed at every opportunity.

This makes me think they want to sell xp pots, though I agree it probably won't be enough. But who knows? Maybe there are enough people who will keep buying pets and costumes, so that's what they keep making and putting into the CS instead of content. Maybe those kinds of customers will become their target audience.

Anyway, as it is now, since b2p I feel much less invested in the game than before and only check in for my mail, to feed my mounts (out of hope for the future, however ill-founded) and for my guild's pvp night. Pvp has become more fun since b2p, at least for now.

    BS!

Found just 3 of them today by running around and searching for stuff as we did before. Don't tell ppl such a crap.

I really don't see why players would buy xp potions as the game levels ok as it is.  But one day they will have new races and new professions, and they will sell extra character slots.

im OK with them selling extra character slots because they arent taking away existing ones (cough swtor).

The exp rate is currently going at a good pace, not too slow but not too fast. Lets hope they dont make it slower for non subbers. I dont care if they give more exp to subbers, just give them more instead of taking away from non subbers. I personally dont need exp potions because i take my time in the world my character lives in. The last thing i want is to reach max level then have to quit the game after seeing all the open world areas.

    Correct.

If there is one message that Zenimax do not want circulating - look at their advertising - is that new purchasers (console players) for whom it will never have had a subscription will need to spend money in the cash shop.

I do agree however with TiamatRoar about the xp pots being "no big deal" and "unnecessary". In my opinion the only reason they have added them in is to try and make the optional sub appear worthwhile. After all there is no DLC and so all optional subscribers are doing, essentially, is supporting the cash shop to the tune of $15 a month. Maybe in a 2+ years time when there is a vast amount of DLC someone might feel it is better subscribing; they will be a subscription freeloader - getting all the content for the cost of one or two months sub rather than having to buy it - but that is Zenimax's problem. Always assuming they ever put out enough content to make it even a consideration.

I'm only saying what I myself was told.

....if the motifs they just put in the store are actually dropping in the world, I have to question what the point of putting them in the store was.  Is ANYONE going to actually buy them under these circumstances?  Oo

I am seriously confused on how they intend to stay afloat at all with a monetization system like this.

I think this game would be fun on console. I didn't like it for PC, but idk. Not worth buying again for me.

good thing it only costed me around 40 bucks when it launched. Now the 20 bucks transfer to console which includes the full game i think its worth the switch for me.

Oh, I didn't know that's how it worked lol. I had the pre ordered digital deluxe edition or w/e, but I only redeemed the pre order code, so I played like 2 days during the headstart, quit, and played for like 3 days a few months ago. I just couldn't get into the game at all lol.

I don't care about new mounts or pets, got a mount and pet that's all i need. I just wish they would fix some bugs that stops progression on certain quests.
  • observerobserver Member RarePosts: 3,685

Those items are vague in description.

Are crafting motifs like boosts in gw2?

What about these?  Am i to believe there isn't any way to reset skills and attributes without having one of these?  I wish they were more specific in details.

    • Skill Respec Scroll (700 crowns)
    • Attribute Respec Scroll (700 crowns)
    • Pledge of Mara (1,000 crowns)
I have to admit.. that mount looks amazing as hell.
  • TokkenTokken Member EpicPosts: 3,650

I still haven't seen or wanted to buy anything from the crown shop yet. The items are pointless and fluff. You don't even need a mount in game. It's not that wide open. So, Waiting for pay to win items and experience potions :-) lol

sell backpack/bank storage upgrades for crowns.

    sell plastic surgery for crowns.

sell mounts that fart rainbows when they gallop.

  • ThaneThane Member EpicPosts: 3,534

selling styles, mounts and stuff seems totaly legit.

valid move for the "now and then" player who dont wanna farm ages to get all styles (like me *G*)

ps: i think you are onto something there with that farting rainbows thing. claptrap mode cant be wrong :)

    Great ideas!

I think it would be cool if they sold an orc pig mount (like in Darkfall) that farts green clouds when it runs.
