SOE launching an attack on us? This should be good...

With all the brass from SOE coming out and attacking us/defending themselves on fan based, comic pages, and general forum web sites, I can't help but think there was a memo handed down from Sony Corporate to SOE to "attack the attackers". Meaning, it's time to go on the offensive... Attack us.

I could be wrong, the peeps in Austin could just be going on the offensive because of the thrashing Jeff got, or they are losing thier minds because of lack of sales and this is they're last ditch effort to stick up for themselves.

Either way, sure is fun watching the show! image

Watching these losers from SOE/Austin try to flame an OP on a forum is just pure entertainment.

I dont think they would really bother attacking you why would they most large well really most companies in genral really couldnt careless what you think, and really people are funny they will complian and moan and whine, and so forth, but yet they are still making lots of money that very evident, and they always will make lots of money because there are always lots of people out there who want to buy and spend money so really, in the end, they really couldnt care less about you or me or anyone.

It certainly suggests that the community and media reaction has had it's effect.
Seems SOE management felt threatened and decided to push back on the PR front.

Too bad they don't put the same effort into taking SWG from alpha to beta.

They've clearly figured out this isn't going to "blow over".

Despiration breeds weirdness. They're backed into the corner like an injured wolverine.

LOL, no.. but I did use the name SofaKing in Muds back in the late 80's/early 90's. And I used the handle in "Red Baron" online in 93-94.

It's a pretty obvious twist on words. I thought I was the original creator of the name, but I see the name alot. Many people online ask me the same question that you did.

    now back on topic

I think this kind of criticism is quite unfair. I really despise SOE for their "let's head for a bigger market and screw the old customers" strategy.

However, I think Smedley's posts in FOH and his letter in Penny Arcade (which he is right, by the way, it really was unethical to publicize a private letter) were created out of his personal frustration rather than a PR strategy. If you were in his position, wouldn't you be frustrated, not only from the disappointment of losing subscriptions due to your errors, but also for undeserved criticism?

Esp. in the FOH boards discussion, he held his ground quite a lot better than Utnayan and the rest.

I don't think that Smedley's letter could be compared to the Something Awful case, where a game company was trying to censor a bad review through legal extortion.

Smedley sent a letter expressing his personal disagreement and disappointment on Penny Arcade's comments in a private manner. He made no attempt to make a big deal out of PA's review and he made no attempt whatsoever to censor them or challenge their credibility. I think it was wrong of them to use it publicly (which was never intended) in order to further support their opinions.

Ok.. I stopped laughing... took me a bit to get up and prop myself up too type this... the only thing that keeps me from giggling myself to death is you saying your joking... U are joking right?

There is nothing in Penny Arcades post that was de-Flamatatory...  EQ2 graphics do suck.

Smed is a noob, and the artist that pulled the discussion is a noob.

I apologize for using the "Noob" term... but I really don't know what else to call them... butt heads come to mind, but I don't think those name have the same impact. I think Im sticking with Noob's.. just because it seems to fit... So Noob's it is!

I have no idea about Smed and this PA thing.  I was purely unaware of it.  That being said there is also the point that if you don't want everyone to read it don't write it down.  But also, there is a certain level of professionalism that Smed expected and obviously didn't get there.  And any point from here  made by him is just going to be turned into another Smed roasting. (Anyone have a link to this?)

SOE isn't attacking us.  But there is a point where everyone breaks and they shoot off at the mouth.   There is a point where I'm sure they decided enough is enough and they go from there.  We've all been in a situation where we're damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Basically it's called damage control. image

  • ShaydeShayde Member Posts: 4,529

Oh pul-leeze. Smed sent the letter knowing that it could easily be reprinted. How do I know this? He said so in the letter HE SENT ME THE OTHER DAY.. and allthe others reposted recently.

He has also had a bug up there for a long time about Something Awful over their EQ2 stance. They even refused to help their charity over it.

Smed is just crying foul because it made him look bad, plain and simple.

    Unprofessional?  Maybe...

But I have had enough "professionalism" from these people with their sanitized, contentless, vague, and "feel good" style made for TV press releases.

I for one don't want "professionalism."  I want good old fashioned blue collar truth.

And I applaud those in the fan sites who are posting the information we as the fans want and need.  Because for the good of the industry, these crooks need to be exposed.

I would like to point out that one of the classic symptoms of a company in trouble is when they start blaming their customers and/or employees for their problems. The company's management will go into a corporate cognitive dissonance, they believe one thing but then act in a different way from what they really believe.

Looks to me that SOE management knows they have made bad decisions but instead of acting to correct those mistakes they point the blame somewhere else.

I agree it was wrong to post the private letter.

However........if Smed doesn't know that anything he sends is subject to being posted in the public, then he truly is a noob.

This whole thing is getting stranger by the minute....this is the worst case of coporate suicide I have had the pleasure to watch.

SOE has reaped everything they have sowed.

I dont see how what I said is trolling at all. Everyone is very upset and strongly feel that they have been done wrong by SOE and LA for wanting to go after a larger market and bascially in a nut shell telling the existing client base to screw off but in a nice way. Unfortunitly in a wrold were business had morals and values this would never happen and one would be shocked and outraged by such a situation that exists right now with SOE and LA, however we live in a world were the only value is money and thats it. People who have been with a company for 30 years and are 6 months away from retireing are being fired and laid off just so that the company will not have to give them a package, people are being paid lower wages that are not based on what is really needed just to support themselves from day to day, customers complian about service and not getting treated right, no one cares anymore, a company dont care about there present customers and the reason is that there are so many other customers out there that will buy there product no matter what they hear or are told that is negitive about there service or product lots of people will buy it anyways, so really in the end talking about oh how worried SOE is and oh my Jolie is in deep poop, all this is so silly becasue its simple, if he was going to get fired he would have been canned already, and he is still here, if SWG was doing so bad and terrible it would be shut down right away, becuase its a money drain, since it hasnt been shut down means its still making lots of money for them, when you have something still making a lot of money its still considered a big huge hit and the people who run are doing a great job, and thats how it is looked at. Thats how the business world works, it sucks its sad and crapy but hey what can you do, the answer is simple not a damn thing.

We do not know both sides of the story so we cannot determine if PA was, indeed, acting unprofessionally. If his co-works had acted poorly, then he has a right to vent in away that reflects unprofessional conduct against himself.
