When was the last time you watched a movie and though, “Wow, this would make a great MMO! There are different groups and conflicts, that could be one class, and this would make a cool class too. It’s perfect!” If you play MMOs regularly, then you probably have something like that go through your mind during most of your favorite films.

A Marvel or DC Universe game that allows you to choose your own backstory and powers... Maybe something like City of Heroes + City of VIllains and let people duke it out for metropolis or whatever the city name is. Each xpac would be a new city and be fought for and controlled by either heroes or villains (like a pvp node) and after a few xpacs, youd have the equivalent of a world or universe that is run by superheros or villains.
Idk, just a thought
Underworld :P
I know, I know, no vampire game for me.
How does Serenity/Firefly NOT make this list... unless it was DQed for being a TV show first?
... plus we already have WildStar.
Definately Serenity. Mad Max would be awesome for crafting your own vehicles.
Also The Thing, if you got infected you could choose to die and rez or continue playing as a creature, would add a level of paranoia to grouping lol.
enjoy

I had fun once, it was terrible.
Good list. They were working on a Highlander Game but it dropped of the radar. The thing about the game is that there would never be one unless you have perma-death. Also new players would always be joining and old players making new characters to play. Perhaps the more characters you defeated the more buffs you got. Or you could have tournament style play.
I would like to add Supernatural and Bloodlines to the list even though one is a tv show and the other a video game. If I had to pick movies they would be Fast and Furious, Big Trouble in Little China, and Divergent.

Prophecy and also Legion could make for a decent MMO universe
you know mankind vs nasty angels

Dune.
Star Trek.
Babylon 5.

No thanks. I don't want the class I play (or even magic I use) to determine the gender of my character.
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.
When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.
No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

Akira
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Wasn't that a quote about women? Or, I should say about relationships.

It made last week's list!

Old franchise themed games are not cool, their popularity lasts for one month or less, and then they vanish like dust in the wind, or get lost in the undergrounds of the free-to-play lists in websites like this one.
Mad Max mmo? Fallen Earth has even more lore than Mad Max (cos you need lore, that's a fact, more than Mad Max has) and it's a bluff. Not saying is a bad game, but is just mehhh. Highlander? You have tons like that. Terminator? Might be cool, but can be get repetitive pretty soon... About AvsP and Tron: Just NO, they wouldnt work, the first is unbalanced and you wouldnt need many different game styles only playing with marines, cos predators and aliens are way too powerful, therefore the only good way for a AvsP online game is just that, a game with online feature, thing that exists currently which best version was released in 2000, soooo no more AvsP please.
Tron is lame, and the visuals are too repetitive, I can't even stand it for a movie length duration.
Theme-based mmo are a true crap, the history can tell it. The only one which was a success is Wow and because it was one of the first, and certainly the one which made the mmo genre something really popular. Before WOW the mmo were merely for nerds, and you know that as well
Extra: I do would like to see a Firefly mmo (a real one, no that thing...), but you would need similar resources than Star Citizen, more perhaps, cos you need not only the ships, but the landscapes and characters. I could be more focused on the second thing, but c'mon, you need Ships, cos ships are cool!
Definitely agree with the:
Serenity
Dune
Mad Max
All would make awesome game worlds. I'm not sure how good tron would be, but a Blade Runner game would probably be an interesting futuristic one.
Unless you went with "there can only be one" (but it will never happen). Done well, it could keep players engaged and striving, like the series did. But never resolve so that no one player ever "wins" the game.
Pretty good list.
The Highlander idea might work well along with some of the ideas behind Crowfall, basically campaigns with win/lose scenarios. After all, there can be only one.
The problem I have with Tron though is that there isn't a whole lot of background to the ideas presented in the movies. Yes there's the Programs vs. Users thing, and then the whole Clu backstory. Aside from that, there isn't much and I fear a lot of the game would boil down to the mini-games that were in the movies.
I was with you until Tron...
And you forgot the best one of them all, Dune.

Your thoughts on a highlander MMO are awesome!
I'm good with it all except Tron. After that last movie, I throw up a bit in my mouth when I hear that name.
