i agree only with Mad Max, for the rest i would like to see movie universies turned into MMOs from other titles like :
Mad Max ok we agree..
Dune, really great movie, there was also planning one more.. Also it could be a great sci-fi and fantasy mix like the one Skyforge is trying, but it lackss the background story..FlashGordon with a few expansion there could be 4 factions Dune natives, Imperials, and the other 2 houses, and later they could add more houses and planets..
FlashGordon, the movie maybe it's cult but the movie itself and the comics offered an huge universe with rich enviroments and factions/races, also there fits a lot of fun.
Jupiter Ascending, the movie was bad, but the world around it and the artwork feed (at least mine) imagination with a universe similar with EVE online (immortals and factions builded around profit and corprations) but it offers a much more brighter world and it's scaled from the ships to the players as units with exosuits etc. It could become this which EVE failed to do with Dust...
Planet of the Apes, great movie, huge and old universe where you have to choose between high tech humans and strong with high endurance apes. The developers could also add bonuses in order to push players to create race based factions, trying to recreate the fall of humanity...
John Carter, also great movie and another old universe from a wonderfull book. Also there the human could be a single nad non playable mostly like a heroic figoure (John Carter) and the players will have to choose between the 2 main factions of Mars and the exotic 4 handed aliens. also imagine if there was a home city which was moving around .. that would be great, also the ships there are great and the developers could fit a gameplay similar to WorldsAdrift, actually it could be a proper story background for that game...
With a lot of these recommendations I feel the actual game we would see created would never live up to even mildly reserved expectations.
In fact I would go so far as to say most would be cash shop money grabs that would actually turn out as sad missed opportunities. Like SWTOR was for me.
I'm sure people are imaging how awesome it would be to make a character and be in whatever movie/book universe as a MMORPG but the reality of the released game would probably be a disappointment for a lot of people.

Mad Max is a given. As is a future set Terminator. Something like Firefly relies far too much on the chemistry of it's actors and it's writing to translate into anything special as a MMORPG though (despite how good the series was).
On top of those two, I would throw...
Planet of the Apes
Journey to the Center of the Earth (I think there is a game in the hollow Earth idea... )
Uhm, we already have a Star Trek MMO - "It's Trek Jim, but not as we know it"
Dune would be awesome. Babylon 5 I would back for sure if Michael would be at the wheel and it would be 'open world' without fixed player factions - the series had factions switch constantly as well...
Kinda missed Blake's 7 in the list. One of the best Sci-Fi series ever (pretty dated now though), but if written well I think it could rock if you leave the last episode out ;-)
Avatar. There would be your choice of tribes, mounts, locations and perhaps playing humans(marines, doctors, etc). Flying would be incredible as would some of the cool mounts. Spears, bows and guns...very cool!
I agree with some of them on the original list of five. Highlander would be epic. I would also like to see these two in the MMO, Stargate and Firefly. I want them done well or else it ruins the entire concept.
Completely agree with Mad Max and Tron. Those would be so awesome! I would buy a Tron MMO in a heartbeat if they did it based on the last movie in which you had multiple locations to go to and could travel outside of the cities. I'd also love to be either a program or an iso.
Harry Potter should be up there. Huge world, different classes and professions, huge opportunity for it to be amazing. Every game has potential to be a failure so that can't be a reason not to make something like this.
A silly but perhaps interesting concept could be a "Men in Black" MMORPG as well. I can see it being light hearted OR realistic. (Light hearted as in wildstar graphics, or realistic as in GW2 graphics)
Also mentioned above was Ghost Busters, and I can EASILY see that as well.
I think nowadays, until the MMORPG breaks through any barriers of gameplay, I think it's all about theme and immersion into worlds nowadays when choosing an MMORPG for you. People want to feel engaged and involved in the world they are in, especially if they use it as an escape, so they choose the game that fits the mood. It's like music.. When you're angry, you choose the music that gets you through it. It's the same for games.

No thanks. I don't want the class I play (or even magic I use) to determine the gender of my character.
You really didnt read the books did you? Or quit like 3 books in?
You really don't understand what a game design group would focus on, do you?
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.

No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

It seems like Fallen Earth was a good try at a Mad Max sort of MMO and it went Free to Play. Still around, but most folks I played with left long ago. My list would include some of these..
StarGate Worlds - I was in Beta and it looked good, shame it went away.
Firefly/Serenity - Not a browser game but a real MMO
Dune - So much backstory and history.
Highlander - If Done with " Dark Age of Camelot type of PVP"
Babylon 5 - Perhaps some sort of Ground/Space mix, like old Star Wars Galaxies.
To the people who want a Vampire MMO there was one in the works called World of Darkness it was going to be created by CCP Games but was canceled last year.
"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"
Starship Troopers. I know it's a bit of a cliché, but I could see it work. It would probably have to be a 1 faction game human v bugs even though I guess you could let bugs be a faction.
Blade Runner. Not 100% sure about the factions. You could have a Bladerunner faction and a Replicant faction, but you also could have Bladerunners and defiant Replicants played by NPC and players living in the world helping either Replicants or Blade Runners.

Ghostbusters MMORPG:
Built in group content. Boss battles. Modern day setting. Scientist as a crafting class. Vehicles. Ghost pet system. The list goes on

a homeworld like Zeist!
(no, the Zeist expansion would drive away even the rabid Highlander fans)
The Aliens Universe might be a good one if you wanted something that was kind of gritty and has the accountant's appeal of EVE.
-Space Marines, Astro-Capitalists, and Explorers vs. Colonists, Xenomorphs, Predators, Actual Predators, and Engineers.
