Sure, if they completely change almost everything about it as well.

    • Didn't like the classes
    • Didn't like the combat
    • Didn't like telegraphs
I did however enjoy the art style and overall theme.

It might end up being a coin toss (literally) between this and ESO when I finally getting around to playing one of the two again.  Depending on the coin toss results I might do a best out of three.  image

Seeing how bad Wildstar has been selling lately I think it's safe to say F2P Model is Inevitable, B2P wouldn't save them for sure.

I'm not even sure F2P will at this point. If the Quarterly Report is any indicator they have only 60k Subs!

I remember back in the day when it was supposed to kill ESO. As we can see ESO gloriously picked up, while most of us pretty much forgot about Wildstar. I won't be playing it because it's really not good, they would need to shut the game down and revamp everything, all the way from Graphics to Combat.. And that will never happen.

For some weird reason this game gave me a splitting headache, and I'm not talking metaphorically.  Within two hours of playing this game I would start developing a massive headache that would require me going to bed for a good 8-10 hours.

I can play any other game in my library for multiple hours at a time without even the slightest hint of discomfort, but this game literally caused me physical pain.

As far as F2P being a barrier.  Not even slightly.  If I can't afford to sub a game, then I'm not living a lifestyle where I should be gaming in the first place.

Yikes! You have limited your gaming to a very small percent of the mmo genre! With the trend moving towards F2P and B2P, you may have to find a new form of entertainment.

Sorry to hear about your headches though. I remember a lot of people getting motion sickness when GW2 released, maybe you have a form of this. /shrug

Huh?  I never said that I don't play F2P games.  I just said that pay walls don't bother me.  I'm a working professional and I can afford a sub.  I currently sub multiple EVE online accounts, Planetside 2, WoT and up until recently Age of Conan.  Several of which are technically free to play, but I sub (premium.. whatever they call it) them anyways because the benefits of being subbed are good.

What I meant by that statement is that if I literally could not afford to pay a sub for a game, then maybe I should be reevaluating my life and taking a step back from gaming until I sorted my financial situation out.

Avoiding F2P games is impossible these days.  The only two games that have done F2P right are EVE and Wildstar, with their PLEX and CREDD systems.  If you want to play for free, then you have to directly pay another subscriber with in game currency who then pays your sub for you.  It's the fairest way.

As far as motion sickness goes, it would have to be a very rare form that only effects me while playing Wildstar.  I'm a highly certified SCUBA diver and I spend a good deal of time riding around in helicopters neither of which bother me in the least.

I think it may have had something to do with the Field of View combined with the "floatiness" of the game.

Nah. I tried it a while back.

    The problem: Art style.

I'm not kidding. I couldn't create a character that I felt satisfied with. Too goofy, & not in an interesting, satirical, ironic way. In that "hipster-who-tries-to-hard" kind of way.

When will they get it? It's not the sub fee that drives players away, it's the game itself. Make a good game & ppl will throw a fistful of dollars at it. Miss the mark & weasel out your profit with a shady monetary system.

    Oh well...

    This

If you didn't like it before nothing has changed. It was the most annoying game to play and look at to me.

They have a way of ripping a game right out from under your feet. I wish they would sell it to nearly any other publisher. The only NA publisher I like less is R2. Maybe Nexon will do us all a favor and swallow up NCSoft and fire their executives and managers.

While you make good points.  I would rather NCSoft run any mmo over PWE.

While WildStar was a brave attempt at old school WoW, it came too late to the party. Its fate is sealed.

You might be right.  But, then again I saw the same thing being said about SWTOR before it went F2P.  And again after it went F2P.  As far as I remember they are making good money off the MMO.  So, maybe there's hope?

What matters to me is my time. If I don't enjoy something it doesn't matter if it's free, I still won't do it.

If I enjoy something and it requires money then I'll pay the money.

I'm also not a fan of cooked carrots. Wouldn't eat them if they were free or otherwise...

This for me, minus the buying. I tried the beta and did not like the game at all. No reason ever to try it again.

Edit.  I am thinking this game will not make much over a year of FTP or BTP with NC Soft. Either it will be sold off or closed up. NC does not seem to like games that squeak by.  They would rather just close them up.

    Thanks for beta testing turkeys!!!

Beta testing? I call it playing and enjoying myself before I'm dead. You only get one chance in life to leave a mark on it, and I'll be damned if I'm going to get sloppy seconds on something important to me, even if it's a video game. So, if you think I was beta testing for you than that's up to you, I just call it living.

Not to mention, MMOs usually are the best at launch.  I don't mean being balanced and bug free.  But, this is the time where you will usually have the largest population in game.  More people willing to learn from mistakes because everyone is new.  Lower queue times because influx of new game/content locusts.  If the mmo has PVP servers, this is usually the most fun time while almost everyone is on equal grounds (leveling etc).

You might get a few high moments like a expansion launch or very large content patch people have been waiting for.  But, The mmo experience is usually never repeated.Especially if the game has been struggling like Wildstar.  That experience cannot be replaced.

This too, though not with that harsh view :) I don't mind the cartoony graphics for example. But I don't like some of its (wow-like) core mechanics.

If WS goes to f2p, I will put it on the same category I have for Rift. Rift is a nice game, but too wow-ish, so I left it, and after it went f2p I went back to examine the model, then left again. But I have it installed, and occasionally I log back for the things I like, Dimensions and theory-crafting on souls (though I not level a character for that, so it's just for the 'brain training' image)

WS is a nice game, but it can be pretty annoying. If it goes f2p, I'll definitely check back to examine their f2p model. After that, maybe I'll log back occasionally for the housing, and to finish Explorer. But to be honest, I don't see myself as actively / regularily playing WS...

Anyhow, it's a good news, it'd be sad to see Ncsoft pulling the plug on an another one, so go WS :)

Someone who works at Carbine (they provided a censored tax form as proof) confirms it's going f2p, not b2p, most likely in August.

I played during the open beta and found the combat boring so no for me.
  • LobotomistLobotomist Member EpicPosts: 5,981

    Yes

And yes, it will probably save the game and make it profitable ( like SWTOR )

The game is very much suited for F2P and was from very first day. In fact they intended to make it F2P but some greedy elements at NC thought they know better.

I expect this to be very smooth transition.

Not being able to scrape together enough money to pay for the sub fee was not the reason I quit playing this turd.

"Well, it's may not be good enough to pay a sub fee monthly, but surely it's good enough a game to play for free?"  No,  no it's not.

A new thing needs to be invented for this game - we could call it "Less Than Free to Play".  When you kill a boss in the game your cable bill gets discounted by 20 cents.  Mobs don't drop in-game loot,  instead they drop Burger King coupons.

Judging what others should or shouldnt do wouldnt be of your concern unless you d be the one with issues, or are willing to help - otherwise should keep that attitude to yourself, it is terrible.

Id not care if a game is F2P or Sub, but as F2P I maaaybe would log in once or twice again.

I just played the free trial and it actually was fun to some degree. Even though i thought that the dominion side 'felt' better (cant really tell why. Maybe because it was a bit darker) i mostly played exile because most people said that that was the crowded faction.

I didn't purchase a box/key because, well,  we all knew it was going to transition to a b2p/f2p model somewhere in the (near) future.  Besides i've got another ton of games to play when i can find the time.

but to answer the question, yes i think i would play if it went b2p/f2p.
