Perma Banned from LiF Steam Forums for this...

So i wanted to buy this game, then some guy on the forum said this... and i simply replied with well if you pretty much don't like this game then try this one instead and then BAM Perma banned, i know indie games can have corrupt devs but seriously banning someone for something as little as saying the name of another game on the forum? really?

http://i.cubeupload.com/BnkSGs.png

Here is a shot, as you can see reason for ban? nope it's blank... so they don't even have a reason to give me for the perma ban, now i'm going to stay away from this game like the plague after this and you guys should do the same, thinking they can get away with this is disgusting, to think i was going to buy the game that day to with a friend, regardless to say we BOTH did NOT buy the game.

Now they got away with banning me on the steam forums because they had all the mod power there to abuse like they did, lets see if it happens on MMORPG.com also or if this will be allowed to stay to show people what kind of devs they are.

I dont post on any steam forum for this very reason. It is beyond ridiculous.

Runescape used to have a rule about talk.mentioning other sites or video games. So you couldn't even really tell someone to get answers on a fansite. I think that prohibition has been lifted.

People talk about indie dev's like i should be impressed by them but half the games they make are complete crap and the other have are nuts like the guy from Fez.

Thats a bummer. If it makes you feel any better its not the first time I have heard of the heavy ban hand that certain developer wields. They seem determined to censor people in one way or another.

You essentially came to their forum and advertised another game. While I think it should have been a temp ban rather than perma, I don't have much sympathy otherwise.

It's not ridiculous it's advertising for another game in their own domain, have some common sense, would you like it if someone did that to your own property in yer domain? Sure the ban being permanent is harsh but it was a lawful reaction, yer literally telling someone to go look elsewhere in their own turf.

Yer selling apples and this customer comes around looking at yer apples and I come in front of your stall and tell yer customer, hey, go look at that other stall, you may get better apples. Chances are you will never welcome me to buy at yer stall ever again.

  • The only argument people give for them is i shouldn't have being talking about another game in their domain? i did not know this was illegal so to speak on a games forums? the amount of times me and many other people talk about other games on a games forums and never get banned, i used to talk about H1Z1 on DayZ forums, their devs never banned me, I talked about ESO on the LOTRO forums and never got banned, the only forums that seem to ban you for this are INDIE game forums but why? are they that scared that by me giving another guy an alternative their game sucks and everyone will not play it? nope but banning people in a Phill Fish attitude will.

If MMORPG.COM had direct sales for MMOs like steam, advertising competition could result in loss of revenue hence it would be bannable.

I've talked about other games on dozens of forums in the past and no one ever warned let alone ban me? but when it comes to a Russian indie dev they do? anyone getting WarZ flashbacks here? they also banned people for talking about other games, the only two i've ever seen and they were both Russian indie devs it seems.

Yes some forums have rules and policies about this, you better check this out next time you feel like doing that.

Just because you've gotten away with doing something in other places doesn't mean it is right. It's hard enough for some companies to make money as is in this industry. They don't need your help turning customers away or giving them alternatives.
  • The STEAM forums don't have no such rules from what i can see, they are on the steam forums not their own forums, i said my post on the steam LIF forums not the LIF.COM forums. they don't get their own special rules for their steam forum.

DID YOU LOOK at my screenshot? and what the guy posted? he clearly was not interested in the game so i gave him an alternative, don't give me the it's hard enough crap, the biggest way to drive your customers away is to treat them like crap.

And now this is why steam has suddenly just decided to give people 14 days to get refunds for game purchases if they simply don't like the game, because they treat people like crap and GOG.COM and EA Origin even gave people refunds if they did not like or couldn't get a game to work, not only did steam break European LAW but they gave no care for their customers.

If by me simply stating there is another game is enough to dive the masses from LIF to Gloria Victus then i must have more power than i though, maybe i'm a Jedi or a Sith and can Internet Mind Control people?

I once got temporarily banned by reporting bugs on steam forum for a game named Dex because i was saying spoilers without hiding them, from what i gather the game companies can apply their own rules on their steam forums.

No i'm pretty sure that's across every steam forum, you're not allowed to spoil any game without saying so...

Well i didn't read the steam policies so you might be right, in any cases i'm not sure you'll get much sympathy from anyone for trying to lure away people from a game in their own domain, and most certainly nobody will be able to do something about your ban, and this will certainly not prevent people from buying the game.

Hopefully people with standards and the right morals will see what they did as shamefull and wrong and will not buy their game, even if 1 person only see's their ways and refuses to buy their game then that's one soul saved, It's not sympathy i'm after it's Justice.

I must have read something different because the guy mentioned how great the game looked and had some questions about the mechanics of the game.  And without even trying to answer you just say there is another game and add a link.  I woulda banned you too; you added nothing to the conversation.

Justice is not as you perceive it, they see justice as removing someone actively working against their hard work, which is you.

Now what is the real justice in this?

And saving souls? Really? Yer making me laugh there, it's games we're talking about, not the 3rd world problems.

Look carefully at what you did.  A person wrote a post asking 3 questions, you didn't attempt to answer any of them, you simply posted a link to another competing game, of course they banned you.

Perhaps with a well thought out reply the person might have bought the game, but the world will never know.

I love the English language as much as the next guy, however, this is a classic case of superiority complex.

You didnt even attempt to answer any of his questions or discuss the game at all. You just immediately pointed him to another game.

And you wonder why they banned you??

I can not for the life of me understand how any of you defend the actions of this company(mods).  It is just so surreal, I thought free speech was also included on the internet. It was not advertisement in my opinion, and I am actually in a business class this summer learning this very thing.

Steam forums play by their own mod rules.  I've received bans for inappropriately and had them appealed.  Forums there are garbage.  Wear it as a badge of honor.

Yeah, I think this is the "right" of it.

@op: you aren't really looking at what you did and you keep repeating "I talked about games on other forums ..." so stop that. Great that you could do that but forum rules are different from one forum to another.

First off, I don't think you should have been banned. Not even a temp ban. A simple reminder (couch it in the language of "warning" if you want) is all that was needed.

Essentially someone in a "store" had questions and you didn't answer the questions you just referred them to another game. Those "forums" are more than just "forums", they are places where they are trying to sell their product.

Now, I have to repeat "again" that I don't think any ban was needed just a "hey man, just a reminder that these devs are trying to sell their game and it's always hard for indy devs so please don't suggest competitors in these forums" would have sufficed.

But, as Kyleran very wisely pointed out they banned you for a very specific reason that definitely has its own logic.
