The game should go "f2p"; lots of posters say it is the way for games to make money.

    Oh wait .....

  • BMBenderBMBender Member UncommonPosts: 827
Another bright, intelligent, researched, and well planned attempt by Turbine to create it's own personal reality that gets run over by reality itself.  The keystone cops could prob make better games.

Oh I very much agree... but more than likely the Suits at WB won't swing for this, Turbine's folks will. I said it then and I will say it  now... What  The $%^& does a Movie Conglomerate know  about MMOs?

imo... Nothing. It's like me buying WB and telling them how to make Movies.

Kinda sad when a top IP MOBA can't make a go of it.  Then again, DC fails at so much these days it doesn't surprise me that it bombed.

Can't really blame WB for much more than being naïve and believing Turbine  could deliver.  Turbine pitched this to WB not the other way round, Turbine managed the resources/personnel for it not WB, Turbine built it not WB.  All WB did was give em $ and say we have this neat IP can you guys do anything with it?  MOBA, can do? can not do?

    EDIT

Turbine isn't WB's only game division they are just the ones who said they could do it.  And WB fell hook line and sinker

I don't see what the hype is about these games, I mean it's just PVP right? Is it just because it's easy to get into and start fighting others off the bat? For my buck it's mmorpg PVP All the way especially with the actionish combat we r seeing now like tera, eso, neverwinter and others incoming. Deep customization, itemization and exploration... no comparison in my book, but hey different strokes and all that jazz I guess ;)

The way that Turbine going a game will be called Asherons Call 3 will come, but ends up a mess, on changing what people like in AC 1 or AC 2 to some form of new idea that people will hate.

Well that sucks, I searched everything online today to try and see if they were reimbursing anyone for purchases made during beta and they aren't.

That's the last time I ever give a penny to Turbine. Dawngate(EA) at least gave refunds.

Also kind of makes you wonder if them announcing this today was their way of giving the middle finger to HoTS because today was its release day and all I'm seeing online is news about IC closing and no HoTS stuff.

I refuse to give money to  <insert company here> because I bought  <insert company's product here>  used and enjoyed it for <insert length of time here> and now I cannot get a refund.

I'm right with you <insert quoted poster name here> lets boycott them together!

Sad but true indeed. Now WB kinda forces the IPs they have licenses for on Turbine, while both DDo and LotRo were doing just fine in their own way.

I understand what you're saying but Turbine made it seem like the game wasn't going to shut down anytime soon.

Dev posts said how they have great costumes coming for "x champ" and great things coming down the line.

Everything they said didn't point towards the game shutting down 6 months out of beta.

They even teased a few of the much anticipated champs like Deathstroke and I think Deadshot was next.

Anyway they said there will be refunds for past purchases, so detain the calamities that are your mammaries ladies.

League of legends (or Dota - so you wont get butthurt) is the new World of Warcraft

Everyone is trying to copy it, unrealizing theres no possible way to mitigate the success

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

why you got to let that beast out? It took 8 moderators last time to lock it back in...

MOBAs are the perfect bubble. Everyone knows it'll burst, nobody knows when.

    I love it.

I could see MOBAs going out of style in America, I really can't see them going out of style in Asia.

Man DC sure is always behind the 8-ball. I don't know but perhaps they should try to innovate instead of always playing catch up. They do it across all mediums. The only successful medium they have pursued so far has been television and that's only because marvel hasn't really started flexing its muscles quite yet. Although they are starting.

Yep, the shield-bearing carter agent, the daring devil... :) (plus a few more in production), they're spending a truckload of money on expanding the MCU onto the smaller screen as well lately.

"See the sad news in its entirety here" since I prefer Marvel over DC, and I don't even know which games I loathe more, the diablo clones or the dota clones :) so in normal circumstances, no sad news for me, the most I'd do is a /shrug, one more dota clone down the drain, who cares. What makes it sad, is the "Turbine's" part...

And not even the "if only WB spent all these resources and money on LotRO or DDO, or heck, even on AC" laments, that ship is gone already (though very much a true lament, the countless threads throughout the years about why the F they try to chase that bandwagon... dumb suits at WB, I bet none of them will get sacked after this fiasco).

Sure, IC drained lots of resources from Turbine in the last 2 years, leaving just a few coins on their other games. Sad news 1, IC's closure won't change that most likely. I highly doubt WB will put any more money into those games, since "they're doing fine with the limited budget too, just check the last 2 years".

Sad news 2, some cool folks were redirected to IC. Hopefully they won't get fired, and maybe even getting back their pre-IC places - but, highly unlikely. If they leave, that'd be really sad news.

Wow, I feel silly spending money on this game. Lesson learned for me. I'll be very wary of any games from Turbine from here on out.

EDIT: Wow, Steam gave me an instant refund...it took 5min. The hardest part was figuring out where to go in the app to request it!

  • jesadjesad Member UncommonPosts: 882

Sad to hear this.  Was a good game but I can tell you exactly what killed it.

    1. Too many rehashes of the same heroes instead of a steady stream of releases of new heroes.

    2. System requirements were too big.

I waited and waited for heroes from the B list to make it onto the scene but for some reason, maybe licensing, they just continued to make new versions of the same heroes that they already had.  It was rare that someone new would come out, and that was no good.

Also, at the time the game got released, we were playing LOL in my house on my I3, my wife's I7, and two Pentium D's.  Game wouldn't run on the Pentium D's, game didn't get played.

You would think that companies had figured this out by now.  Worst of all, for the requirements demanded, it was not particularly more advanced or prettier than LOL.  Which ran fine on all our machines.

Still, you can go to the forums on this very site and see how I tried to sell it.  I really wanted it to work, so its sad to see that they are giving up before the market level of machines could ever catch up.

they changed their policies on "refunds" a few days ago.

thought that's only for titles bought within the last 2 weeks, but as it seems, they are alot more "refundable" now in general :P

I bought the crisis elite pack back in March and still got a refund.
  • BruceYeeBruceYee Member EpicPosts: 2,556

Looks like there really is no refund for people who purchased founder's packs during beta.

    https://www.infinitecrisis.com/forums/showthread.php?21623-No-refunds-for-founders

    Sad.

MOBA never a big ship like MMORPG since the start.

That's why when the fools jump to MOBA ship , the ship start sinking .

MOBAs other than LOL and Dota 2 are doomed.

    This, pretty much.

If you go to twitch, which is probably the most reliable weathervane you can find for such things, you will have to look a hell of a long way down the list of popular channels before you find one that isn't running league of legends, or Dota2, the most popular Twitch channels are currently, LOL, Counterstrike, Ark; Survival evolved, Hearthstone, DOTA2, and Heroes of the Storm, when it comes to games like Smite, it has very few channels, with very low numbers involved, on Twitch its competiing with Run Escape and Kerbal Space program for viewersimage

Not saying Smite will be folding, but, its plain to see which MOBA's are currently popular, and which aren't. image
