Oh Turbine. Maybe now, that you're near the end, you'll realize that copying other people's ideas only works for Blizzard.
Turbine: Themeparks are hot now. Let's scrap Middle Earth Online and make LoTRO. It's like WoW with Legolas!
Turbine: MOBAs are hot now. Let's make one exactly like LoL, but with Super Heroes!
Stop it.
Blizzard does one things that the others fail to do: Take someone else's idea, Then make it better.
Pretty much this. All these other companies that copy, they often end up being worse than what they copied. Blizzard copies a few things but their games often feel like an improved version.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
They didnt do well becuase they didnt market well. Assuming the game plays just as good as a well made MOBA - all varaiables contstant in that regard, then its leaves to other issues such as marketing and making the game into an e-sport.
I know other mobas existed, but I never heard of this, and even now, I am not bothered to check it out.
Heroes of the storm at least looks pretty and is made by blizzard, so that has me interested to at least check out.
To be honest it's not as simple to make a "well made" MOBA and no the variables are not constant in that regard. MOBAs are not the same.
For example, DOTA which was the first one is completely different to LOL. They are not the same and there are a lot of variables which are different. Marketing and making it an esport are not the deciding factor. DOTA has different roles to LOL, it has different mechanics which don't even exist in LOL etc. The two games are vastly different.

This is bad news, I was just getting back into the game. It is true though, too many rehashes of same heros (nightmare batman, gaslight bat man etc). They are cool heros still, but it would have been way better to go with a really diverse selection of DC characters, and then introduce those rehashes later. Infinite crisis was the only moba I was currently playing after giving up on DOTA 2. Nearly 2000 hours wasted in DOTA 2, and never felt like I got anywhere. Infinite crisis I actually enjoyed playing. I hope they make another game with the DC IP, though it's probably unlikely considering there is Arkham Knight about to release and a DC MMO already out.

I can't wait for DOTA 2 to finally fall. That game gives carpal tunnel to even the most ADD of kids. Check "click counter" videos of DOTA 2 vs LoL. There's about half the amount of clicks in a LoL game vs. a DOTA 2 of equal time. That's a whole lot less micromanaging and damaging of your wrists and joints.
YOu will wait for a very long time. DOTA 2 will not bite the dust. It has a massive following and is teh second most played MOBA by a long shot. Also DOTA fans are extremely loyal and very few of them will go and play that abomination called LOL. Once you have played DOTA and started to appreciate the intricacies of the game, how can you go to a dumbed down version like LOL. My issue with LOL was not only that it was dumbed down, it was just not as fun. After two games of LOL, I just get bored and turn off the PC. With DOTA I never ever get bored. I can play it for hours on end and the only reason I stop after 1-2 game is because it will otherwise cnsume too much time.

I've played it off and on since it opened. It was good, just not good enough and definitely not different enough to warrant a spot in the moba world.
Smite - 3rd person
Dota2 - Hardcore of the hardcore
LoL - Dota that's been simplified enough to be accessible while still retaining some key aspects. Also has interesting heroes and is an established player in the field
HotS - Established lore characters from various genres in one game, highly polished (it's Blizzard), and they scrubbed away all the knowledge barriers of DotA and made a moba focused on quick action. Blizzard still understands that fun is fun and most people play games . . . to have fun.
Marvel Heroes isn't a MOBA it's an ARPG and those are generally consumed easily and I'm constantly surprised that the genre doesn't have more entrants.
If DC wants a MOBA they need to really think about what people see in super-hero comics. I'll tell you what it isn't - it's not people shooting a 10 dmg orb of pew pew at some other hero shooting a 10 dmg orb of pew pew back at them. Super-heroes fight crime (or cause crime in the case of villains), they need a call to action. Super-hero moba would have pop-up events where the "good team" (radiant) would try to save whatever needs saving, and the "bad guys" (dire) would attempt to thwart them. Fighting across a city trying to either increase crime or eliminate crime. Not shooting at towers during a laning phase. The map would have to be much bigger with lots of stuff happening and it should be a mix of RTS and MOBA. No one wants to play Green Arrow shooting a plinky arrow at a Goggle wearing Batman to zone him out from the creep wave.
Pretty much. TO be honest I thought that the only MOBAs which would survive long enough were LOL and DOTA. Probably HOTS too as Blizzard will never give on one of their games. All the other "MOBAS" to me come as disposable mobile games which you pplay for a bit and then delete.

MOBAs are the perfect bubble. Everyone knows it'll burst, nobody knows when.
I love it.
Bubble implies that it's a fad. Dota has been around for a very very long time (2001?). People are still not bored of it. Hell I know people who play DOTA since 2005 or even earlier and they only play DOTA and no other PC games and still play to this very day. It's very hard to argue that that's a fad.

MOBA's are a one-trick pony (LoL). A fad if you will. And like all fads, it too shall pass.
How exactly are they a one-trick pony? Why does everyone seem to think that LOL is the only successful game in the genre? Dota has millions of players and is very much profitable and has been around for a very very long time. It's not a fad. It's an awesome game which some people have been playing for more than a decade.
It feels like the vast majority of people on this website haven't really played MOBAs much because some of the comments being made come across as flat out ignorant. I wonder how many posters have played MOBAs only for a bit or never played them and pass judgement based on some random preconceptions they have.

Agreed, this game was perfectly named. Lots of crisis there.
Asherons call is really Turbines masterpiece and it offered something noone else could offer. Mobas on the other hand have been done better and the competition is harder as well.
We seen games that have evolved M59/EQ for many years, and we also seen a few cases of people building on UO. Neither seems to work that greatanymore, starting with AC and evolving it might actually be what the genre need (even though starting from scratch might be even better).

You are right, both LOL and Dota/Dota2 are giants and there re a few other games that would dwarf all MMOs beside possibly Wow in comparision.
But that doesn't mean that Turbine should focuson DOTAs, they have actually made 2 successful and good MMOs and a CORPG that done pretty well for itself as well. AC2 was a miss though, but Turbine is far better with doing MMOs and CORPGs than Mobas.
If they can't afford making a MMO then they should make a new CORPG, neither DDO or the original Guildwars were expensive to make and both have brought in a lot of money. They must also have picked up some tricks since DDO.
I would of course prefer them to make a MMORPG, but those tend to be very expensive. Trying a Moba was an interesting experiment that could have worked, plenty of money in it after all but it didn't work out so time to go back and do what they actually are good at.

I'm posting this simply to inform anyone who is interested in seeing proof of Turbine's dishonesty.
IC's community manager is blatantly lying about Dawngate to get people to stop asking for refunds.
Many posts have been deleted in the past week and users have been banned even when they didn't go against the ToS.
If you want to see the proof I mentioned above I suggest that you do so quickly because the thread below may be deleted very soon.
