It was stated a while back that MMORPG.com would be covering single player RPG games as well.

I have no idea how this offends people. RPG is at least in the name and many MMOs are spawned from original single player RPGs and other genres. Frankly it makes more sense to me than MOBA coverage.

Does this site still cover mmos? I have seen any less coverage nor do I want to see filler from asian mmos not even officially supported in NA. It would be a shame though is mmo coverage at some point  declines. Likely not seeing they would have to change their name. The site wanting expanded advertising dollars to keep it going is fine by me as long as things don't dramatically change.

    You stay sassy!

    Pretty much this.

And on top of that, why, they will review those same games they are paid to advertise! And help sell them through a click-through tab! How convenient!  :P

(And an absolute and complete conflict of interest, which is why it is impossible to give any weight to any official review or article at this site.)

Since the "MMO" part is no longer applicable and the "RP" part is obsolete too, that leaves us with "G".  Are we still talking about video games?  Are PnP games now open for discussion?  How about board games and card games?  How about other table games like billiards and ping pong?

I'm not interested in any other MMORPGs coming out on the horizon.  Hell, the one I'm playing now is likely to be my last.

Mostly I just come here and look at the trending threads and put my two cents in ones I find interesting/entertaining.

Well OP, there is a huge social media site called Facebook, and guess what?  It isn't a book of faces. Star Wars is a movie, but the stars aren't fighting each other! mmorpg.com probably has evolved a bit from it's beginning to where it is today. No biggy to me!

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

I've been checking this website for maybe 10 years now (of course not every day, or even every month) and while I have never posted on the forum in this time I always found the website helpful to stay up to date about mmorpgs. So essentially, I don't care about the forums, the community, streams, reviews etc. The list of games that are scheduled to release is the only thing that is important to me, and Im sure there's tons of others that are just like me. Now, of course it is up to mmorpg.com if they start to cover other niche-markets like Single-player RPGs, but again, does it really make sense to do that (other than advertisement money, which I suspect is the number 1 motivation for them)? Most people associate a website called mmorpg.com, with MMORPGs. So IMO the non-MMOs are just polluting the website, giving 90% of the visitors information they are not interested in, and even if they were interested in it, its something they didnt ask for because they were hoping to find MMOs on the website instead

This is like going to a shoe store to get a new pair of shoes, but when you get there you find out they also have a fridge for sale, because hey, you might be interested in that too?

The answer to this thread is $.  Nothing else.

That and the fact no one makes mmoRPGs any more at all.  They have to broaden their horizons.

The MMORPG destination is just a subject of the time it was created in. Game websites used to be able to specialise but fewer and fewer sites can sustain those models.

Strategy Informer broadened their content years ago and finally changed their name last year. The only real specialist sites anymore are hobbyist sites or PC focused sites because PC is such a broad market with so much variety.

There is no point to this site.

First of all, its the slowest site on the internet.

Secondly they destroyed the vibrant community of this site about a decade ago with reckless banning of some of the best posters on this site.  Back in the day there was a great community here, yeah some threads got out of control but there was a community here that would have stayed for the community.  That got destroyed, I was a victim of it.  I got banned for trolling then a mod realized that my roommate who shared computers with me at the time also had an account and it turned into a perma ban....like so many of this sites early years community If I wanted to participate in this sites community I had to agree with everything else a mod looks me up and sees I was permabanned years ago and would just perma ban my new account...

Years ago we complained about this sites inability to do what we all use to come here for.  To find new mmorpgs games that would have otherwise flown in under the radar.  It was great back in the day, I could come here find some new mmorpg under development, or launched in another region that I could play.

There are dead games here that have been here since 2005.  There is a hot mess of unsorted games when sorting by rankings that started to pile up around 10 years ago, and in that time no one in management has bothered to even click on their games listed here to see if it was inactive ect.

Then came the browser games, flooding the unsorted mess of games.  Then came non mmropgs.

So now if im interested in seeing what new mmorpgs might be on the horizon, ill have to click through 50 games on the slowest site in the internet to see if they are even mmorpgs.  99% of the forums are dead and abandoned so there is no community other than the top 10 games here, if even that, maybe top 5.  So its basically a guild wars 2 forum now.

In the end weve been asking for years that if they are to flood the game with stuff that is better searched, reviewed, and commented on via steam (talk about this sites desperate attempts to be relevant) then at least put them on another tab.

For all the moderation efforts they have put in for the longest time, no one has bothered to tend to the actual site, or realize the actual reason this website was so hot in the past, and realize why its no longer relevant beyond a few niche communities fighting eachother over which of their older mmorpgs is superior.

This was a fantastic site in its heyday for finding and discussing mmorpgs that were not found anywhere else, as well as the big games.  A tight community was formed.  This sites moderators wrecked the community long ago, which im sure was a major source of traffic and money.  Then they decided to flood the living daylights out of their site with any game they could find, making it impossible to even use the site for non community reasons.

So now we have mmorpg.com, with a few active game subforums, no ability to locate new and interesting mmorpgs unless its already popular, which...I don't need this site to know about those or discuss them...and its the slowest most ad packed, tracking pack, malware packed site ive seen on the internet, so rule out click through a few hundred unsorted games that are never commented on and some don't even have a forum to comment on....no one at mmorpg.com would know, they only care about banning as many community members as they can.

Anyway, just my thoughts, as someone whos been here since like 2003 but have not had a need for the sites current set up in the past 4 or 5 years.

Had some great memories here. but this site is nothing more than a moderators power trip, holds no value regarding gaming anymore since its all junked up with spam games, and its community is nothing compared to what it once was....so theres not a lot of reasons to come here unless you want to defend GW2 and fight TSW players over whos irrelevant game is better.

And yes I know mmorpgs are on the decline as a whole, and that wouldn't have mattered regarding this site if the site had its community who would have been fine with coming here daily to talk about the one or two games on the horizon.  That's why you moderate when needed and keep the community.  This site would have been as popular as it once was if 90% of its active community wasn't banned and pushed away and to other sites and places to comment about mmorpgs.

Exactly.  Change the domain name at least since this site long ago changed focus.

If this is truly the case then you have no argument. The "Top voted games" list is just mmorpg's. The only coverage of non-mmo's on this site is articles and stuff on the forums and like you said, you don't care about those.

Found a lot of interesting insights & games already

And the people who get angry over other games being posted here are funny

I visited this side very regulary for many years, to get news about MMOs and I mostly used the list to see new upcomming MMOs or new betas.

Now I veeery rarly visit this side anymore. I just get information for many non MMO games that I dotn care, or that I get my information from another place. When I want news for Fallout 4, I dont come here. I still use the gamelist, but its so annoying, that the MMO list is full of games that are no MMOs, just to get more ads, money and traffic. I'm going to switch to other MMO lists, that really list MMOs or at least for a filter option to filter out non-MMOs of their list. Something that MMORPG still didnt manage to do.

I think, in the end, its always about money and popularity.

Word. A lot of them also seem to be under the impression either that the forum crowd is their sole audience or that the forum crowd is remotely representative of the interests of the site's visitors.

It's just hilarious to me that on a slow day, beaten to death topics like this pop up, then every Tom, Dick and Harry commences to bitch about the site we do nothing but complain on. . There's an easy solution to any problem you have with this site.

Yeah but there is some validity to complaints.

You can't improve if yes men tell you everything is fine.

You can't improve if people just leave when they don't like something without telling you what they didn't like - they may still leave but giving you feedback is better than guessing why when you are on the other side.

Here's the way I think of it usually - if someone ATTEMPTS to give a solution or identify problems I can see too, that's constructive criticism. If someone groans without any attempt at a solution or even identifying the problem, that's just a review and largely going to be opinion so if people don't agree, their opinion may not be bulky enough to have an effect. But you have to throw your opinion out there to see how many others think the same way. It may even be flat out trolling but who can tell - as you mention - so many seem to come here just for forum PVP.

It's like their own rules for blasting a game you don't like.

You can tear a game to shreds if you offer evidence and/or solutions but if you come in and say - this game sucks - that's low quality so they delete your post. The person who complains knows they should have used more words instead of being generic.  Still afterward some people don't get it and say - oooo you can't post bad stuff about xyz or they delete it - no, they deleted your post because it didn't offer any real information, just a generic rant.

Here is someone using their words and people don't like that either. If it's not deleted yet there may be some feedback being gleaned from it. That's what I see going on.

Sure there is validity to some complaints, I didn't say otherwise, my point was that when there's nothing to complain about, this is usually the end result, people start complaining about MMORPG.com. That just shows to me many are here for that sole purpose. IF it's not  a game they're complaining about, they complain about a poster sharing a concern or something they may be excited about, if there's no real hot topic in those categories, it moves to what ever else they can find. Like I said I just find that funny not to mention telling on who to ignore.

I don't see the need for bashing this website. Most of the recent mmos are talked about and easy to access info here. As for older games the gamelist here isn't great so you're better going elsewhere.

This is Bill's website and he can do whatever he wants however his rationale on mmorpg makes sense. I've been playing online for years, started out playing rpgs before branching to mmos and other genres. I don't see the harm in covering other games. If it keeps the site alive so be it. (RIP massively). It doesnt take you very long to find out if the game is an mmo or not.

News about pillars of eternity great, news about sword coast legends awesome. Loved watching all of the Witcher 3 cutscenes

Complaints about this site being the laggiest in the world. I dunno what connection you seem to have but I've only had problems with this site a few times and other times theres some delay, no biggie. But then i'm only a casual user to this site over the years. I don't see the need to check everyday when this site  give updated news of games in development.

Comparing a shoe and a fridge is hilarious.

If you don't like it go elsewhere.
