Skyforge: Open Beta Begins, New Collector's Editions Revealed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

For those who have been curious about Skyforge, now is the time to jump in with the start of open beta today. Anyone logging in between July 16th and 23rd will receive a special costume that will be awarded after the first week of OBT. Founder's Packs are no longer for sale, but players can get their hands on the new Collector's Edition that comes with a host of in-game perks.

These Collectors Editions come in two variations – Starter Pack and Wardens of the Wasteland. The Starter Pack provides players with 6000 Argents, 30 days of Premium, an exclusive Aelion Defender portal title, and a chest full of items to assist players as they start their journey on Aelion. The Wardens of the Wasteland edition brings with it larger quantities of the rewards found within the Starter Kit, along withinstant access to the Alchemist & Knight Classes, an exclusive Night Squad Costume, a permanent Moah mount, and the Warden of the Wasteland portal title! A full breakdown of each pack’s rewards can be seen on the Collector’s Edition page.

Returning players will find their characters as they were when CBT ended and all that is required is downloading the latest patch to get going again.

Agreed and it is so calling my name! <sigh>

The higher founder's pack had 40,000 Argents though, this one has half that.

(It would cost $25 to buy the extra 20,000 Argents)

I think i have mentioned this a few times,CASH SHOP games can NEVER be trusted, there is always going to be a bigger better buy down the road to keep you spending.

I am just thankful no player wipes,i would have been pissed losing all 2 hours i had in :P

Originally i thought it can';t be that bad ,the packs were ok priced ,but after playing the game,it is not worth anymore than 100% free and even then i would not play anymore because it is boring as heck.

You are forgetting the bag slots and threads  they are being sneaky but the cost of the bags and threads cuts that difference greatly especially avoiding the %5 transaction fee.

I haven't compared them in detail, but the founder's pack does give a lot of extras in the three capsules. But providing two classes and the bag and so on they've obviously made it so that founders will want the collector's pack as well, as it doesn't replicate things.

If I would have researched this game more, and find out before buying the founder that it was a lobby game I would have waited till today to play it. I thought it was an open world game. Its a decent game but after a while it gets boring.

I have the top tier founders park and glad I did but you can unlock the other classes for free.

    EDIT: 59.99 deal looks awesome =- )

Yes, the founder's packs and the CE stack nicely. Also the starter pack is a completely separate thing and also stacks with either or both and can be gotten multiple times. It is only slightly more expensive than buying 30 days of premium more directly.

And with the $60 CE, well it has been a long time since I have seen a game with a $60 CE in general and I don't think I have ever seen a CE from another game with more than 30 days of sub let alone 60 days and enough cash shop credit to get another 60 days.

While it is definitely a central hub game it is so more in the Neverwinter Online sense. There are open shared zones and those zones get really very big.

Most of the game is instanced but everything is 100% teamable. There are large open world maps but thats not the focus of the game. Still worth the time to check out for free if you wana invest in the game. Get to 2k prestige and you will know if you will like it.

It might be worth it to unlock the Alchemist and Knight... mainly the latter. Knight is awesome.

I want to play the monk or necro though. but hey, free class unlocks still pretty good.

Played the game for a couple of hours, is it really just Streets of Rage meets diablo?  It looks kind of pretty but all I got was button spamming instanced rubbish.   Too early for me to really knock it, but does it open up more?  Or is it just a world of small instances and button mashing?

I've been playing the last week (3K-ish paladin) and have really enjoyed the game. Combat is fun (not quite as active as Tera) but is definitely not just button mashing. I've found the boss fights (done all the instances solo so far) force you to pay REAL attention to the mechanics. These are not tank-n-spank fights ... especially solo :)

I bought the low-end founder pack and a few extra argents (to get the free mount) and am very happy with the purchase.

Just a few hours away from having Slayer unlocked ... very excited to see how that class plays based on the Training Room.

Might just be my preconceptions (I still really like the holy trinity style of grouping).  As a healer at heart I have struggled with recent MMO's like GW2 etc.  Still, as I said, too early to judge.   Will give it a few more hours before I decide if it works for me.

Great way to dick over founders pack owners.... Now we get to spend ANOTHER $50? Founders should have just been given a free class unlock token or something so we could have picked what we wanted. At least then it would have been worth more. This Collectors Edition pack has way better items. They could have at least given us a heads up...

Just a warning and I posted this as well in their Bug forum, Panda AV is pointing me to this URL: http://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/security-info/82046/information/Exploit.gen After downloading the Skyforge installer.

More than likely a false positive based on heuristics.

They have turned separating players from their money into an art form.

This marketing tactic is sleazy.  They drop a CE package after people already bought a Founder's pack.  The CE's were already planned months ago too, so this was intentional to gouge Founders.  Treating your Founders like trash isn't a good thing.

Got a founders pack for free played 3 or 4 hours. Done with game way to boring and wonky as hell voice over is complete crap, cant see how people can play this weird clunky crap. What is so special about this game that people keep playing?

Yea, getting a Destiny vibe from it.  It seems like a good game, but the way its presented is not my cup of tea.  Little disappointed by that.
