[Column] Elder Scrolls Online: Imperial City - The Most Anticipated ESO Patch Yet

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Imperial City: it has to be the most anticipated feature that Zenimax has discussed since pre-launch and we're finally getting some information about it. The Imperial City is slated to launch August 31st for PC/MAC, September 15th for Xbox One and September 16th for the Playstation 4. It will also be going live on the Private Test Servers later this month so you will be able to test out this update for FREE before it goes on the live servers. Casual Reminder: The PTS is for testing the patch, expect it to have bugs, glitches, crashes, NEVER judge an update by your experience on the PTS.

As long as they keep the VR system it doesnt matter what they add. Well thats my POV.

The PvP content sounds like a recipe for faction stacking.

You need to control a city district to have access to the vendors? Well, do I play with the underdogs who can barely hold their own against the hordes and have access to the vendors a tiny fraction of the time, or do I run with the horde, just steamroll everything, and have vendor access pretty much whenever I please?

If you get it with the eso plus membership, you are essentially renting the dlc every month. If you cancel your membership you lose the dlc. You are much better off buying it, unless you don't ever plan on canceling your sub.

People don't just subs to get access to the DLC and subbing gives you crowns with which you can buy the DLC. It is actually a better bargain to sub for a month than buy 1500 crowns all by their own.

I know there will be plenty of people who will say this is the best ever, but I see a recipe for disaster in this patch.

Darkness Falls, redux. My prayers are finally answered!

They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair.
Played: UO, DAoC, AC, WoW, EVE, TR, WAR, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, GW2, TSW, ESO, Elite:D

Um most anticipated feature ha-ha . yeah this guy doesn't even play the game. That is def not the most asked for feature, or anticipated. That would be the thieves guild and dark brotherhood followed by them fixing the vr system, and finally adding the rest of the justice system like they said. The only people who would even remotely find this interesting is large zerg guilds.which is why I would never pvp in ESO. They should of took Albion online idea about what pvp is, and not zerg ideas that only a select few like.

I personally haven't seen any one even talk about it. If it was the most anticipated you would think I would of found out about it before coming here. It looks to me like a bad cash grab to get insane pvpers who worship min maxing, to pay more money.

The people who make these patches can't even figure out how to make justice system pvp, which isn't that hard. You want them to figure out how to make a fair realm vs realm game ha-ha. Good luck with that one. These fools don't even try to balance the game the way it is, before adding a bunch more over powered equipment. If the same boring tactic to grab cash as the free too play games target. Get people that think they need the best equipment, and make sure you charge for it. It's just a sly way of doing it. They mise well just start adding the over powered armor to the cash shop, it would be more fair. Even a idiot could figure out that this is a failure. It promotes zerging of the worst kind. I honestly hope it brakes the games since the mentally retarded fools are catering to the small pvp crowd instead of elder scrolls fans.

Any of us who were there in DAoC when DF first went in have been waiting of this addition for a very long time indeed. A big part of my excitement to play this game for months before launch was based on their announcement that there would be a DF-like dungeon in Cyrodiil... finally.

it's funny watching all the PVErs fretting... not even aware that this is the gateway drug that will seduce them into trying some PVP... and that much to their surprise some will enjoy it.

Yep. I've never PvP'd in ESO but I enjoyed DF for the longest time.

As a DAoC Veteran.... How, exactly, is this Darkness Falls?

We already have public PVP dungeons in Cyrodiil.  What we were missing was a DF-like dungeon where only the Alliance with emperor-hood could go, while they had control.  And then, anyone left in that dungeon when the crown was usurped, would be able to remain in there until they died (at which point you can not get back inside.)  That was the core mechanic of DF and the ONLY thing that set it apart from your standard, run of the mill pvp dungeons.

This is no Darkness Falls.  Just a bigger PvP Dungeon.  Not at all what they promised.  They promised meaning behind the campaigns, meaning for players and guilds that weren't able to capture territory.

    They lied.

Cyrodiil has a few delves but nothing like the scale of the IC sewers and city proper. For one thing siege weapons can be used there and not in the delves. For another thing it has a token system used to buy unique set weapons and armors just like the DF system.

As far as right to enter, they're going to be testing several options when it goes in the PTS later this month... from the ones that allow anyone to enter any time to one that requires owning the majority of keeps... your emperoroship requirement is something I've never heard of in previous talk about plans...

As to lies... lol. Do you people always saying this kind of shit even know the difference between making plans, changing plans, making one decision and changing your mind from a real lie?

Do you even know that every intelligent human being on the planet  tunes you out once you start saying "they lied" when no such thing happened?

    A.  Sure, majority keeps, emperorhood, whatever.  Doesn't really make a difference aside from the number of keeps you'd need.  Point is -- one alliance at a time.

    B.  The article says nothing about them testing methods of entry.  It just said everyone has access to it.  So either the article is incorrect, or this rumour you heard is incorrect.

    C.  It wouldn't be the first thing TESO has lied about, and I couldn't give two shits if you're fanboy enough to inhale their farts with a smile on your face.

In case anyone doesn’t understand what Darkness Falls is, the easiest way to describe it to people is a single PvE space that only one alliance has access to at a time... "

If there's no barrier limiting it to one alliance at a time, then yes, they fucking lied.  Good day.

    Brian Wheeler:

On PTS we will be testing access the following access rules and deciding if certain campaigns have different Access rules or be universal across all Campaigns:

    • Everyone has Access
    • Access granted by owning your native 6 keeps
    • Access granted by owning your native 6 keeps + 1 enemy keep
    • Access granted by owning the majority of keeps

For clarification, "Access" means the doors in Cyrodiil around Lake Rumare (non slaughterfish side) that let you into the Sewers/City will let you click on them to go into the Sewers/City or not. These entrances will also be highlighted on your Cyrodiil map.

Oh look content promised to us for free 6+ months ago yippy! As a hardcore pvper who has played this game since years before launch, I've seen just how incapable ZOS has proven to be at developing this game. This content is being added to a zone of the game that has seen not a single improvement since launch. It now has 10-20x the lag as it did at launch, with 1/3 or less of the same campaign populations, pvp features removed 9+ months ago to never be re-implemented (forward camps), and not a single addition of content since launch.

All this will be is a farming location for "buff campaigns" and another example to all those who return to the game(Just as those who returned in 1.6 and left soon after, evident by huge increase then decline in pvp population), just how bad a state this game really is in pvp wise. I'll play it a couple of months just for the increased pvp populations, but after that I don't see myself ever picking up this product again.

Well it wasnt actually talked about being free since it was talked about when there was a sub requirement. In that regard nothing really changes.. Sub and get it like you would have without the b2p switch or just purchase it. Having said that I think I have mentioned that I thought this DLC should be free to anyone that had an account and paid a sub prior to the transition to b2p. I think that would be fair IMO.

That aside I am not sure if I want access blocked by owning keeps. I am sure the IC couldnt handle a large amount of players without it being pure chaos so allowing everyone access at the same time is probably not the best way ( though I would prefer it.. Just make copies as the IC fills up with players ) and that may empty out PvP in Cyrodil. Owning 6 Home Keeps or 6 Home Keeps + 1 Enemy Keep would still allow for 2 factions to have access wouldnt it? ( I dont PvP that much so I dont know haha ) In the end I just dont want to see 1 faction dominating IC access.

What could be done? Maybe a rotating access timer that rolls to each faction? Probably wouldnt work since players would just wait for their turn then run in without actually being in Cyrodil.

Or possibly a " point " meter that tracks PvP goings on for each faction and once a faction reaches a certain point value they gain access. The other 2 factions keep their gained points and continue forward to getting access for their faction. All 3 factions could potentially be in IC at the same time ( no point meter points gained within the IC - Only outside ) and after a certain amount of time access resets and each faction must work toward it again. With this even the underdog will gain access and not be very limited.. Probably wouldnt work either.

Sorry Zenimax. You back-burnered PC/PVP players to develop your console product. You are on the permaban list with EA, Trion, et. al.

Too bad too since I was a huge DAOC player back in the day. These huge gaming companies simply don't care about their players.

I hope Skyforge will hold me over until Camelot Unchanied releases. 2017 can't get here soon enough.

This DLC has got me motivated to play an MMO again.

    Loved Champion Spawns in UO

Loved Seiges and Raid Bosses in Lineage2

Loved Darkfall while it had population

Going to love IC stonefest :)

Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe

First time in many a year I have actually been excited about a patch that is actually offering something new and interesting rather than just you new zone + new gear drudgery :)

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

  • uidLuc1duidLuc1d Member UncommonPosts: 194

So basically the patch is PvP gated content... which is fine, I mean I won't participate in a constant gank fest, but at least it will give the "hardcore" PvPers something new to bitch about.

Hardly what the majority of the players consider "the most anticipated" though.

  • BladestromBladestrom Member UncommonPosts: 5,001
As far as I'm aware from the eso forums this has been the most anticipated and talked about feature, pvp has not had content for a while and since the core end game is wvw pvp (^^?) it makes perfect sense.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Comparing Zenimax with EA is a odd thing to do, they do not have a trackrecord that bad.

Zenimax is ... Not so smart when it comes to their new B2P/P2P system but they do a decent job running the game. that they dont give in to demands of the vocal minority is only a good thing in my book.

Not to mention the childish nonsense above. Did zenimax 'Backburn' console players by releasing to pc first? 'Im no playing because you annoyed me' really?
