you are trying to figure out why a game from 2012 could be a bad thing vs that same game being from 2015? umm visuals & graphics man.  if graphics and visuals weren't important, we would all still be playing muds, UO, DAOC, and EQ...(ok great I get some of you might still play those games, but this game's graphics and visuals are not groundbreaking, but I guess you could have argued that 3 years ago, but not now!)  Enough with the pedantics, yes a game can be fun if its 3 years, 5 years, 8 years old etc.

BUT the point is, many American gamers wont want to play a game with dated visuals.  Many American gamers like up to date visuals, then over the course of 3 years or 5 years grow attached to the game as its graphics get surpassed by new games.  Well, right off the bat this game is already behind is the point im trying to make.

We can argue up and down, but fact:  this game is already 3 years old and its just being released in the U.S.   we can debate all day about how many people care or worry about that and to what extent, but it will be a big impact on its success in the U.S.  If you argue that visuals and graphics don't make a big impact on an MMO's success in the U.S. market, well now you are just playing devil's advocate.

7 million WoW players wave hello to you.

BTW, it is my honor to meet you, the spokesperson for "many Americans."

EDIT: Ok I read in an article, this game is from 3 years ago. Great, we can play a game from 2012......

everyone knows the game is old in Korea already. That doesnt mean we westerners have to reject it if it comes here. WoW is 10 years old and still the most played mmorpg in the west. A 3 year old mmo coming fresh to US/EU is OK if the game is good. I played the Russian version and although IMO its not worth a sub, its definitely worth playing at least for some time.

Don't be fooled by this site and its hate for Eastern mmo's. Their are more people playing these game and they don't post on this site. I know a lot of mmo players that are getting sick of the games made here. The game companies here are losing because they are trying to cater to everyone and making a mess of whatever game they are pushing. Eastern mmo's are becoming popular because of the mistakes U.S. game companies keep making over and over. And believe it or not most people don't want to pay a sub.anymore. People here can debate it all they want but its true. U.S. game companies know this to. So they offer f2p options with restrictions and they really thought that would work. I think the Eastern market is going to take over this genre soon.

Oh, I think there are plenty of people on this site who love Eastern mmo's. It's just a mix and that's how it should be.

No reason why everyone should be enamored of the same things.

In any case, there are a lot of eastern mmo lovers (myself included) on this site. And while I don't love everything about them (such as the rampant use of anachronistic props/items) I might go as far as to say I prefer eastern mmo's.

Well, until a Western company gives me what I thought mmo's were supposed to be. "A world".

Still crossing my fingers on that one.

I'm with you.  It is obvious that a vast majority of gamers love Eastern MMOs by the popularity of many Eastern MMOs in the West.  As is usually the case, however, we only hear the criticisms of the vocal unsatisfied minority who hate eastern MMOs.  The satisfied masses are usually content and therefore feel no need to whine and criticize.

For a second there, you had me, honestly

But your probably right, it will probably do just as well as all those other Eastern MMO's.image

A 3 year old game from Korea is probably still going to be better that the current gen AAA shite they are crapping out in NA. It would appear a combination of too high of pay and too much coke at the office does not make for a good product.

The visuals on this game are far from dated after 3 years. The game still looks really good form playing it on the Russian server. Just because a game is 3 years old doesn't mean it will be bad or dated by any means. The game is still fun to play and has a good story. If you aren't a fan of Eastern style mmos then you more than likely will not like this game. I'd probably compare the graphics in this game to ESO or any of the new mmos that have come out lately.

you want up to date graphics then shut it and go play a system game on xboxone or ps4 even wows graphics are worse then blade and souls and that games been around more then 11 years sorry but graphics mean nothing to most gamers its the amount of content they can play the updates they can enjoy the diffrent types of pvp and pve content mean the most to almost every gamer otherwise dcuo would allready be dead same with wow and startrek online

Everyone here is in the honeymoon phase with this game they havent even played, hence the love-in/love-fest we are seeing.  I'll be eager to here how you guys feel in 2 years, when this game 5 years old.  I made the point already, not all American gamers care about graphics but many do.  And yes, I can be a spokesperson for many, because many can mean 5%, 15%, 20 people, 100 people, so yeah i can make that assumption.  If I make the statement, many Americans care about graphics, please prove me wrong.  Otherwise 100% of us would be playing muds and atari.  Some people might like muds and atari but not all of us. I know people love to play devil's advocate on forums and argue for the sake of arguement even in the face of such facts as time and years and dates so go ahead and go bonkers as normal guys.

The reason why people still play WoW even though its graphics are dated is because they got hooked early on in its life cycle.

This game is 3 years into its life cycle, so i'm making the point that, its going to be harder to hook people in this part of its life cycle than it would have been 3 years ago.  I know people love to disagree on forums, so have it but, if you were a game owner, are you telling me you would rather release your game with graphics from today or from 3 years ago? go ahead and play devil's advocate if you want but i'd rather you shut up and just use common sense.

So i would love to see reviews from everyone here in 3 years, when they are playing a six year old game, with six year old graphics.  Again i'm going to give this game a try, but lets keep our success expectations low, somewhere around, oh I dunno Age of Wushu and NOT at Aion.  I think the game will be fun and have its 3-6 month burst of new players wanting to try it out, but again, lets assume this game will be Age of Wushu successful and not extreme success.  Again someone mentioned, this game will do as well as most asian mmo's do in the u.s. and I think thats a safe bet as well.

But again, 3 year old graphics, go bonkers all you want with that statement, but its the truth.

Ok, you said graphics mean nothing to most gamers.  Most means 51% of gamers everywhere.  And graphics mean nothing means, they care about graphics 0%.  wow a strong statement that is clearly wrong.  51% of all gamers care 0% about how their game looks.  This is absolutely ridiculous.  get out of here.  seriously, stop posting.

edit: i noticed this was your only 12th post so welcome aboard.  I see you will fit in on these forums where people make statements that dont use any logic and love to play devil's advocate and avoid the most obvious facts.

Most games are 4-5 years old when they launch (development time) so whats they point here? its may be 3 year out in korea right now but the graphics and art style are still awesome.

    Cant wait for B&S.

Not everyone play games for the graphics, some play for the story and/or gameplay.

If it were me, Resident evil 4 (PS2) graphics are high enough. Anything higher is just a bonus or overkill that takes so much resources out of games that makes it shallow in other aspects (Look at how games length has gone down the moment graphics kept on being the focus).

While i agree that gameplay needs to be a bigger focus than graphics, we would not have any reason to pay a lot of money for gaming PCs if they looked old, no matter how smooth the performance is. Outside of PC specific mmos like WoW and GW2, the only second reason i care about PC gaming is because they can run much better looking games than my console and be able to run it smoother (the only valid reason to pay more for a gaming PC).

    My opinion, of course.

Well I agree too that graphics are nice to have. All I'm saying is, I'm surely not going to complain if we get a new game that doesn't have amazing graphics till the gameplay is fun.

See some recent single player games released, one of the biggest culprits I can remember is Ryse: Son of Rome. That game's graphics a very very good but the game is shallow AND most importantly very short.

That is my biggest gripe nowadays with games. All those graphics take a lot of time and resources to make which in return makes us have a huge amount of games that last around 14 hours or less...

This is an mmorpg however so that statement has nothing to do with this. (Well In some way it does but not to the same level)

True. Another example is The Order 1886 imo, but i do believe it is possible they can push PC hardware far enough to make great looking games with great gameplay and performance with current technology. Unfortunately, now that 4K is coming they have less reasons to focus on performance and gameplay and just go full on eye candy graphics. These are dark times.

Current tech is good enough to combine all those together but they rather not do it, knowing that a lot of people only care about eye candy so they take the easy way out to make a quick buck. Thats sad. Since only PC gamers lose for paying for expensive gaming rigs and get good looking garbage.

I don't think your "old game/ old graphics" argument holds much weight, understanding that a games "graphics" are only limited by the engine it's designed on, the Unreal 3 engine is hardly out of date yet, since Unreal 4 launched not long ago and there still aren't any mmos in the US using it yet.

Fact is you are talking about visual aesthetics, not how capable the engine is. The games engine is capable of all the same things most "new" mmos are, it only differs in visual art, the art may not appeal to your individual tastes, but to say they lack anything compared to any other mmos released, or currently in development is just false at best. Cry engine 3 which is what Star Citizen is going with, may offer a bit more than unreal 3/4 but it's harder to work with.

Basically until newer engines come out and the games get developed on them, which usually takes 3-5 years, there really won't be much better out there. Sure you can wait for Black desert which uses it's own engine, but that's still quite a wait compared to Blade and Soul.  That being said most of the anticipated mmo titles coming out in 2016 like Camelot Unchained, or Crowfall won't really have any better graphics than blade and soul as they are being designed on their own engines also. So you could be waiting till 2017 for something with "better graphics" than B&S, assuming you aren't interested in Black Desert.

Edit for TLDR; Games don't just magically have better "grahpics" because of their release date, it all depends on the quality of the team working on it, and the choice of engine, whether it be Proprietary, or Unreal/CryEngine.

If you are looking for a brand new game that's fresh out of development, then play on the server that it was first released on. Just like how many people are now playing Black Desert on the Korean server. It takes a little effort to get in but if you want to be at the cutting edge of game releases, you gotta work for it, don't just sit there and wait for it to for served to you on a silver platter.

Games like Tera that are even older look better than some US games released even now. The graphics of Blade and Soul IMO are quite good . I am quite happy to play it.  I wonder how long many of the games released in the US take to make it available in Korean in Korea. Perhaps we should remember that this game is in Korean after all and if you sincerely wanted to play this before you should have played it there then as someone suggested.

been there done that, even with a vpn you still only get like 300 - 3000 ping.  played games from the u.s. pinging to asia and vice versa.  playing with sweet 80-100 ping, there is nothing like it heheh.

The game may be 3 years old but the way I see it thats 3 years worth of content coming out back to back. I am playing on the Russian Private server and it still holds up to when I played the KR one 2 years ago. The combat is still very orginal I have yet to see anything as skill based as this. Its not like tera with just dodge but full blown counter attacks. The more you understand your class and your enemy the better you will do. The graphics are of renowned artist Hyung-Tae Kim so the style is gorgous even compaired to more up to date games. The graphics are more like moving paintings IMO. so 3 years old? I say three years Matured. And I cant wait for it.,

Have MMOs really changed that much in 3 years? no, not really and if they have blade and soul still has most of the features a newly released MMO should have in 2016.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile
