Originally posted by Misti Hmm, think this question was just in another thread. Approximate numbers below. Lineage 4,000,000 active accounts (not Lineage II which is brand new and only in Korea right now) Everquest 500,000 DAoC 200,000 SWG 200,000 UO 100,000
Well seeing how approximate means almost exact or even correct... those numers are not approximate, and 4,000,000 ppl playing lineage, im betting more then 90% of them are korean, and ive never liked any korean games to date, though lineage II looks to change that
Those are indeed approximate numbers as released by the companies that produce them. With a constantly changing player base and subscriber information not released daily they are not however exact.
Lineage's player base is mostly Korean. The NA release for Lineage came later, was outdated and did poorly in the U.S. however it does have the largest number of subscribers as the original poster of this thread asked.
I agree that Lineage II looks amazing and cant wait to play.
More than four million people subscribed to Lineage. "Worldwide, we're pushing four million subscribers to Lineage," says Garriott. "In Korea, there are about 2.5 million. The other 1.5 million are mostly in Taiwan, with a few in a handful of other Asian countries." - http://www.gamespy.com/amdmmog/week1/index3.shtml

I had asked the same question and was also wondering which game has had the most players on one single "shard". I am asking because I hear the EVE Online is trying to get 10,0000 simultaneous players on one shard. I was wondering if that is a record.

10,0000 = 100K or 10K
As I said the last time you asked, compains do not release this type of information. They do not want people to know what the load capacity is for the severs (and wisely so).
And to that I ask: What difference does it make?
If you have 200K users on 1 sever bank or 20. Does it make a difference to anything? It's all a issue of how companies have set up there internal networks. Having the most people on single bank, means very little to nothing. Either way I'm sure Lineage has probably cramed the most accounts with lowest number of severs.

well , since lineage2 had that record breaking release in korea last month, with 130,000 accounts in the first 5 days(read the lineage2 news called Jackpot on this very site) , they are at least number 5, im pretty sure they are past swg and daoc by now as well.
Yeah I read that too Fulmanfu, its exciting cause I think Lineage II is going to be a phenominal game. It had an amazing number of subscribers for its start though I haven not read anything that says it has more then DAOC or SWG yet so I was just posting what has been released. Your right though, I forgot about that articles numbers surpassing UO so it should have been listed above that.
I think its very likely Lineage II will quickly capture the number one spot world wide rapidly as it is meant to appeal to the same audiance as the original but with far better graphics, mechanics, and overall flare.
Clever, I think your confusing what a quote is but its no big deal to me. You often make knowledgable and thought out posts, so if you think I have quoted you thats fine with me.
I've played Lineage for 3 years and Lineage II for a few months.
The game idea and mechanics and etc. are all really great ideas, but I'm guess that, like NCSoft did with the first Lineage, the game will be fudged up due to poor company quality. The US version will be watered-down, and exploits will run rampant.
Not to mention, [my guess is that] it will be $20/month.
Black Star Deceiver kills it all. The sun lies waiting for a call.

It appears that EQ is still the champ in the US, but there are some Asian games that have higher worldwide numbers. Lineage boasts a ton of players, especially in Korea. The game is old and not all that special, but Koreans seem to love it, I guess in the same way that the French love Jerry Lewis. Both are a mystery to me.
Ragnarok Online apparently sent shockwaves through Thailand upon its release there, with an estimated figure of over 600,000 Thai subscribers alone. Add that to the Japanese, Korean and US subscribers, and you may be approaching 1 million subscribers!
When you look at 4 million reported for Lineage, 1 million for Ragnarok and probably that many for FFXI, EQ's 450,000 seems kind of bush league.
I think lineage may have been the 1st MMORPG made by Koreans for Koreans. The Culture is so much different in Asia.
In the US everyone owns a PC, we play alone in our homes. While the image is changing, many still think of gamers/coders and PC user/lovers in general as "dorks" "geeks" "nerds" and many other Negative things.
In Korea, few own PC's you go out with your friends to play in PC Bangs. It's a huge social event, drink, dance, eat, talk and play games sitting around together. I figure this sort of peer pressure gives Lineage a userbase and longevity unheard of by American standards.
When was the last time a group of teen girls got together and shouted "Let's go the Bang, and get revenage on guild [name here]" in the US?
As why the French like Jerry Lewis? Their French!
