Really nice article, nice to see some lesson's learned! Gonna have to back it I think. The class reveals might seal the deal.

I would bet everthing against this game, sorry fpr the backers. This is much hype around a game that is more or less only a idea, but if this sells to the people, why not. If i see the news or tweets about them i just can tbelieve that actually someone is convinced that this will end well. Hope dies last i think.

What is the "other MMO that flopped" they refer to?

I'm not sure why @Grakulen danced around it. Go ahead, Rob.

Nice informative article.  Not sure which way this game will go but i do have my hopes up.  I do not think initial subs will be the problem, it will be on how to keep them.  A well polished release will be one way.  Glad they are not rushing to get into Beta.
    Haroo!

Hey, great! Very much appreciated. You pledged at a fun time. Tomorrow we start our class presentations.

Cool. If you are still on the fence, I definitely recommend waiting till you see enough of the class reveals to push you off the fence, one way or the other. And, as always, thanks for considering donating to us!

It's far more than an idea at this point as anybody who's been in our Alpha, Beta 1 and IT tests can attest to. Are we a finished game yet? Nope. Are we just an idea? Nope. And, I'm betting quite a lot of my own money that we will end well. :) Thanks for paying attention to us. I hope you like what you see in the coming months.

Exactly. A polished release is really important and that's one of the reasons we can't rush this out prematurely. That's also why our Stretch Goals are not geared to pre-launch content and will continue to focus on hiring and post-launch additions. We have a lot of talented folks here but we have to be smart as well.

Very good read. The over arching concept that just sticks in my mind is the comment on the 2k players in a "smallish battleground area". This is something I have wished for for my entire gaming life. My wishes, for the day when I come over the top of a ridge and gaze upon a huge battle in the valley before me with huge amounts of forces on all sides including all of the instruments of war like catapults, trebuchets, supply carts and giants. I want to jut sit there for a moment and take it all in, the sounds and sights of a huge battle. Mark this off my bucket list.....them just charge in and kill or be killed :)

That is exactly what we are going for. Will we make it? As always, time will tell but this time, we are not sacrificing that goal for some other goal. Every decision that can impact our ability to deliver on large-scale battles is a decision that has to be carefully thought out and considered. And even then, it will usually lose out to large-scale battles.

Thanks Oz, appreciate it. It's going to look a lot better in the next few months as we not only put more emphasis on the game, rather than just on the engine, but because we also now have the other senior graphics engineer that we have been searching for. He's already begun to affect the schedule, in a good way. :)

Please let me know what you think after all the class presentations are done. You can't easily have Realm Pride without Class Pride. And, I hope that our Backers will agree with me that we are going down the right path with our current class lineup. It's going to be an interesting few months, that's for sure.

Speaking of Realm pride, based on what I saw so far - it looks like 80% folks will be playing Vikings, 20% Arthurians and the rest TDD. Oh, wait... In my personal, 100% unbiased opinion, an easy fix to this slight disproportion would be adding Wood Goblins to TDD. Problem solved.

As to how will play what, time will tell, especially after all the class presentations. :)

I haven't pledged yet because I've been waiting to see and read more about the development of the game. I also mostly play stealth based classes in MMO's and want to hear more about how stealth will be handled in CU.

It is good to hear that CU will not use similar server technology that games like ESO & Wildstar use. I don't like being on one giant server with everyone, I think it does more harm than good. It has a negative effect on player economy, grouping up with friends to do quests, dungeons or PvP and no one cares about realm/faction pride. It was a nightmare in ESO trying to group up with your friends because of multiple instance layers. And something I missed about Dark Age of Camelot was the alliances and rivalries that were formed in PvP...it's almost impossible to do when you're playing on one "mega" server with multiple instance layers. It just does not make for the type of experience I want from an MMO.

When games make claims like 2K in a battle they should back it up with some kind of graphical representation of their simulation results

Well we can hope. GW2 as an example gets skill lag at 100/150+ clashes. So lets hope CU devs have/will laid better groundwork. But 2k players in a single battlefield, I will believe it when I play it:) Sure will be awesome if they get it to work.

Games are programs like any other. Define some parameters, develop a test and graph the results. Leave he said she said word games to the midden heap of dilettante wanna-be mmo's.

I cannot speak for others but i have certain things i look for to hook me in.

Class reveal doesn't do anything for me unless it gives me some information on how each class operates within the game and within a group.

What i see in every single game is a lack of planning to the future and what purpose does a player have in the world. If that was not clear ,what i mean is almost every single game is just a leveling grind wheel,a meaningless pvp game or linear questing. Then because that has bored every gamer in existence they are all asking for end game this and end game that.

Imo it is a real chore to develop a meaningful game world with REAL buildings and structures that actually have doors and lifts, animated objects etc etc

What exactly does a player do or suppose to do once he steps foot in the game?I see some mention of building a house and i guess an entire village of some sort, that is all good for starters. However will players have enough content to do or will it just be another leveling system with added pvp?

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Assuming the graphics is kept simple to accomodate hundreds of players in the field at the same time?

2,000 players in a small battleground area, that's awesome, and the 2 senior programmers joining the team is an excellent news! Can't wait to see all the great ideas come to life in the near future. Exciting times =)
