I can't imagine that Aventurine would let the rights to DFO go out the door while DF:UH is still live.  There's no way they're going split their revenue base with another company considering that a lot of DF:UH players will jump ship and go back to DFO.

If they do, then they aren't too bright, or they're looking for a big cash out on something tangible that they can sell right now.

I played the original Darkfall from start to finish and I can happily say, those ~3 years were the best gaming experiences I've ever had in an MMORPG. Sure enough, the game had a lot of flaws, but it's strengths combined with the community that played it, is what made it experiences worth remembering.

Unholy Wars was unfortunately "created" (they took DF1 and modded it a lot, the original developers left the building already) by a bunch of Greek clowns that said "Hey, we got this Darkfall game and we're not making WoW-monies, let's make it more mainstream so we can get our share of them WoW-monies!". The end result was a shell of a game, that to this day is still being 'fixed' by a very small development team (but I do want to make a comment here and say that this small development team has done a better job on DFUW than any previous team did).

As for DFUW and these DF1 revival projects competing, this is only partially the case. Today, DFUW and DF1 are now largely two different audiences, they won't be competing that much at all. However, the two DF1 revival projects WILL compete, and one will fail because of it, and I already have a feeling which one it is going to be. But none of that matters for Aventurine, because they will be collecting royalties either way. The revival projects will be an income stream for Aventurine which can then be used to keep the company floating, and hopefully to further develop DFUW.

I only wish the best of luck to all three Darkfall projects.

Edit: Someone bloody fix this horrible comment form on this website, why do I have to resort to HTML for basic formatting like paragraphs?

The early days of the original Darkfall was some of my most memorable MMO experiences!

If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!

@TenienteDan To me Rise of Agon is looking much more professional. Lets make a few comparisons.

Rise of Agon= Makes posts at designated dates/times.

New Dawn= Fanatically posts on reddit to every second or third post and has spotty times on official communications so you have to hunt down all their hundreds of posts to get most information.

Rise of Agon= A group upwards of 40 people that are planning slower more community driven fixes to the game with a voting system.

New Dawn= A group of 10 people wanting to change many of the core aspects of the game and promising to change major code functions without having ever seen the code to know what they are dealing with.

Rise of Agon= A team of old players who are very transparent and do not hide who they are. We know Kimoshu is the head, We know they have Umberto Finito a beloved Darkfall video artist. We know they have baddies like Rawr LoTD and Assassin Parks whose name I borrowed for this post as mine was already taken. We know they have new player specialists in Kimoshu Grakenshelm (mentioned again I know) who ran NEW for a while, They even have the guy who tried to revive NEW after it died off with the clan NEWER, Edgar Surefoot. They have a pretty well rounded team of people we KNOW!

New Dawn= Still hiding their in game names. If RoA is willing to admit they have Kasmos why can't New Dawn say who they have?

Just my opinion but so far everything is leaning heavily in RoA's favor.

Or you could just look at their website and find prett much all informations there :). http://darkfallnewdawn.com/new-dawn-in-a-nutshell/

I might not have seen this. Can you give me a link ? Cause I've seen many changes planned, but with no timeframe, and they keep saying they will say more when they have the code.

New Dawn= Still hiding their in game names. If RoA is willing to admit they have Kasmos why can't New Dawn say who they have?

Here I completely agree. But on the other hand, what does it matter ? RoA reveals their in-game name because they're a community project, on the other hand Ubergames is a company. I'm waiting for both team to launch a product before I take a stance. The only thing is that I don't enjoy paying for a kickstarter while I could pay directly for a game. But then again, let's see what they offer.

Darkfall was a very unique MMO for sure, nothing ever like it before or after its release. It definitely deserves to be brought back.

Personally, I can't wait to give it a try again. Some of my best gaming experiences come from that game. The territorial conflict/sieging/clans waging war against each other was amazing.

Both teams have their problems. RoA is a team made up pretty much on the spot for this project, so in many ways they have not proven themselves to be capable of running an MMORPG. They are however very passionate about the project and they do this primarily out of love for the game. I know this because the majority of them are long-time Darkfall players, some who I played with myself. The Darkfall community was always high on talent, from artists to people with IT backgrounds, so it's no surprise to me they are capable of setting up such a large team in a relatively short amount of time. I think out of the two projects, RoA has the most 'promise' of actually pulling it off - although there is a notable matter of funding to be addressed.

As for the ND team, well the problem is that nobody knows who they are. They sort of just appeared out of nowhere when Aventurine first started talking about licencing options. They claim to be former players and to have experience in this line of work, but these are just claims, and the only 'public face' we see from this team is a generic forum account called 'ub3rgames'. Too many unknowns around this project lead me to believe it's a non-starter.

Have you looked at our about us page?
    http://darkfallnewdawn.com/about-us/

There is a difference between multiple people using a corporate account for a well managed communication and not having public faces.
You know our real life names, what we have done in the past and our abilities.

Remember that Darkfall was made initially by 11 people only, so was DAOC. We have it easy in comparison by getting a mostly completed game to upgrade.

It is very easy for us to maintain high interaction with the player base when some of us are already full time on the project.
We chose that path because it is important for us to receive feedback this early in the process to see what we could have missed, or improve, before we invest in actual development.
We are gambling our careers on this project, so you can rest assured that we are very passionate about Darkfall and we care about its survival and success.

As for our website, we are aware that the design is bland. It is a temporary solution to get the word out there, the content is the focus. We're planning a proper redesign once the licensing deal gets signed.

Still alive???? I grabbed a one month sub and ran around in this game back and forth across the map for 6 hours. I didn't see a single person in the world, all I saw was 3 people standing afk in one of the towns. There's no chance in hell this game is "still alive"

    lol....
