Blizzard has filed a new lawsuit in California that alleges that James "Apoc" Enright, creator of HonorBuddy, StormBuddy and DemonBuddy, has cost the gaming giant millions of dollars in lost revenue as a result of bot sales and use in World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm and Diablo III. The suit seeks an order to stop all sales and distribution of the bot programs and financial compensation that could total tens of millions of dollars if successful.

This is the one time that I would say im Happy Blizzard is doing this. More Companies should go after gold sellers and botters because its the one thing in MMo's that give them a tarnish. ugh have i dreamed of catching a botter or gold seller in person what i would do...

ROFL! Blizzard acting up as if the massive drop in subscribers is due to botting, than on their abysmal lack of care and content for its game. Ha! *points finger meme*

I always say that players resort to botting a game when the act of actually playing it is no longer justified.

nah, a HUGE chunk of botters are doing it for money and to cheat to gain an advantage

hbuddy has destroyed wow pvp. player controls their character a little, moving it where they want but the bot does all of the moves and responses for them in pvp. it does moves inhumanly fast and responds to things before they are even visible on the screen.

bliz has no choice but to confront this issue. It has been killing a huge chunk of their game for 3 years now, and only getting worse. Legit players have been quitting but the botters have stayed so the ratio of cheaters you face in WoW nowadays is redonk.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women...

I hope Blizzard wins this. We shouldn't have to tolerate botters destroying our gaming experience time and time again.

No, many do it to gain an unfair advantage in PVP, PVE or the economy.

If no longer worth actually playing they should just quit and not spoil the fun for others.

Blame the person creating bots or blame the company for not providing adequate regulation and protection against bots? ... seriously, is there really a question which is right? Billion dollar company going after an individual is disgusting and perpetuates corporate control over what is "right" and what is "wrong." I guess all of you have never used a torrent program or any other program that allows you to download illegal software? Derp. Use the tissue in your skulls, people.

It's these kinds of assholes that ruin gaming experiences and bring about these draconian anti hacking  measures in the first place.

Go get em Blizz, spend some of them billions on something that's good for us consumers.

Im a big PvPer. If my MMO does not keep the PvP and PvE side of me happy I tend to walk away. Last expansion I got my fill of leveling and questing and went to PvP. There was so many bots, it was unplayable. Mobs of 5-10 bots chain rolling the maps. Even when you won it was so frustrating I walked away from the PvP. I would have played many more months or still might be if not for the bots in PvP.

I don't play the game and not interested, but I do hope Blizzard prevails in this suit. I look at bots as a plague upon the land.

Good see them trying to do something finally, but blizzard really needs to get off their high horse with that document... honorbuddy has been around since 2010 (if not before).. blizzard / gaming companies(they have created bots for) haven't cared enough over the years (probably because they still getting paid) and as you can see, this botting creators have made a business from it.

Had blizzard cared enough to do this 5 years ago.. it wouldn't be as big as issue it is now and likely these guys would never have been able to make a business out of it.

sad thing is, they probably started doing reserch on taking them to court five years ago lol...dam lawyers

Demonbuddy seems nice for d3. not support botters, but d3 have so many bot users its dont really matter if i use too.

100 percent behind Blizzard on this, they should make an absolute example of the guy, cripple him financially and destroy his business, if they can make a big enough example of him, it will benefit not just  WoW but other MMO's too, bots are a plague, its about time something was done about their creators, hell if Blizzard can get the guy incarcerated too, that would be a win! WTG Blizzard!

If they win, can I sue Chevrolet for making a tool used to run over my dog?  Auto manufacturers would really be in court a lot from all the drunk driving accidents.

Of course they won't actually sue the players who are the real problem, after all they are profiting from those players that are actually botting.  Hmm, sounds to me like Blizzard causes it's own problem.  I don't support botting, but they need to attack the proper people, and ban those subscriptions including their IP addresses.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I can guarantee that Blizzard has spent millions over the years on anti-botting measures. Corporate control? It's their bloody game! They set the rules, period. Don't like them, don't play, it's as simple as that.

Your example is completely off-base. Torrent software and botting software are nowhere close to the same thing. Torrent software has many legitimate, perfectly legal uses. In fact, many companies these days use their own proprietary versions of said software to deliver content to their customers. Botting software on the other hand, has no legitimate use. It's designed specifically to allow people to cheat, and is a direct violation of the ToS agreed to upon starting the game. Not only does it cost Blizzard money, but it ruins the play experience for many others by giving those willing to break the rules an unfair advantage over those who show integrity and abide by them.

I honestly can't believe I had to explain that to somebody. I really hope you're just trolling.

Designed to cheat?... botting doesn't allow or is cheating. There design purpose is to automate gameplay without user input... only able to do what your able to also do while playing, just automated.

No legitimate use?... botting is a core function of some games like perfect world's Jade Dynasty. So they not always used to cause a problems for other people.

I don't support or use bots... but i don't see them as cheats either. They just something people use for endless automated gameplay which i prefer to play myself if im interested in the game. That doesn't meant i don't think them annoying either but i've never quit a game over others using them.

Even if Blizzard loses they can tie this up in court for years and cost those bot-makers a big chunk of money in legal fees.

The difference being he is getting paid for it DERP! Hence he it making a living off their game DERP! You seem to have this notion that anything "Corporate is GREEDY and BAD" DERP!

Well Sweet child o' Mine people do work for a living and depend on those CORPS to be in profit to pay them.DERP! The INDIVIDUAL is claiming he is all that under his alias and gave them a great Bullseye to make an example of DERP! Adequate protection against bots means taking away the API from people releasing helpful mods and being able to use those on College apps and Job Apps DERP!

    Except two problems here ...

1 It sounds 100% like they are blaming bots for lowered sub numbers. When you bring this up AFTER the fact when bots were in game from the first week,it looks like sour grapes or scapegoating.I see any decent lawyer making Blizzard look foolish.

Now if they had of gone after this company say in year 1 i could buy into it but not several years later.

2 They have to prove that this business was targeting Blizzard, what someone else does with a program is not their responsibility. The only one who wins those lawsuits are government and in this case ONLY if this business cannot afford a good lawyer to combat Blizzard's multi million dollar lawyers.

Also if they do some research from 2-3 years ago ,there  was an interview with Blizzard staff that said they KNEW of botting but were not seeking out every botter, instead were looking to fry the bigger guy. That right their shows their own negligence in not wanting or trying to clean up botting and only aiming at a few people.Basically it is like a government investigation allowing a criminal to roam free to catch his boss then that criminal kills a few people,it is called negligence.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Hardly. Billion dollar company going after an individual who is creating something that disrupts the original intention of the Billion Dollar company's product is quite just. Nothing disgusting about it.

And "no" I don't download software illegally, always pay for it. I figure if I get paid for my job that others should get paid for theirs. It's a difficult concept for those who don't have tissue between their skulls but it could be learned.

I hope Blizzard annihilates this group.
