Hooah! SOE did it again!

Please call all you friends to return to the game, they are bringing SWG for PlayStation 3.  The same friend who told me about the NGE before it was on beta just told me that SOE/LA has integraded SWG on PS3 and they are testing it at LA, California.  They are paying players $125 to test the NGE on the PS3.  I want to sign for this ASAP.  This is a great story SOE/LA PWND all MMOs beign the first to bring a MMORPG on a console.  He also mention that there is no longer need to type, we are going to be using a ventrillo type of software in the game.  So you can scream to your friends haha in the game.

Good Job SOE/LA keep up the good work!

Remember I am the first to tell you this and the NGE system.  This is confirmed from a reliable source the same person who told me about the NGE before it was released.

I dont like this little punk's attitude but it does make sense of some of the changes to SWG. The 2 button attack mode and the awful chat system which dont seem compatible to PC gaming.

But... but... Smedley said they had no plans to port it to a console! I just can't believe that $OE would outright lie to it's customers!?!!

    /sarcasm mode off

Ya, I can believe it, sounds like something $OE would do, and would explain why they turned SWG into a shitty console type of game. Would totally prove all the posts about how the current players are paying to beta test the console version for $OE.

Won't matter to me though, there is no chance in hell of me ever buying a PS3, or any other Sony product ever again.

If this turns out to be true, do they really think there are going to be a ton of people just waiting to play SWG on a console by the time the PS3 finally launches?? Ya right, good luck with that $OE, you'll need it.

$OE and Sony can eat a bag of Hell! image

This would make perfect sense from all the changes and their stubborness to roll them back.  Perhaps this move will even save SWG from it's downward spiral.  You just won't see me playing it.  It's not my kind of game anymore regardless of the platform.

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

I have just confirmed attending at the Focus Group. I am a vet that cancelled at the NGE. I told them the NGE made me cancel, and They still want me to come. SO I don't think it's PS3 Testing.

Hmm.. I thought our little informants Uncle/Buddy/sisters boyfreind was canned in Austin... Interesting... but then again... We all KNEW that the NGE was nothing more than a gateway to making SWG into a console FPS game.

Speaking of console games, it will also be interesting to watch Sony get their market share back from Microsoft... With all the delays on the PS3 and Xbox 360 being the dominate force in the console market, it's going to be entertaining watching Sony trying to convince thier constantaly shrinking player base into playing SWG.

  • ArvadArvad Member Posts: 107

This is certainly something interesting to speculate about.

Best estimates are that the PS3 may not make it's way to the U.S. in any significant numbers until 2007 and may be very expensive ( in the $700.00 range).

MMORPGs for the new generation of consoles is not unreasonable with their capabilities in storage, graphics, and input devices. Microsoft's Marvel MMORPG will be for the Xbox 360 so there is already some movement in that direction.

Besides Sony's issues with the PS3 itself it also has no service comparable to Xbox Live for online gaming. Wait, you don't think? No! Not SOE!

Anyway, a SWG 2 for the PS3 will be a long way off and they will have a hard time competing with Microsoft. Have you considered that Microsoft may be gunning for Sony? Not only do you have the Xbox 360 vs PS3 but there is also the Marvel MMORPG vs the DC MMORPG. Come to think of it Microsoft is the financial backer of Vangaurd, is taking on Everquest also in their plans?

I'm sure they're kicking around the Xbox2 version if the PS3 doesn't ship soon.

And quite frankly, this may be the only way to "save" the game.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled :( - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

    Arvad:

I've seen the market reports that your refering to as far as the PS3 costing Sony $700 per unit,  I believe the Xbox 360 costs Microsoft around $500 to produce. Gonna be tough for Sony to knock $200 off their production cost which I believe is why the PS3 is delayed.

I really never considered Microsoft a major competor in the MMO market, the only reason being that Sony has dominated the market for the last decade or so.

BUT! You bring up the point that Vanguard is financed by MS... Hmm....I really think you are on to something. We all know that MS wants to control all things computor related... I believe you are right in your assumption that MS is going after the Everquest crowd.

It would make perfect sence... Brilliant deduction my friend! image

The only question is now, do we trust MS?

Do you know if this Marvel MMO is being developed soley for the XBOX 360 ? Im concerned future MMO's might lock out the PC world

If it has the potential to earn money, Microsoft will be sure to dip its finger in that pie image

The Marvel game is for the 360 but Vangaurd is obviously for the PC, Microsoft is covering it's bases.

Guessing they are going after two different market segments:

Marvel = Causal and younger players

    Vangaurd = Hardcore and mature

Good question Riker, but I doubt it. Remember, MS is a PC based company.

And to Obraik.. LOL! have you noticed that 85% of the rumors in the last year have been true?

    O rly?

What about the one about SOE losing the license to SWG?  Game shutting down in Jan/Feb?  Pre-CU roll back instead of pub 27?  Producer letters announcing that the game is shutting down/rolling back to pre-cu?  Julio being fired?  Should I go on? :p

As for MS's MMO.  It does seem they want to merge the PC and console (Xbox 360) together.  The only catch is you need to have Windows Vista to take advantage of that heh.  So don't be surprised if it does actually play on the PC too, but you need to have Vista to do so.

    Obriak:

I still believe that SOE is losing the license from LA. And I never believed that SWG would be shut down in Feb or march as some has claimed. it takes at least 6 months for a company to review after making a drastic change. Take the radio industry for example, since Howard Stern left Clear channel (CBS) the shows that are taking his place are dropping in ratings big time...  but CBS is going to give the show's at least 6 months to gain a market share back.

And I never believed there would be a pre-CU roll back... Im sure others did so your lumping me in with them.

So in all fairness, I'll change my "trueness" rumor scale from and 85% to a 70%.

Hmmm, that reminds me of something else. Microsoft came out supporting HD DVD instead of Sony's Blu-ray in September in a surprise move. Previously they had proclaimed their neutrality between the two formats. Makes one wonder.

There is actually going to be several versions of O/S's to choose from from MS... There is bound to be an O/S part of Vista that is dedicated to online gaming.

Interesting to hear you got in to the focus group even having quit over the NGE. If you are not bound by some NDA about talking about it, would it be possible for you to let us know here what went down and what you feel they might be doing? I am sure a lot of us would really love to hear from someone that went to it.

And, if you are bound by an NDA, then please make up a fake name here and post what you learned anyways image, we just gotta know!!

    Thanks in advance!

Oh and as far as Microsoft taking on Sony. I sure hope they kick the crap out of them, I know I'd rather be Bill Gates bitch than a Sony sucker. Hell, all my computers run windows XP, and I got an Xbox and enjoyed that, I got no hate for MS *yet*. And Vanguard is looking pretty damn good so far, I like what the devs have been saying and it seems to be going for the more hardcore group and not the carebears who can't have things too hard. MS will be taking a chunk of players from some MMO, and probably a lot will come from EQ and EQ2.

  • SofaKing2000SofaKing2000 Member Posts: 196

Crap... I forgot about the blu-ray thing... this reminds me of the Beta vrs Vhs in the late 70's and early 80's.

This will be interesting to watch because it will effect all of us.

For those that don't know, Sony's blu-ray is a different DVD or CD coding that's not compatible with most DVD or CD players. The reason being that most of us have MS/Apple compatible CD/DVD players. So in essences, if Sony follows threw with their blu-ray technology and other companies say fuck off to Sony, we're all going to need to have 2 CD players and 2 DVD players...

assuming that you still want to purchase anything from Sony's entertainment division.

  • slapme7timesslapme7times Member Posts: 436

actually, this is working out perfectly.

revolution isnt hd, and it's using mini non dvd discs.

360 is hd gaming but not hd dvd.

ps2 was a massive driving factor (85 million sold) in putting dvd players out and popularizing the format.

with nobody to back hd-dvd, and ps3 moving with blue ray...

i think that not only is 360 going to tank because ps3 offers a better player, but it will push everything blue ray which is a better format .

    so the consumer wins.

better game system developed for (ps3)

gamers get a free high def player (ps3 blue ray)

better format for all to use.

i dont think this is going to be like vhs / beta...

this is going to be a landslide blu ray. no doubt.

There are I think 6 different versions of Vista from the very basic (kinda like XP Home) up to an "Ultimate Version" (packs alot of gaming benefits and subscriptions, etc).  Probably only be the Ultimate version (ie. most expensive version) that allows any 360 compatibility image

    Slapme7times:

If you remember the battle of Beta vrs Vhs.... you do know that Beta was better right?

Vhs won because company's like Sony made it their standard product. Beta was far superior in quality to Vhs.

I fear this might happen again with this damn blu crap.
