I hope all the devs land on their feet, there is a good game somewhere there buried beneath that sh*tstorm.

I have no love for the CEO if he is withholding cash that could help the rank and file, nor for homophobe Orson Scott Card who provided the lore.
Ok, you can't just drop an accusation like this and vanish; I might be the last person on the internet to know, but, where are you getting this?

For the Orson Scott thing, I think he's referring to this for the lore:

Having this happen right in the middle of the holidays is just ridiculous. Shows poor planning and terrible management which have been a staple of Red5 since day one. It is sad that so many talented people are so greatly affected by terrible leadership at the top.

A sad day indeed. The ONLY true, FPS MMO game, where you actually have to AIM your shots rather than this "soft tab" crap most games are going with of late.

    *********************

It's far from the only MMO where you have to aim your shots.
Planetside 2. I logged in the other day, and it seems to be struggling too.  :(

Did you even read your wiki link on his opinions on homosexuality orsame sex marriage? Homophobe doesn't even come close to his mix of opinions on the subject.

Seems like lots of people want to say that homophobia is anytime that a heterosexual describes their preference over same as stuff. Itisjust crazy that people cant understand that people with differing opinions on sex wont agree! By definition they wont agree!

Not being paid, overworking  and companies going belly up every couple of minutes, happens every day in california's tech sector.

No wonder so many companies are moving out of CA
Silicon Valley is in a major boom right now. There is a sever shortage of workers, and new companies are springing up ever day....

However, I fear that such a boom is doomed to crash, and that we will be looking at the dot com crash all over again in the next few years.

This could happen with Star Citizen as well because Chris his brother and his Accountant/lawyer sold all their shares to the company, therefore in reality took a ton of money out of the business and put it into their pockets.Imo if not for the way over the top cash shop sales of ships, they would have been in the same situation lacking funds.Well it is already obvious when they shut down one or two operations they were taking too much money out of the business. Then of late they claim they cannot meet anymore refunds because they claim there is no money.
You just can't help it can you ?

You see a post about a random game and the first thought that creeps in your mind is: how can i turn this into a flame / hate post about CR and SC ? Easy, i'll type some BS out of my ass and label it as facts.

    You're beyond pathetic.

I read this then went to YouTube when I saw this Extra Credits video from a few years ago. So did the prediction come true for the reasons stated in the video or was it something else?

Many times when the CEO / Founder is holding a majority of the shares, the value of their holdings are always overstated.

In this case, Jun Zhu's shares are worth $45 million with the current market price of the stock - but which investment bank, or private investor, would buy all of his shares for $45 million?

If he were to try to sell these shares of his troubled company on the stock market, he would only get a small fraction of it. Not to mention if word gets out that he's selling his shares, the stock price will plummet before he can sell anything.

That might be the case, as being a Software Engineer I'm getting calls all the time from head-hunters desperate for talent to fill their stacks of job opportunities.

However, all these "opportunities" pay CRAP! Being just on 6 figures with my current job, I'm getting 2-3 jobs offers a day where they want to start out, on something like $80K... if I'm lucky.

Yea right, I'll take a pay cut, to take your shitty junior entry level, grunt coder job!

Ultimately the reason they ended up in any financial trouble is due to mismanagement by project leaders/people in charge. This game went back to the drawing board on a lot of things very frequently and wasted countless hours just redoing parts of the game. This wastes a ton of money and the like. I find the fact this guy has these shares and their value being what they are not selling enough of them to make payroll to be a bit of a concern. Particularly since it shows that the company itself is not profitable in the way it is operating (either higher ups are being paid too much or the game just isn't bringing in enough)

Those shares are worth ZERO<no idea who and how they come up with a 45million figure, there must be something else tied into those shares like some high end business shifting like a loan off of the business or something because nobody in their right mind would buy a single share.

There is so much bull within the whole share and stocks idea, like various types of shares,it sure seems like a complicated system to feed illegal activity under the veil of actually being legal.

I fail to understand how a business owner/CEO can just make up shares and  own them because you can in essence keep selling more and more and just make more, eventually they become so diluted with so many shares that people stop buying then you just dump them all ,no matter how low they sell for you can only profit because you never paid a penny for those shares.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Out of the original five founders of the studio, not single one stayed on past 2013.  That should have set off warning sirens to anyone remotely interested in this game.

So this game has had the odds stacked against it for a while now.

Well its a DBG game but Planetside 1 and 2 have had that feature for years, and probably have a greater claim to it than Firefall did, all things considered, particularly when it comes to player numbers and being an actual MMOFPS, if it wasn't for the fact that Planetside 2 is so badly supported, plagued by hackers and a bit too much P2W then i'd probably still be playing it, along with many others no doubt.

The game itself showed potential during the initial beta, years ago. Since then, clearly the game hasn't moved at all, as I tried it a few months ago and essentially saw the same game but with less interesting gameplay mechanics (dumbed down) and a removal of PvP (who removes PvP from an MMOFPS?).

Which made me wonder what they have been doing in all those years...

Too bad for the employee's, especially the timing. Here is to hoping management doesn't walk away too lightly for their failures (hah).

This game could have been one of the best games out there but the devs screwed it up when they kept making changes, the game in the beginning was awesome it just needed more content. But what do I know I was just one of the founders.

Are people saying the CEO should sell his stock to pay the employees?  It's amazing the ignorance some people have...that's not exactly how things work.

UPDATE: (DEC 30): GOOD NEWS! According to Gamers-Haven.org, Red 5 employees will be paid on December 30th after the company missed last week's payroll deadline. However the same report indicates that "according to reliable source inside the company" several employees were let go last week and, as with layoffs at the end of November, did not receive severance packages.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think this issue is too late to mend- the fact that the remaining employees wish they worked somewherelse given the opportunity says it all-imo. a great game gone nowhere -again!
