My Prediction: Tabula Rasa - Game of the Year 2006

StellusStellus Member UncommonPosts: 263
I had the privelage to sit down and play the early workings of this game at E3. All I can say is, "Wow". This will be the MMO that I will finally sit down and enjoy for a long time to come. Just a suggestion to everyone - don't write this game off at all, it will blow you away!

That is nice to hear. While my own hopes are more on Fallen Earth and Twilight War at the moment, having an alternative is always good.
It seems 2006 will finally bring a good variety of semi-FPS MMORPGs. Right now there is Neocron, but not much else.

Is anyone else not confinced this game will actually be released in 2006. I guess its just the total lack of info, but this game takes lack of info to a new lvl if its really going to be released this year.

I mean...no official game forum, no beta mentioned, no descent game FAQ on official site???

All this game has me doin right now is scratch'n my headimage

Late 2006 is my best bet.... I know people are going to hate this idea but this game seems suited for a next generation console..infact i bet it would even sell better

Well 2006 I doubt.  Knowing Sir Garriots normal dev record since UO Id be very careful about getting my hopes up too high about a 2006 release.

Im very much looking forward to this game just because of Garriots spiel on the MMORPG podcast.  However, I really doubt that a game with no PVP can EVER be considered for MMOG of the year.   In fact I highly doubt that a straight PVE game will ever again be considered a contender for a blockbuster MMO.  Reason being is that there has never been an AI that could provide a more visceral and challenging game than a human.

Im luke-warm in my expectations of TR, its very much vaporware in my opinion...fanbois beware, to me any game not actually launched is Vaporware.

I dearly hope Im pleasantly surprised, but again Im doubtful.

Yes because we all know that retail companies are always spot-on with release date info. The same can be said for MMORPG.COM (notorious flat out liars about release dates).

I so want to play this, and have high expectations from it. I just long for more updates, discussions etc from the devs. The last update on the homepage was nov 05 ;Z And I really would like some info on beta, and how to sign up, both for the us and eu. I hate living in the eu :( We get everything last, and all the info abou eu is very blend. It's just like from the wow days... I played on like 3 betas, before the eu beta started, and then the us version had been going on for like 4 months already. I hope for this game, the eu and us release will be pretty near eachother.

Oh my GOD! How did I miss this one. Looks sooo nice! I'll be getting this one for sure (unless they f. it up some how... but they seem like skilled crew).

Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

Probably worth noting for those of you who are worried about the lack of updates, that they still are giving out interviews to gaming magazines, though these often arn't posted on the Press parts of the sites. For example, this month's edition of an Australian magazine (PC Powerplay) included a rather large article to deal with Tabula Rasa and an interview with Richard Garriot in terms of what he thinks makes a good MMORPG.

That said, I honestly don't expect this to be out any time this year. I definately expect it to come out at some point, though. Either way, they're certainly still busy.

I was always a huge fan of the Ultima series and loved UO.  Is Tabula Rasa influenced at all by Garriott's past work, or is this something totally different?

  • emdtemdt Member Posts: 325

    somewhat different
    acutally, much different.
though im a big all around player, and tb combines mmo and fps elements. its swt to even look at the ss

In my oponion, tb crew is hiding the info and updates on purpose to keep us in supsense. and its working for me)

meh... I just dont think they have NC community support right now... for whatever reason, NCsoft considers the COH community some kind of failure.

ever since that game, they have been unwilling to support a community before beta testing for the game begins.

I think we're just seeing the latest line drawn in that sandbox... that they arent providing much more than teaser info on the site... no community director, no real site manager....
and I think that this lack of mindfulness has lulled the dev team... they arent putting together any info packages to be put up on the site, because no one is asking them for information to put up...

either that... or they are getting screwed over by AA.... having expected it to be released in october, so they could move their community muscle to their next project... and having that not pann out :-P

Behold Gamespy Interview with Richard and Robert Garriott

Looks to me that this game is going to be release and is not vaporware.
Article mentiones that the second planet will be shown off at this years E3, the game will ship with 2 planets initially, and have more planets come after live in updates/expansions.

*Will be checking PlayTR everyday from now on to be ready for the beta*

i cant wait to see real micro and macro ai strategies be used in an rpg.  it sounds a lot like adaptive botpathing and behavior that some of the new fps' have been using on just a larget scale.  this games going to get harder the more we play it

and i love the idea of something like that.  im gettin really tired of not having to think about things except "which special button to press" so i can predictably kill x mob in the same x fashion like i did the 10000 mobs before it.

richard has talked about the ai being used in this game and i cant wait.  sure there hasnt been ai thats been worth a damn im mmo's but theres some GREAT bot ai in the fps world (my favorite being the source cs bots).

    i cant wait

    Games i'm playing right now...

Well my expectation is they are flat out in development and prepping for a big showing at E3 this year.

After that will be the previews and news on whether we can expect a beta / release this year.

  • StellusStellus Member UncommonPosts: 263
Word is that Tabula Rasa is being given the same treatment Auto Assault was given last year.at E3. An outstanding show and premiered as their big project on the floor.
  • emdtemdt Member Posts: 325

yea it got best reviews during last years e3 and even awards for:

    Best Sound (2nd consective year)
    Biggest Suprise

AutoAssault should also win the "Worst BETA" award too.
Only 1-2day beta tests?! Not enough time to test or get a feal for it.image

    As for Tabula Rasa,

Only if they HYPE it like GuildWars and offer NO MONTHLY FEE it will GOTY-2006.  Offer each planet as a paid expansion so they can keep revenue going they just might have something that will work.

I've played all the PlayNC beta's and I'll be on this Beta for sure.  I'll know in the first 60minutes if this game will be a winner.

Game of the year 2006 I could possibly see that happening for Tabula Rasa really too hard to tell. Darkfall, Vanguard, DDO and LORT are certainly all the running as well, but who can tell if any will be released in 2006 or not yet. DDO and LORT both could ensue a bit of a cult following so there's good reason to believe there'd be contenders. Darkfall has been in the works for ages so it's got it's own pvp cult follower as well. Vanguard could be a contenter too for the same reason since it seems to have a bit of a following from the early EQ fanbase the same way TR I'm sure has a bit of a UO fanbase. It's too early to tell I think. In any case it looks to be a very intresting year for mmorpg's. Also keep in mind just because a mmo has allready been released doesn't mean it can't snag game of the year twice. EQ 2 with it's recent expansions seems to look much more attractive suddenly despite skeptics remarks made about the game.
  • emdtemdt Member Posts: 325

hmm i heard about eq2 exp.
    it got good reveiws
