Good thing about steam is a good way to get there game showed to million of users and don't have to deal with AD Block what most people use this days and not getting to target amount user.
But anyhow people who are playing wildstar that still playing will tell you if the game is dead or not who are really playing I have feeling people not playing it saying the game it's dead.
If Adblock kills WildStar, then the game has much bigger problems.
Adblock don't help any game. Much better for them going on steam then pour tons of money trying put ads on websites when alot people ad block. But it don't mean ads are not working but is not worth it to keep pouring ads on every web site just need to attack all side to get more people to see a new update.
Like I said people who really play the game knows the state of the game is who do play and go out and still raids or so on. I can log in atm tell everyone the game is dead but I don't play it full time it's not fair for the players still play and the new players coming in to the game trying it out if people don't play the game saying alot bad things about it when there not even playing it.
For me I'm half and half I like the game but don't like the endgame I know the game is not for me. Even I don't agree alot stuff they do like most mmo out there we never agree 100% a mmo does.
Man. sounds like the devs are getting more and more desperate. How is the game doing population-wise? Is it suffering that badly?
Agree.
They could have "re-launched" the game - when it went f2p - on Steam. It was even a topic on these forums before they announced that they were scrapping the mandatory sub option.
They didn't. Implication: they must have felt that they would make more money etc. going it alone; Steam will want paying after all - and since they made the game free-to-download rather than b2p NCSoft are going to have to pay Steam.
Launching on Steam now simply suggests to me that it hasn't done as well as hoped; next set of results we will probably find out.
Honestly I believe this game is great. I was a vet player and when they messed up my Subscription and took them a few weeks to fix it I had already moved on to another game. I did reach level cap and managed to do some raids and dungeons before i left.
The game is complex and very fluid and I honestly don't know why its failing.
My only hypothesis would be that people don't have time to play that classic Hardcore style game. They have already done that in Vanilla to current WoW and spending long hours to do the same thing in a different game seems pointless and not fun anymore.
I really hope Steam saves WildStar, because at this point, it's pretty much their last-ditch effort to actually make a decent population for themselves. I loved the game, but there just wasn't much to chew on, especially since population has pretty much always been an issues.
If you haven't tried it, it's free; definitely worth a shot!
I keep wanting to dive into this game, but I have so much going on with WoW and Pillars of Eternity's mini expansion is days away. Ugh, I worry the game might close down before I can really give it a go.
Naw regaurdless on what all the little self entitled haters think this game has a decent enough size of a playerbase and its a ncsoft title at that it will be here awhile.
Wildstar is the best MMORPG for PvE players and people that love dungeons and raids. As a WOW player from 2004 I must admit that Raid encounters are more complex and challenging then WOW was ever been (well.... after vanilla ofc).
With new content and going on Steam I think Wildstar is moving forward and that is an awesome thing for MMORPG community. Specialy now when we are zerged with Asian trash coming last few months.... Black Desert included.
Does anyone really care if games are on steam or not? Since when is this a news worthy thing?
Yes, mmo or not, the majority of people playing on PC prefer their games on Steam. Look at SW Battlefront, three people(not literally) play on Origin compared to over 150k on PS4. If that game was on steam it would have had a much larger playerbase than it currently has on Origin. That applies to mmos as well.
Unfortunately, I know im not coming back to Wildstar with that horrendous combat, but steam will surely help it a little bit. Hopefully.

Agree with you on it. I think hardcore raiding for long hours was a part of the earlier generation of online gamers and really doesn't appeal to a younger audience, who can get social experiences more conveniently through things like mobile gaming. The common ground seems to be found with games that handle end game raiding a bit differently like Destiny or Final Fantasy XIV. FFXIV did have hardcore grinding content, but they nerfed it heavily after seeing only a very select sliver of players ever did the content. They've been focusing on ways to divide up the challenge content so that people can complete them in bite sized chunks instead of one big dungeon experience.
Have they optimised the engine yet or it still runs like crap even on powerful rigs?
It runs like crap if you don't have a good Intel CPU... for example my FX 8350+GTX 970 is not doing OK. The CPU single core is too weak in many scenarios and GPU utilization drops a lot, framerate as well, of course.

I have 6300 AMD GTX 760 didn't have any or much optimized problem but I did when wildstar first came out now they fix alot the problem they had that time.

Heh there were quite a few NC SOFT titles that they closed down. Being one of their games would make me more worried rather than the opposite.
But to topic, i think steam will give this game it's best chance to reach a better number of users. And hopefully keep enough playing to make them money.
I predicted back when they were going FTP that this year might be the last for this game. But with steam launch, i have a bit higher hopes for it.
I think this is hands down the best wow-style MMO out there since burning crusade, with great combat too (if you play with a cursor lock, the base set up is really bad for the action type dodge necessary combat).

Steam proved to be a massive boost to Mechwarrior Online as well...
With so many pairs of eyes browsing Steam at all hours, around the globe, Steam can garner a huge amount of publicity -just by being offered in the store, regardless of if the games are on the front page's 'marquee'- plus updating games is FAR easier through the Steam interface.
Wildstar is huge. Tons of content ensures there is always something to do, and something to look forward to. Its really one of the last MMO's to deliver in this fashion . I can understand why its not popular; the combat system is very active and does get literally tiring after a few dungeon runs (As incredibly fun as they are); the Interface delivers everything and then some which intimidates the less experienced; and lastly, the difficulty is higher than most of today's MMOs (Even after its been toned down since launch). I feel its also important to note that the FTP model in Wildstar is hands down the best I've seen. You will NOT feel limited even in the slightest. They not only give you everything with no road blocks or coin barriers, but also refrain from flashing the cash shop in your face every step of the way. This alone has earned a deep respect from me. All in all, people can and will talk shit, but if we are to be honest.. Wildstar is as solid as they come.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
Sarcastic yay.
