The poll wasn't about "did you know?", it was about "should it be done?"

All that indicates people aren't  bothered about it being done or not.

Again, the only ones saying they never knew are those who never backed, only look for information that fits their PoV or just haven't been keeping up-to-date with anything.

Overall, the information was there. It was on the buy page for god knows how long and was stated again and again by streamers and was mentioned by CIG, all in a reasonable time frame. So no, it wasn't a sudden change. If people didn't know until now, that's no one else fault if i'm to be brutally honesty.

Yet it's the only example of any discussion on the forums which gets offered as proof that the split was widely known.
If it really was widely known then surely there'd be a much better example to show knowledge of the package split.

For those who cannot be bothered to stay up to date with the development of a project they have no intention of supporting  i recommend that they look for a different way of spending their time and effort.

Not really, could mean it's a topic people are uninterested about, think better proof would be threads upon threads of people saying the same as the OP.

It is, on every persons account page, it says what you've gotten and you can't over look it as you go there to check what you bought and all other information regarding your account.

It shows when he bought his package and what he gets.

It shows 2013  ti was bought and SQ42 and SC as separate digital downloads

As I said the information wont be known by people who have zero interest in buying the game, don't follow or only look for info to fit their PoV

Haha, yes yes yes Erillion, why am I not surprised that you would endorse the means for a company to avoid any and all responsibility.

Let's be honest here instead of apologising, it is up to the company to make sure their customers are informed, not the other way round.

"Separate" digital downloads does not mean "two wholly separate games". Why aren't you linking the vernacular "game mode" which was used, or addressing the issue the issue it was to be an "iterative stage of Star Citizen development".

The original funding, even the funding up to a year ago, was not for, "The game Star Citizen and the game Squadron 42". It was "The game Star Citizen and SQ42 will be a part of it". I know it, you know it. Arguing otherwise is "jumping into Robert's fantasy world of misdirection and intentional semantic spin". Stop blindly defending him for 2 seconds and use your head.

Never once, before months ago, was it ever expressed "we will release Squadron 42 as a separate product", ever.

That makes no sense, why would you have two separate downloads if they're meant to be the same game?

As I said in a older post, in the original campaign the plan probably was to have them as one game, not going to pretend I know, regardless, my point still stands that this wasn't a sudden change.

Okay if it was only months ago isn't that more than enough time for people to know? That can't be considered a "sudden change" if people have known for more than a few months can it?

No, as has been previously discussed, the reason so many people have been in the dark until "weeks ago" is because it was not made so loudly clear. It's been intentionally a gradual idea brought into the public's consciousness of the game's development.

Even people "arguing for the game", proponents, who followed discussions and updates, didn't fully realize these were two disparate products until recently. We can cite evidence to such discussions all day and it just becomes "oh, well, they were too dumb to get it". No, it was the process in which the information comes to light.

Take another example, Star Marine. People apparently "knew" last summer this would be "shelved", but no kind of official word came until long after Roberts sacked the skilled crew working on it. Then, when people ask for clarification, he says he doesn't like when people ask. Then it's apparent. Then it dawns on people, for all this glorious "movie footage" and "supposedly gameplay" displayed to get their support, the damn game, in reality, looks like what people are playing in this 2.1.2 tech demo.

Now we're left guessing what backers even will get and when ever. Transparent development process, indeed.

Star Citizen brings the visceral action of piloting interstellar craft through combat and exploration to a new generation of gamers at a level of fidelity never before seen. At its core Star Citizen is a destination, not a one-off story. It's a complete universe where any number of adventures can take place, allowing players to decide their own game experience. Pick up jobs as a smuggler, pirate, merchant, bounty hunter, or enlist as a pilot, protecting the borders from outside threats. Chris Roberts has always wanted to create one cohesive universe that encompasses everything that made Wing Commander and Privateer / Freelancer special. A huge sandbox with a complex and deep lore allowing players to explore or play in whatever capacity they wish. That universe is Star Citizen.

    •  A huge universe to explore, trade and adventure in

Space is unending, endless and so are your opportunities. Strike out to make your fortune amongst the Stars or sign-up for a tour of duty in the UEE Fleet.

    • Constantly expanding and evolving universe

We’re committed to making Star Citizen a living, breathing universe that is its own entity. It will be a constantly shifting and evolving place for players to explore and affect.

    • Micro updates rule!

We’re not interested in having yearly updates. Once live, we will have a team of people adding content on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. So we’ll always be adding data, stories and campaigns as well as reacting to the needs and actions of the players.

    • Squadron 42 - A Wing Commander style single player mode, playable OFFLINE if you want

Playable offline or online, co-op with friends, you sign up for a tour of duty with the UEE fleet, manning the front lines, protecting settlements from Vanduul warbands.

    • Life during wartime

If you distinguish yourself in combat, you might be invited to join the legendary 42nd Squadron. Much like the French Foreign Legion of old, they can always be found in the toughest areas of operation and always snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, regardless of the odds.

    • The conflict never ends

Upon completion of your tour you’ll re-enter the persistent Star Citizen universe with some credits in your pocket and Citizenship to help you make your way.  But in the universe of Star Citizen when one conflict ends, another is just around the corner.  You’ll have opportunity to spend more time with your squadron mates as additional Campaigns are released as part of the content update plan.

We know it may not look like this, but we do!

What you've seen was put together by a very small team over the past year. We felt that this vision needed to be shown rather than talked about so we invested our own money to build the technical and visual prototype that shows just how Star Citizen is going to push the limits of PC games.

Instead of taking this prototype to a publisher for a green light, we are cutting out the middleman and taking it to you.

You as the customer get the ultimate vote in whether we make this game. Your dollars are your votes and the better we do the more resources we’ll have to bring you a great game.

We have investors that have agreed to contribute the balance we need to complete this game as long as we can validate that there is a demand for a high end PC space game. By meeting or surpassing our target on Kickstarter you tell the world that you want a PC based Space Sim and allow us to make this game.

But we're offering more than just the chance to support the platform and genre.

As an early backer, you’ll also be getting a lot more than just the finished game.

For the people who pledge for their spaceship in the Star Citizen universe, you’ll be part of a select club that has exclusive access to early gameplay and behind the scenes development updates.

The people who pledge for their spaceships will get to test-fly them long before the general public. 12 months in, we will allow the early backers to play the multiplayer space combat Alpha, and then 20-22 months in they will get to play the Star Citizen Beta, adventuring around the huge open galaxy, well before the general public. We are going to limit our alpha slots to 200,000 as we want to stress test the game with real users, but will not be ready for the full load until we have finished Beta.

In addition, part of the money we are asking for is budgeted to maintain the Roberts Space Industries site with constant updates. Our goal is for the game’s website to be live from day one, constantly giving information about what’s happening in the galaxy even before the game is live, sharing interesting insights into the development process and canvassing the early backers for their opinions. Roberts Space Industries should be the first stop into the Star Citizen universe. When we say we want to involve the community, we really mean it!

Finally we are offering the pledge slots a discount to what the final digital price will be. Like Guild Wars 2, the basic game will be $60, but for the very early backers we are offering the entry tier at $30. But hurry! Slots are limited!

Our hope is that these benefits are compelling enough for you to pledge for your spaceship today.

Please support us, tell your friends and participate in the discussion. An amazing Interstellar adventure waits!

You're wasting your time. The citizens will continue to ignore or spin this because it doesn't fit the current PR narrative which is that this was the plan all along.

"...single player mode..." mode, not game
    "...
    this game..." singular, not games

You'd figure that if the deal was that you'd get an extra separate game for free, that fact would have been front and center when they were laying it on thick in the KS page.

The current spin is just revisionist BS and good citizens are supposed to ignore any evidence to the contrary.

Let me ask this however, what is the difference between this situation, and "offlinegate" in Elite Dangerous. I understand that Elite Dangerous, strayed a little bit ofcourse, between releasing on Xbox One, and Steam, both of which weren't mentioned until after the Kickstarter. Except for Steam, however the case was I thought that they were going to release it onto seperate platforms eventually anyways. Obviously due to Mac being broken due to OpenGL and 64 bit issues, from the latest update that went out the door. As we know with offline gate it wasn't possible due to the engine limitations. Unless I'm mistaken, feel free to correct me.

I have no issue with the Seasons ofcourse, as Braben has proven himself quite reliable at this point that he wants to get the project done. They also did mention that major updates were going to be paid expansions and minor updates were going to be free.

Would we say that these are necessary changes? Or just completely optional. I mean can a company just go off and say we're not going to combine these modes into one game because we value them as more than just one? Automatically erasing what they said back in kickstarter just to get more money from those who didn't back it? Who's bright PR mind was this.

If anything its false advertising and is a ponzi scheme by definition because of failure to deliver the goods in due course, judging by how the release date keeps getting pushed back further and further. And if it does come out one day? Then all the power to them, however the payment model has become such a image of, we're going to keep adding more and more that you have to/have the option to, pay for.

What person who has no sense of morality, push out a game when they made 107 million plus and are still (by reports from CR) raking in 2 to 3 million a month.

I think the next huge CIG screw-up will be the target of some amount of ridicule. They have the whole project so convoluted by this point, though, I can't tell in what form that will be. CIG can pretty much just stick the landing and say "we meant to do that", even if the whole thing turns out to be a grand social experiment. (not that I'm hoping for this, or that I think it will happen, but still...)

Lol you really have to laugh at this stuff.

"I know we don't want to be like EA (even though Ubisoft is far worse these days) but with a base package costing $45, that makes the extra $1205 about the most expensive "season pass" of all time. Except it isn't even that because despite spending that much I'm still going to have to likely pay $45+ to get the next episode."

You could never have made something like this up. Just unbelieveable.
"Chris said he's rolling over the funding into the expansions. So my $1250 I've pledged could very well go to funding the development of a game I won't get to play unless I spend more money. "

Yeh, I alluded to this in a thread a couple weeks ago. CIG is going to release game content which is not included in the original investment package, and I think that's wrong.

"You said I get SQ42 in my bundle!"

"SQ42 is only the name of the first set of encounters. The other two are DLC expacs."

Great quote from another discussion forum...

"The biggest problem with rose colored glasses, red flags are just flags."

Watched that video on YouTube where Gary Whitta interviewed both Braben and Roberts about 3 years ago about their kick starters. Very very interesting in light of all that has happened since.

some call outs - Roberts emphasising the importance of meeting deadlines and putting out a constant stream of content for the backers, and how it's super important to listen to and respond to the community.

Braben dodged the question of copying how SC did their funding by selling ships very well, saying they were selling mugs and t-shirts :-)

i backed ED for £100 for the lifetime expansions.  It's such good value i'm now buying ship skins as I feel like I'm robbing them and want to give something back (about £2-3 each).

I've noticed that as CIG presents more and more indefensible positions for themselves, your response to posts seems to just get lower and lower in quality :P

You know to defend a position one has to dig up evidence, not asking others to dig it up themselves, lol. If that was the case no lawyers and investigators will be needed in the court of law because people will just ask others to "look for the evidence themselves" :P

When I first heard of SC a few years back I thought it was fishy. It promised way too much. After $100 million I can see this is just a big Ponzi-esque scheme. I'm glad I didn't put a dime into this game.

Whats sad is even if the game goes live, what then? They seemed to have already blown all the money they collected. Where is future income coming from to maintain this game? If people think virtual ships are expensive now, wait till it goes live (if it ever does).
