But none of that changes the fact that someone who spends $2000 on a variety of ships is as much as 4.5 months ahead of someone that doesn't. I don't know what point you're trying to make in relation to that.
The point i am trying to make is that the ship you mention (the Javelin) is an almost empty hull - the first task those 25 players have is to find the modules for the ship and get it installed. This has specifically been mentioned by CIG in the Javelin introduction. The first task of those 25 players will for sure NOT be lording over other players passing them in an Aurora, as some people seem to fear.
So much for someone being 4.5 month ahead of others in a big metal hull with engines (and not much else).

No no no, I never referred to the Javelin. I said ships, as in plural not a single ship, not a specific ship.
approx 20-30 hours for a single pilot fighter ship
60 hours for a Constellation for a solo player, 15 hours for the crew of 4
All those hours are non- hardcore, non 100 % money earning missions gameplay.
(Calculations based on the 60 hours example given by CIG)
And you know this because it's etched in stone and not "subject to change"?
How anyone still believes that what they once said is reliable information is beyond me.

Probably wont count much to some people, but the reason the project is taking longer to get completed for Star Citizen compared to Elite Dangerous, is that Elite Dangerous doesn't have a point where people actually get out of their ship and walk around first person. Squadron 42 and SC are requiring a lot of MoCap and animation work along with other details that Elite Dangerous developers didn't have to cope with.
Case in point, don't expect SC to be anything like Elite Dangerous. It's got a lot more meat to it than ED.
It does not "require" MoCap, this is a thing CR is eager to have in his game. I like to work with procedural animations in my stuff, the difference is that you can not easy blend from a mocap animation to a different state, you always have to wait for the animation to finish or break the "flow". Though as long as Mocaps are playing they look more natural, that's for sure and the only way to blend is through a ragdoll mask. On the other hand, inverse kinematics does allow you to blend everything without hitting the uncanny valley (which can be easy hit with mocapping). for example I can have my character lean on the wall with the left hand if wall is near and animation blends to idle and light a cigarette with the right hand. Without ever having a pre defined animation for this moves. With mocap you would need a "leanonwallandlightcigaretteHandIKAnim" (needs a little bit IK to actually hit the wall) and would waste a state, but you would have all the micro body expressions in it.
Case in point, don't expect SC to be anything like Elite Dangerous. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Well, a pilot can only fly one ship at a time, so .... he has about the same amount of work ahead of him as i do, even if he has 20 ships and i have only one. In fact, he has to pay the running cost for 20 ships (crew salaries in particular, perhaps also insurance, port fees etc.) which cuts into his profit.
Now someone will bring the example of the pilot that does solo runs in his giant Hull-E trader ship. And keeps forgetting that the cost to fill a Hull-E with cargo is so large, that people cannot afford it at the beginning of the game. They first have to acquire the necessary amount of cash to load their ship with cargo. While a group of 20 players just pools their resources and hits the ground running with their bigger ship - TOGETHER.
Which also means that those in the bigger ships have other things to do than to lord it over the starter player in his Aurora.
I suspect those solo players in those big ships will especially have to look out for suicide-hunter-killer packs in small ships starting on Day 1 of the PU .... i see those packs already training their tactics on the Crusader map in the Alpha.

I can't agree with that, yes you can only fly one ship at a time but accumulated wealth residing in various ships is not something that can be ignored. It also means that you can use the better ship for a specific task, ie a Reclaimer will obviously handle salvage ops with far more proficiency than my Aurora LN ever could. You could then switch into your BMM and do whatever with that far better than I could in my Aurora.
You're trying to pass it off as trivial but it's not trivial, it's a million miles from trivial. Perhaps it won't have quite as large an effect as I anticipate but it will certainly be far more than you're alluding to. But anyway, we've been here before, we know we don't agree about these things so there's no point in rehashing it.
I knew they were separate titles back when it started appearing on the pledges.. It's just basically a pre-order bonus to be getting both if you've pledged before the cut-off date..

Let's compare a new player to someone who purchased a javelin for real cash.
new player
Needs to grind out the cash to buy the javelin. You and 24 other players doing nothing but grinding cash . everyone now has to grind out more cash for all the modules, taking up more time.
Player who bought the ship
25 people grind out money for modules.
Do you see the issue? You get to skip the entire first part and instead focus on the modules/doing what you want afterwards. meanwhile that new player is still trying to get money together to buy the ship in the first place.
You ou can argue eventually they catch up but they won't because the person who spent real cash will have had a huge head start and will be able to get themselves established and make it harder for anyone else to muscle in on whatever they want to do.

Look, if you're worried about people getting ahead of you, THERE'S ALWAYS GOING TO BE THOSE PEOPLE unless you're one of those college student/no lifers who can afford to put that time in.
That said, join a big corp and rent/borrow one of the pre-outfitted ships that their wallet warrior players have out on loan.
Personally I'm looking forward to the PvE content I can do with friends and not 1v1 pvp dog fights although I am sure to dabble.

yes there will always be people ahead of you because they have more time but the issue here is that as soon as the game launches they will be day/weeks/months ahead of you and/or your corp or friends. You might have a dream of becoming a well known business person but the person who dropped 10k on ships already has the business set up, the contacts and the reputation while you were busy trying to get the ship to even begin hauling cargo.

And as in ANY multiplayer game ....
a few weeks or months into the game it does not matter at all with what you started .... if someone wants something, (s)he will have it by then, through work in the game ... or moved on to another game ...
And from my experience ... those who worked for it are those who stay in the games the longest ....

A few weeks or months it does matter still since you had the initial leg up and continue to have the leg up on someone who spent the base amount if you are doing the same activities.
Say you spend months grinding to get a ship for something you find out you didn't actually like. Back to the grind to get another ship meanwhile the person who dropped cash can just go back and forth between the ships they own when the mood strikes them.
And lets not forget that CIG will more than likely be putting out newer ships all the time. That person who dropped cash will be earning in game money from day 1 that they can save for the next best ship while you still lag behind.

And as in most mulitplayer games people tend to start on a reasonably even keel, a few days difference here or there. Not weeks, months or years. Here's a funny thing, someone that spent $30,000 (and there's more than a few) will have day one capital equivalent to someone that plays 3 hours a night, every night for 5.5 years. And that's from day one. I think it's wrong of CIG to enable that and I fail to see how it won't have an effect on various areas of the game.
I agree that people who work for things tend to appreciate them more but this game and its asset selling is so far from the norm that it's hard to imagine those rules will apply. For example I really can't see people who have spent $35,000 being the first quitters. I would imagine those people will play the game until it goes dark or they wouldn't be able to live with themselves.
will have day one capital equivalent to someone that plays 3 hours a night, every night for 5.5 years.
Have i missed something and that guy with the 30 k$ in ships cloned himself so he can fly all his 50+ ships at the same time ? It does not matter if he has the equivalent of 5.5 years of in game work in his hangar - he cannot himself use all of them at the same time.
To the contrary ... he lets others use his ships. Which in my experience is typical for those players that have many ships.
"My orgmates and I sit in Teamspeak, streaming on Twitch, I get six to
seven viewers constantly—I know that’s not many, but through the night
it’ll go up to fifteen to twenty viewers—sitting in Twitch with me, and
since I have everything, my channel title is ‘Hangar Tours and Test
Drives.’ People get on Twitch and go “Hey, can I see that ship?” and I’m
like, “Yeah! Log in.” Because you can log into the free flight alpha
module with me, and I’ll bust out the ship they wanted to play with,
I’ll go land on the dock, I’ll get out and go, “Go take it for a test
flight! Go take it, I’ll sit here and read the news while you’re flying
my ship around.” It’s just a lot of camaraderie like that. Just a lot of
fun."
Many player orgs SPECIFICALLY offer ships to their members as a sign-up bonus. Ships that have been donated by org members with many ships.

I fail to see how you refute his claim of someone having a 5.5 year lead. All you did was repost the story of the guy who spent 30k.
I mean you tried, you really did. Your first paragraph if you left it at that would have sufficed but then you wrote your second paragraph and more or less contradicted your first paragraph and then agreed with @rpmcmurphy. You should get some more sleep since you seem to be making mistakes lately.

Makes you think don't it?
So wait, you guys can condemn an aspect of a game that isn't written yet, yet it's different when someone does the opposite? So from here on out it's safe to say you guys will not be making statements about balance like you are now, as there is no game to discuss?

I don't why you're throwing around the term "you guys" when its only one person voicing his opinion. That sounds like you're trying to tar everybody with the same brush.

Is this where you start getting silly? Assets are assets regardless of whether you use them all at once or singly. You wouldn't argue that 5.5 years of UEC can't be spent all at once would you... That you try to paint this off as inconsequential just shows how far you're willing to go in apologising for CIG.
Well, at least it's not as scummy as what Frontier are doing with Elite: Dangerous.
If existing buyers are still getting S42, I'm totally fine with this change. Secures them more revenue to sustain the game in future, and you are still getting a full separate game out of it.
Hell, if there's both a S42 and SC $30 discount package, it's still the standard AAA game price of $60 for both the single player and multiplayer games.

To the contrary ... he lets others use his ships. Which in my experience is typical for those players that have many ships.

"My orgmates and I sit in Teamspeak, streaming on Twitch, I get six to seven viewers constantly—I know that’s not many, but through the night it’ll go up to fifteen to twenty viewers—sitting in Twitch with me, and since I have everything, my channel title is ‘Hangar Tours and Test Drives.’ People get on Twitch and go “Hey, can I see that ship?” and I’m like, “Yeah! Log in.” Because you can log into the free flight alpha module with me, and I’ll bust out the ship they wanted to play with, I’ll go land on the dock, I’ll get out and go, “Go take it for a test flight! Go take it, I’ll sit here and read the news while you’re flying my ship around.” It’s just a lot of camaraderie like that. Just a lot of fun."
Many player orgs SPECIFICALLY offer ships to their members as a sign-up bonus. Ships that have been donated by org members with many ships.
Have fun
I mean you tried, you really did. Your first paragraph if you left it at that would have sufficed but then you wrote your second paragraph and more or less contradicted your first paragraph and then agreed with @rpmcmurphy. You should get some more sleep since you seem to be making mistakes lately.
