Boost for extra in match xp advantage in a competitive game? Nice!!! Is there a new term for going lower than the lowest?

If one player uses a boost it benefits everyone.

It doesnt change any in game mechanics, doesn't make you hit harder or anything.

    Whats the problem here?

Ok let's see this : Team A 4 players use xp boost, Team B only 1 player uses boost. We know that the boosts stack, so team A has huge xp boost over Team B, what happens to team B now? They are behind xp curve and by leveling up faster Team A has more power to finish off B. So you tell me what's the problem here.

This is a moba - so leveling and xp do not affect power of characters you play.

    Do you not understand this?

Xp boost has zero relevance inside a match, it helps you unlock other characters costumes and such outside matches.

A team that is boosts 4 times vs a a team that has no xp boosts - in actual match there is zero difference, again because these boosts do not affect character power.

Mobas are about gameplay balance - anything that would directly affect gameplay would break the game completely.

    They didn't do that.

The article says the boost is "inside game". But you are describing is like the outside game boost of SMITE which has no effect inside game. Just imagine what happens in a smite game if one team has all gods at 15 and opponent are all 8. That is what this boost is going to do, unless what is written in article is wrong or worded wrongly.

    Here read it again:

"They’ve also added the first steps of progression – XP and levels unlock rewards, banners, character styles, prestige cosmetics, and more. None of the progression effects the competitive layer, it’s all just about showing off how much or how well you play a character."

See that line that says "none of the progression affects the competitive layer" (effects is the wrong word, yes I corrected it)

This is the part i am talking about :

"Boosts, one Atlas Reactor’s main forms of cash transaction (since the game will be F2P) are in for testing as well. Since everyone will be given some currency to spend, the team is hoping people love toying with Boosts. They have a twist, you see – if you use one on a match, sure you get a boost to XP gain, but so does everyone else on the team. If someone else also uses one, it stacks. If your whole team does, even bigger. If all 8 players across all teams do, it’s an even bigger boost for everyone. You can use the boost at any time during a match, and the idea is to let everyone share in the rewards received from using them. There’s no specific cost tied to them yet, but Trion assured us they’ll be cheap, because they wany people using them a lot and enjoying the bonuses received from their use.  Additionally, you’ll get plenty through completing contracts and progression rewards too."

Now it says that it can be bought inside match and it stacks for team. And then again says if 8 players of both team do it there is bonus for everyone. So is this wrongly worded or wrong info? If the boost being used inside match is right then does boost apply for both team if one player uses it or just his or her team? And if it is only for 1 team then do you understand where the other team stands?

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

Worst thing a developer can do is jump onto Blizzard's ship.

Cheap low end graphics, trying to be cute "WS" rather than good, are just ideas that will push gamer's away and attract the little kids.

Seems Trion sadly with some success on Trove is going to just give up on Triple A game design and go for the Blizzard Indie approach.

The graphics alone are enough to steer me far far away,i don't want to feel like i am 12 anymore,23 maybe but not 12.

Can't say I disagree with you.

Are the unlockable characters better than the starter characters?

In terms of power - no.

In terms of "what suits better for your playstyle" - quite possibly. Like if you want a specific look/feel - like ranged support or frontline defense etc... it's quite possible that you will need to unlock that character.

It's very much like other MOBAs that are based around unlocking characters - it's varying characters that have pros and cons - but overall they are all the same composite score. Example if you have a character that has high damage - usually it has low defense to balance out.

Thanks for the speedy response, i'll have to check out the website. If it's similar to xcom i'll give it a go.

I love Duelyst, if this is similar but with better graphics and a team vs team it should be great as well.

LoL also has XP boost. You get to level 30 faster (your account) and has no effect inside the match.

Default characters aren't designed weaker than the locked ones. But all MOBAs have meta champs that are overpowered, this usually changes in every major patch. Also having a larger pool of characters helps you pick specific counter characters against the enemies whom have already made their pick.

Ok so yeah - again the stacking boosts in game mode do not affect actual match at all - they affect XP gain which is something that is applied to your 'account' - not the characters you select during gameplay.

What they affect is how much XP you are getting during the match so if all 8 players use a boost (4 on your team including you and 4 on opposing team) - everyone gets crazy high XP during the match..

XP is an "account wide" attribute - it unlocks characters, costumes etc.... it does NOT unlock anything that would make your characters more powerful.

    Does that make sense?

What the article failed to explain clearly what XP is in Atlas Reactor - it's not like XP in MMORPGs where a higher level means more powerful character.

Ohhh ok, so wrong wording in article. Thanks for explaining. It is perfectly alright then. It is like boosts in other moba but only will be more expensive since players will need to buy it every match to get more account xp from each match instead of a solid 3 day or 7 day boosts.

This actually looks really cool and unique, although I don't believe Trion will be able to pull it off. Success would require a team of talented PvP designers and no seedy monetization. Neither is exactly Trion's forte.

Educate on how unique this is?

Lol, no need to do that, the game speaks for itself.

As an avid Dota2 and xcom player I am all over this.

At least you can't say that it's a LoL ripoff, or Overwatch clone.

Actually what Moba did they clone? Hmm?

They have not cloned any MOBA previously done. It is more a mix of Battle chess, Fallout Tactics and Megalomaniac.

Recommend all steer clear of this company. This game as all their others is a Pay to Win and frankly they have zero customer respect. If you like carnivals then these are carnies for you. You are not a customer you are a mark in their eyes.

    Haha

This game is pay to win you say?

Can you give us details about how an alpha game that is nowhere near realease, that is not taking any payments .... is pay to win?

This is some next level sorcery right there.
That's just usual Trion hate train zealotry. At this point i think Trion have more haters than SC has backers...

I played the alpha before and as someone who doesn't normally like PvP I think this game has potential. I like that it's more strategic and not reliant on twitch reflexes.

The games does have potential but with all the stuff Trion been doing it's going be a very hard sell. They are tons people will not even try it as trust with Trion been broken to many times.

Moba players don't even know who Trion is.

Gamers a fickle lot - how many of my friends have hate EA and bashed them with every breath swearing they'll never touch another product that is even remotely associated with EA.

It didn't mean a thing for every new EA release - they still bought it heh.
This not like any moba why I think it haves potential same as DC the Moba it had potential but it had a lack of player base. But what Trion haves been doing with their games lately it will come to question on the trust of the company not being too shady what they do to gain the player base needed. Unless Trion not trying get in to the E-sports then it will not be a problem for a small player base that still trust the company.

But anyhow I like the game is all about thinking then about how fast you can click that button and does open the door for more people with other set of skill.

Thing is this game is nothing like a moba. I dont think i would even classify it as a moba. Its a turn based team based pvp game. I recently got access for the weekend its actually a lot of fun. characters selection and costumes laid out like blizzards heroes of the storm  where there is a rotating heroes that are free. Use in game currency or paid currency to unlock characters and skins. Alot of fun, if its a f2p tittle it will do very well and my opinion finally a turn based online game. Been playing all nite since i got access. worth looking into if you have a chance to play it
  • volttvoltt Member UncommonPosts: 432
wait not only pvp can play vs comp solo, or with friends vs ai bots to
  • ShaighShaigh Member EpicPosts: 2,150
Tried the alpha/beta or whatever you want to call it. Its an interesting idea, although I prefer the action version of the game. Still find it nice that there are companies that don't just copy everyone else's idea on how to make a moba and dare to do something different.
