Old Accounts... 10 posts

IkedaIkeda Member RarePosts: 2,751
Seriously...

If you've got an account that is legitimately 10-15 years old... and you've only got 10,15, 30,50 posts here.  That breaks down to a max of 5 posts a year which is laughable given the scale of what is discussed on this website.

I just point this out as someone started a "you must have been here for 10 years" post but when you start looking at people history/post count its laughable.

What defines a leecher?  I feel like it's someone who takes from the community and doesn't contribute.  At all.  Isn't less than 5-10 posts a year that in a nutshell?

So these people have accounts, but only show up when something is being given away.  Seems like sea gulls to me.

Maybe it's just my sour grapes...

    It kind of "is".

I've been going to the Escapist for years but must have a max of 5 posts there.

With Bethesda's Elder Scrolls forums I must have about 50 tops? And this is from wayyyy back.

Sometimes people really are just there to read up on things.

Idk, Im nearing 10 years on this account (had one before that I lost the login info for), been coming to the site much longer. I think Im just barely over 400. Some people like to read the articles, and just have no desire to embed themselves in arguments. Or are just careful about what topics they participate in.

If you are not new to the site, you already know almost every game has the same 3 or 4 topics repeated again and again. I see no reason to repeat the same discussions or arguments about whats P2W or how good or bad PVP is, or "game is the worst launch ever...." ect.

Participating in flame wars or feeding the trolls on these forums just to ramp up your post numbers does not contribute to this site in any meaningful way .
Quality over quantity- a mantra that should be embraced by many forum posters.

Besides- have you considered the fact that this is actually a mmo news portal and not reddit?

Well you made me dust off my account to post! I think it's been over a year. Personally I just like to come by and read the articles and occasional post from time to time. I sort of stopped posting once I got sucke into FFXIV

This is not true for a lot of people probably.  Some people just like to read what others think.  I rarely post myself.  Been more actively lately because I am home and bored a lot.  Hell I roll out of my seat laughing at what some people post.

I am sure there are a few accounts that are created just for giveaways because there is nothing wrong with them doing that to be honest.  Having a high post count doesn't mean your post are worth while.

I frequented this forum long before I ever even made an account on it. I never posted here, and when I do is/was usually a pissy post pointing how certain people, such as yourself are clowns.

I used to frequent this website because it had good/relevant articles about the games at the time, unlike today. It's now turned in to a more reddit-esque style cesspool.

While better now, for a (long) while, the moderation on these forums more resembled Reddit, than anything civilised.  There are a lot of users who just will not comment, and I don't blame them (I'm one)

I'm a leecher by your definition. I mainly come here every few days just to get news and maybe check out a few of the current forum posts, which is how I found this gem of a post.

I'm 10+ years and this should be my 100th post, that's less than 1 post per month, and I find my self replying to this shit.

I mainly don't post because decent topics seem to always turn into a thread of people insulting each other, but congratulations! You managed to cut through all the shit and just start insulting people right away... for a petty reason.

How is someone reading this website "leeching"?

Leeching = slowly taking something away.

Now, if there were loads of users coming to the site and each one was somehow magically able to remove a single letter from a post or features, that'd be leeching.

Simply reading the site and not posting is probably a good thing. More readers = more hits on the ads = more revenue for MMORPG.com = site stays up.

I don't see any problem with people coming here and not posting.  Maybe they feel they have nothing to contribute but like to hear about what is happening with games or how others feel about them. I remember I was here more than a year before I posted anything.

I had an older account but after some time away couldn't remember for the life of me what it is to log back into it so made the account I currently use.  I read more than post unless I'm making Greedmonger jokes.

I'm what you have described, partially. Going on 9 years now, and I hardly post. I visit the site almost daily, read whatever is in the forum slot on the front page. Check out different games, and the general impressions others have of said games. It would be all to easy to get involved with the pissing contests and flame wars and repetitive forum postings that get recycled every so often.

I do enter a contest on occasion, but I haven't "won" anything in years. I think the last time was back in '09.

I think someone REALLY wanted that BDO key huh?

Well, there are so many people out there with issues and opinions that are formed from really hateful places that all those can be ignored,.

Any posts merit should be based on the content non on how many posts a person has.

I explained quite clearly that I figured my reaction was probably sour grapes.

And I do agree with most of the posts.  The forums DO get bogged down with repetitive forum wars.  Even I have stepped back from.  And I personally like a good argument because, while I'm not always right, it's sometimes interesting to pique the other sides brain to understand their reasoning.

It's also quite nice seeing some of the "older" people chiming in.  You do exist and you do read these so I suppose you've vindicated the argument in my eyes just because you do pay attention, even if you aren't necessarily directly involved in the conversations.

I come here to see the news, and, yes, to jump in on the giveaways when they look good. I have been here more than 10 years and I've seen every variation on "games suck now" already, so I don't feel the need to get involved in all that. I just play the games I like when I have the chance and don't get my panties all in a bunch about anything these days.

If I have a philosophical thought about mmorpgs, I'll be back to post it... Knowing full well that 15 other people said the same thing already.

    ...

    I agree 100%.

For instance, I have 1.2k posts. The vast majority of those are "throwaway" posts. No content at all. Droning borefests at best. Rambling on and on. Basically just connected breath dumps spoken through a keyboard. Look at my post history, I dare ya.

BUT, I still deserved that BDO key! I was only 4 months away from 10 years! :(

I love it when people thinking the "post" count means jack...

Almost 10 years here... and 325 posts... most of them come in large chunks...

Maybe I just never found much that was worth commenting on..
