I post in spurts then fade away for a while. Gonna be 10 yrs soon and it says more to me on how time flies than anything relevant concerning this site or my hobby. No offense Mmorpg.
I almost never post but have been reading forum posts every day for many years. I generally prefer to look for posts from people's opinions that I respect like Kano.
I suppose I could be using the new insightful/agree/awesome/LoL buttons on people posts though.
I have been here for many years and only have 1k+ posts. That's because I just read most of the threads and someone almost always posts what I am thinking and puts it much better than I feel I would. Also like others have said a lot of the threads here are just the same old arguments over and over again.
I've been on this site since 2004, although that account has long been forgotten. I do not post regularly on this account as MMORPG has changed drastically from the old days when it felt like the Wild West. Moderation was very limited and fear of suspensions and bannings were few and far between. Now, I watch what I say and only give luke warm opinions.
I believe that if people leave the personal insults out of the equation, the few and far between still rings true.
"Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people", Eleanor Roosevelt.
I would presume that the above would be largely dependent on the idea, event, or person being discussed, and the context in which it is being dicussed. I've been witness to many discussions that involved great minds discussing people, and small minds discussing ideas, and average minds discussing all of the above. All should be equally encouraged..
What defines a leecher? I feel like it's someone who takes from the community and doesn't contribute. At all. Isn't less than 5-10 posts a year that in a nutshell?
I dunno. I just figured them for readers and observers. Never really considered them "leeching" anything.

Just because I don't feel the need to post on every single subject doesn't make me a leecher. I come to this site everyday and read the forums or news.
Maybe some, like myself just like to lurk. And who cares if some doesn't care to post. It is their right to lurk and post when they want to, not when you think they should.
MMORPG gives the content away, if they want to add some guidelines to the contest, then that is up to them. Obviously the people that run this site don't care. So why should you? Because you aren't winning? Or is it that there is more competition and you are afraid of that?
You may want to recheck your Cheerios as someone may have pissed in them.
I visit many forums/gaming sites, and this is the only one where i actively post. I dont see the problem with having an old account and enjoy all the content without ever talking.

In topics where I have little interest or knowledge, I'm a quiet listener.
I behave this way because I know I have more to gain by listening on the topic than by speaking. One generally gains very little knowledge by speaking, except in the act of organizing one's thoughts on a subject. But if you don't already have good knowledge of a topic you're not going to become knowledgable just by speaking on it. You're only going to become knowledgable by listening.
So it's completely fine for lurkers not to post.
I'm sure many lurkers are knowledgable and would have interesting insights if they shared. However many aren't knowledgable and would only result in noisy spam if they were guilted into posting. That wouldn't be good for the community.
(This is without hitting the more obvious point that it's dumb to even try to guilt people into posting, as it won't work anyway :P)

Some community members lurk and read, while others post actively on the forums. All members of our community are valuable to us and it's never too late for a long time lurker to become an active member of the community.
