A beautiful game, but when you get down to it, very lacking in content.  I give most people 6 months and they will be bored with it.

If I can get 6 months out of this game, then its money well spent. I cant remember the last MMO that kept me longer than a month at a time. The same ole stuff copied and pasted in every MMO gets old. I like that this game tries to be different. I like that there is no traditional endgame. I like that there is so much micromanaging. To each their own. If people want the same ole dungeons/raids endgame to keep them busy, then there are plenty of games out there to choose from.

Well once he hits 45 and actually has something to say on the matter I'm sure he will. Anyone who buys a game without researching it first only has themselves to blame. MMORPG.com is only here to give an opinion on if the game is good or not, not to rundown a list of features.

Genderlock? No thanks. If I can't play the character I want, then it's not an RPG. It's a "sandbox" but they said I can only play with this toy this way, because things. :/

    Edit: I make typos.

Actually it's arguably more of an RPG if they have a specific race/gender locked character with it's own backstory and you play as that character. It's much closer to how single player RPG's work - in many of those, you choose a preset character and are taken through their storyline. You play the role of someone else who has a specific part in the game's story.

I'm with you in preferring more open character creation, but I don't think the RPG argument really works here. :P

P.S. By the way, someone wrote that houses, though instanced, are limited and have to be bought via player auctions after all are taken ? This is nonsense, right ? Please says so, because I doubt I could compete with no lifers and their huge amounts of ingame money. I searched the internet but it is hard to find reliable info about this.
Yes it's nonsense. You buy them via the in game map using Contribution points (which are gained via questing and used as an investment, meaning once you "sell" whatever you purchased with those points, you get all of those points back). It's incredibly easy to buy a house and you'll need many of them for different purposes (worker housing, player housing, crafting, warehouse space). You can buy as many as you want and they're phased to each player so everyone can own the same houses.

I hope we'll be getting an indepth-review considering all systems that does the game justice and not another shallow "i haven't had the time to..." skim over.

Well unfortunately we get a lot of hype like I did here in this forum in fact before I really started digging on the workings and I am sure those that will not even take time to read a web page about preorder are going to spend 40 to 50 hours digging for the information. It is not features it is about internal mechanics and functionality which are going to be a big disappointment to many people later.

I being one of those arm chair indies that tries to build one of these so called sandboxes has more interest than reading a web page about preorder and failing it.

Up front until the OP gets to 51 he will not have a real grasp of how bad this game is for grind because each level get 2 times more grind and by 53 100,000 kills takes more than a day to accomplish.

Just have to love all those unsubstantiated haters on here and on twitch all of the fucking time, they do nothing but shit on something they have no knowledge about.

This game is amazing, looks amazing, plays amazing and has shittons of features that everyone is currently only starting to comprehend, its insane!

BUT FUCK, NO RAIDS ? WORST GAME EVER AMIRITE ? People are so damn brainwashed and used to run of the mill crappy 3 monthly raid content that they can NOT live with anything else I can't get my head around it, I just can't.

People say that it will only last 6 months ? Fuck me, I'd pay lots more than 30$ for 6 months of entertainment, you goddamn loonies.

Mmorpg.com said something positive about this game....uh oh, people here are going to totally freak the $%&@ out
lmao  this is just a sponsored running advert,we would EXPECT nothing but positive. Some people are still not clued in to articles and reviews here.I have been out of school for 35 years,i would hope people are more clued in than me,especially when so transparent.

Ever see any reviews or information on the Uncharted series here?Only one of the baddest games out there and from one of the best developers out there,go figure right?Yet this site sees fit that cheap budget games like Trove and Crowfall need to be spammed every second third day.

You think raiding won't be a part of the game? This is called FAST rushed and manipulative game release.

They are withholding some of the game from the Korean release so they can sell it to you lmao.

    Here is your raid.

With players as they are, even the best games will only have, at best, six months before they move on.

How sad is that raid, the map ,well might not as well even have a map just a square box. They were too lazy to even have the lava effect animated and the boss seems to stand in one spot the entire time.SPAM SPAM SPAM lmao  pretty intuitive combat.

It would take someone about 10 minutes to make that map and plot the Boss down, that kind of effort is very sad imo.

@billmurphy I am very interested in hearing your opinions on PvP penalties, the cash shop and pay to win items (if any), and anything related to the game's original vision compared to its current mechanics.

Comparable to ArcheAge? I hope that doesn't mean it's a game ruined by hacks, exploits, bots, and cheaters. Can anyone comment?

I honestly can't review a game based off "Gameplay" "Sound" "Graphics" or "Innovation" when it failed at launch things they should have done but never did...

. Installing XingCode3, and forcing it on pre-order players without telling them.

. Not being able to reserve my name because every name is taken 16 character max, no last name system even though I could reserve that. Basically players have names with Xx, and Numbers at the end of their names now rather than "Name + Family Name".

.Not informing players who purchased after pre-sales that they couldn't play in headstart.

. Failure to inform players about costumes being bound to a single character.

Over-All, I could never ever consider such a good game unless a company made up for these mistakes, I would leave a fat zero on any review I would give a game, there are better games than Black Desert as it is unless they can put in a last name system, and remove the XingCode3 spyware its a dead game in my eyes, and the bots make it even worse even though anyone can do it it proves the game security obviously only burdens legit players.
. And last the lack of Customer Service, or Replies by the Developers on the forums with answers and such.

Those things that you say BDO is lacking is what, for many of us, makes BDO such a welcome and refreshing alternative to the hundreds of clones featuring that same end game content.  All I can say is hallelujah to the fact that BDO doesn't have raids, dungeons, battlegrounds, arenas etc.  Those are game features that remove players from a vibrant world resulting in worlds that are empty, lifeless, boring and frankly not worth living in.
Yes BD will have "many" that will love it for that very reason, but the vast majority will start criticizing it very soon when they find out that BD has actually very little meaningful content.

Sure some might say that "sandbox" MMO's don't need any kind of content updates, but there is a reason why these kind of MMOs can't compete with the "themepark"  MMOs at all. Usually once you are 100 hours into these kind of games you've seen it all, and you just kinda RP till the end of your life. However BD doesn't fall into either category, it's both sandbox and themepark, it's supposed to deliver on both ends, and currently it's not doing a very good job at it.

As a sandbox MMO it's in a solid place, some features and systems are exceptional, though far from perfect. If they'd concentrate on making it 100% sandbox, the game would have been way better. But as a themepark it doesn't offer anything at all. Quests are garbage, especially with the newer MMOs featuring very good voice acting and story writing (ESO, SWTOR). There is no option to level through dungeons. If you want to enjoy BD you need to love grinding, and well most players don't..

I just think many players now days just don't know how to play in a sandbox.

I like sandboxes so long as they're full of toys i.e. EVE.
BDO is lacking PVE content in a massive way. It's all about the PVP in BDO. I love PVP, but tacking on an endless mob grind, RNG gear progression, and massive power discrepancies is not my idea of a good time. Especially since I'm going to have to compete with the poopsockers who play 24/7.

    Best Sandbox MMO ever made!

Sandbox, themepark, sandpark, themebox, whatever. Does it matter ?

I think what we all can agree about is that is actually an MMO. Doesn't happen often these days.  ;)

There is no max level in BDO.
And even if there were a max level. In which MMO released the last years din't you see a max level (this time real one) in a couple of days maximum ?

Man, I do net even want to defend BDO. But please, don't spread false info.

LOL. Watching a stream last night cuz I was bored. The guy ran for 2 hours at 50 trying to get to 51 and I think he may have gotten (MAYBE) 5% of the level.

At 51 it is twice as hard as 50, level 52 is twice as hard a 51, etc...

With 55 being the soft cap before the real grind comes in. Just LOL

Level 55 to 60 is `700 hours of grind.

Some people don't research their games and go on hype.
