No its not.... i have been wayting for a game like this for to long... we obviously like different games.. But i for one do not tell other people their opinions are wrong.

Now go back to a game forum of a game that you are actually interested in. You missed the whole point of my declaration and this game.. The game is not for everyone, nothing is easy in this world everything takes time, and with time investment comes the reward of accomplishment.

i do hope they keep it the way it is now without hand holding. I'm having a lot of fun not knowing what to do and figuring things out the hard way. Haven't had that feeling in years in mmos. And i haven't started crafting yet, that one is even scarier. I like it.

It is pretty glorious! I've been having a blast with it. Everything ranging from the gameplay, to the absolutely gorgeous world makes it well worth the investment.

I thought I liked the way cities are done in this game. Like Velia & Heidel, a good looking village and small city, but I hadn't seen anything like Calpheon... Holy crap! I was blown away by the size, activity and authenticity. The market alone is like nothing I've ever seen before in an MMO. Just walking down the length of it trying to find the arms dealer that sells Yuria weapons (after you get his amity up to 500) you really feel the crowd around you.

And all the extra non-essential detail: a multi-story workshop with a outdoor lift and about 40 workers crammed in there at their workstations... or the lunch stall in the market with an NPC sitting down turning the crank on a spit roasting a pig. The attention to detail is on scale I've never seen before.

I heard 99% of the fights are easy as hell. I tried the version in Japan and it seemed pretty typical. Didn't get out of the starter town. The world looks like Earth from what I saw too, not saying Earth isn't beautiful, but I have seen better there too.

I experienced that in CBT1. Now at launch i realised, with a fully fledged action combat i shouldnt be killing one mob at a time like in tab target mmos. Tried pulling 10-15 mobs, died a few times but it was glorious, bloody, and quite enjoyable. And pulling even more than that with a small party.

As to the world feeling alive...yesterday i watched a stream and while the streamer was running to another city, on the main road he literally run into one of his workers that was on his way to an outpost with his wares and goods. Now, that was one of an unexpected surprise!

In so many games you send your companions on tasks and all there is to it is just a minigame played in the UI, as you never actually see them do anything. Eventually they "return" with some loot, a mission log pops up and that's it. Virtual workers on top of an already virtual world.
So great that in BDO your folks are actually present and busy in the game-world (I wonder if they can be killed or get robbed).

I heard that the same goes for your twinks in some way...if you send them somewhere, your main can meet them while they are on their way.

I can't log out... My eyes hurt... I'm addicted to a game again for the first time in years...

There is just SO MUCH. It really is a world. Tons of people doing activities other than "trying to hit max level". It just feels good.

9/10 game, lost a point because I haven't got decent sleep in 4 days.

I thought the first few cities were awesome and populated.  I went to Calpheon yesterday at level 30 to get my Yuria weapon. My mind exploded.  Holy sh** is right. The castle city is exponentially more epic than you can imagine.  I almost got sidetracked turbo reading all the books in the library for the energy bonus.  Then I remembered I was there to parlay for my upgradable Yuria.

Got my Yuria, dropped a couple black stones to enhance it to +2, and then whisked waaay back to the area I was in before.  I do enough damage now that makes me feel powerful and still feel the fear of being 2 shot if I don't dodge right.

Mine sadly is sitting in my pack unused because I have a better (for now) staff. I'm level 26 and I've had 8 armor black stones drop for me and not a single weapon one. And they don't even last 15 seconds in the AH when one makes it there lol.

I wish it captivated me remotely as much as it did others. It just... didn't click with me at all during testing. It doesn't seem bad, but it just felt 'meh' for me.

Then again people gushed about GW2 and I found that game to be mediocre with a weak combat system and weak general gameplay loop, so it could just be me.

GW2 was absurdly overrated, I hope the fanboi's have it right this time with BDO. I could see the labor system in itself destroying immersion.
  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662
I haven't played BDO yet so I don't know if what I'm going to say is better on this game but in Archeage my personal problem with the labor system was that endgame crafting costed far too much labor for a single piece! A single piece of equipment!

Loot also costing labor to open purses! Mining costing labor and so on and so forth.

I don't know how extensive the energy system in BDO is, but I hope is not as bad as in archeage where you had to always play around the labor system to do anything. At least in BDO you can make energy potions from your alts and/or buying them in an AH that has fixed pricing so that's something.

It's like you took sections of popular complaints and put them together in a single sentence. So bizarre. Anyway, the 'energy' pool, which is similar to labor, regens pretty quickly, especially if you have a bed in a house.

Also your alts passively regen energy and use an account wide pool, so it should never really be a problem.

Or maybe it's just because NPCs have scripted movement instead of standing at the same spot 24/7.

Great thread, and thank you everyone who shared their positive experiences in game, really has been helpful in my evaluation whether I'll one day try this game.

Strongly leaning towards it now. (I so love a good virtual world)

I'm similarly intrigued by all these glowing praises of BDO's sandbox and "virtual world" features and "deep" gameplay.

I remain highly sceptical though, and given that it's only a week or so since release, I think I'll hold off for a month or two and see how the opinions change. Honeymoon is honeymoon... :D

I agree to an extent but after lasting for over 6 months playing Archeage with barely pvping I can understand their point of view.

That is why this game interests me. It has a lot of stuff to do besides leveling and gearing up to pvp.

I've been wanting to play a MMO that is immersive as the last time I felt that way was in WoW (not my first MMO either).

I'm wanting to like Black Desert. But the more I research about it. The more and more I'm starting to dislike it.

When I first heard about the game. Gender locked classes were an instant turn off. I know there are 'counter parts.' But that's only for a couple and not all.

Deciding to look pass the gender locked classes. Even though there have been people praising the character creation. It's actually extremely restrictive. Your wizard is going to be an old guy no matter what. Your warrior is going to be a guy in his 30s no matter what. etc.

Very well. Maybe, just maybe I can live with that. What's the game's content like? It has poor dialogue and story telling off the get go (Can probably thank Korean translation for that). Animations are sloppy and not fluid (eg. spotted a lot of walking animations where they're not in sync with their speed and just looks odd).

Leveling? Hope you like grinding mobs because questing is an inefficient way of doing so.

PVP? If you're the person that likes to PVP when they want to and PVE at your leisure. Also a big black spot with PVP being non-consensual.

    PVE end game? Non-existent.

Game has struck out for me sadly.

Now I am not trying to be Mr Negative but I just don't see how this game feels more like a world than a game.  If I was the only player in the area and I just walked around, yea, it feels like a world. The UI being so minimalistic helps, we'll at least at 1440p the ui isn't that noticeable. Once I see other characters most of my immersion breaks due to most of them looking like clones. Entering combat also reminds me I'm in a game, considering all the flashy effects of even the most simple attacks.

Don't get me wrong, so far the combat is fun for me. My reservations are mainly directed toward the many many clones running around. Any 20 wizards in the room look like a huge extended family gathering. Also I don't like the lack of choice when designing a character. It's not just that every wizard visiby appears like every other wizard, they also use the exact same weapon and will have the same skills.  So far I don't see much of a way to different tate characters of a specific class in combat but I am new to the game and may be missing something.

I like making specialist characters and doing things that others choose not to. When I see a wizard tossing every element around it bothers me because I don't want to be that guy. I want to create my own build and come up with a theme and focus the character around it. I'd like to make an ice witch who never casts anything but ice spells but if it isn't possible or it gimps me drastically then I m more inclined to not play at all.

TLDR: I want choice and so far I'm not seeing it...
