AA BDO both use energy ,VERY few games do that so i would say pretty close to the same. Both use arrows on the ground as hand holding guides again not many do that but yes some.IMO both are very similar just putting VERY slight twists on game play.
As to PVE then PVP pretty much yep.Sad really,i compared it to Wow's poor game design. Why would you lead players in one direction then completely change direction after they already spent weeks ,months in your game.
The PVE is not even good either,it is corner cutting cheapness, you call some dark being to get your quests,so basically auto questing on the fly.The nodes and investment is so badly organized without proper guidance/help your completely lost because you come across nodes and have no clue what to do with them. Also they start nodes early on but in reality you won't be able to use them until AFTER you pass the first several nodes.
There is just sooooo much wrong with the design,it is ARPG combat,it is PVE then it's not, then it's PVP.You have to memorize tons of button combinations,i don't remember walking around in my life ever having to memorize button combinations. It should be a MUCH more fluent design on combat as well the mouse should be usable at all times,it is a VERY cumbersome UI.Definitely built around a controller but not all controller's are supported, mine doesn't work and it work's on every game i have ever tired it and yes i have it enabled in game lol.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
There are about 10 things BDO does pretty good but about 50 that are just bad game design, meaning they still could be decent ideas if implemented better.

Roughly translated as, "BDO does some things pretty good, but there is stuff that I don't like so it must be badly designed."

Or "BDO has lots of faults but has stuff that I like so it must be well designed" your "translation" only shows your bias ironically.
Can the Asians not make any MMOs except shallow grinders? Final Fantasy excluded.
Asians are in the market to make games that make money with minimal effort. FFXI, even though it had its flaws, was a really well thought out game. Sadly the same can't be said for FFXIV. One could blame the team, which is partly true but its also the company as well with condensing the size of the team. More companies (asian companies) are doing the same thing. Less members you have on a team means the less perspectives you have leading to a mindless project most times. BDO is really just a genderlocked version of AA with no healing class but better graphics and not as annoying of a point system (labor/energy) compared to AA.
People just keep throwing out Asian stereotypes for their MMOs hoping one will stick eventually.
FFXIV was well done. I personally didn't like it, but the second iteration of the game (the one we have now) is successful.
I don't think you realistically look at FFXIV, Black Desert, Blade and Soul (at least where the combat systems are concerned), or hell even AA and say to yourself:
Man these Asian devs really don't put much effort into their MMOs.
Black Desert especially is not a game anyone in their right mind would think was hastily thrown together.
The truth is Asian games have a long history of incredible detail and originality in their games, going back to my good ol Nintendo days. From innovations in gameplay, graphics, combat, music scores- basically anything you can think of- Asians have made some really fantastic video games.
I will pvp in BDO but quite rarely. The game is mostly pve also at endgame! Granted that pve is there to build power for pvp encounters and since gear >>skill you can't really skip it. If you're effective in enough in pve (which would probably make up 90+% of your time in game at end game) your gear will carry you in pvp, so you don't have to be super skilled to do well.
I've watched various streams for days and the game indeed has some quite deep systems, still i can't help but notice that now after a couple of days, every streamer actually does pretty much the same thing he did for days now.
Kill mobs, run down that dirt road, connect nodes, do your trading metagame, 10 - 45...
If i skip a stream for a day or two and check back in again, nothing has really changed except for the level in the upper left corner and i find the player and his game still rolling the same way as i left both two days ago. Watching a themepark, at least you can see that after two days a guy has changed gear, got some new stuff on the action bar, left the wasteland and has now entered the forest and perhaps run into some new folks along the way.
I guess it'll get more interesting when the game gets more top heavy and PvP/guild life starts to matter. But so far and until about level 40, player's daily activities, scenery and overall game from 10 to 40 doesn't seem to have changed alot with the levels.
So i guess that it's either the game becoming repetitive rather soon or that a huge chunk of the playerbase just needs more time to get rid of their themepark mindset, get off the beaten track and not play BDO like
they have played their WoW clones for years.

The same exact thing has kept me from purchasing. I love pvping but do I really feel like killing a million mobs to get to it? By the time I hit cap in AA we already established it was P2W, Will this game even be alive and kicking in a few weeks? You never know nowadays.
You can build a massive trading empire and rule the world
What is the point to have a Trading Empire and how you can Rule the World if you CANNOT Use your resources and Silver/Gold to Trade with anyone besides those fixed prices in the marketplace that even that has a very short limit of how much you can put in... you can be a Ruler maybe against the Trading NPC's. I can't See a game that is kinda sandbox-y Can work without direct player2player Trade. afraid of Goldsellers? be the Goldseller like in GW2 and now even WoW and u r OK.
Like I said, I don't mind dying in PvP, but I just generally suck at it. Does that matter in BDO? Or is it all a zergfest where skill doesn't matter anyway?
Each death results in loss of XP - which at higher levels could be 20min + of grinding time, so it's generally a bad thing in BD to die - and since the XP gain post 50 goes up exponentially dying at late level 50s is BAD.
Example 2% XP loss at level 59 = 20 hours of AoE grinding to get it back
yeah....
Ugh, that sounds awful.
Once you get to 45 and PvP enabled just stay flagged up. You don't lose experience if flagged.
I've been playing a few days, and I've noticed there is no lag. Even when the screen is filled with characters and their mounts and pets. The game has never crashed on me. The scenery is beautiful and just running around is fun. Pretty impressive.
I have been through the whole threadmill of new themepark mmo, searching for that new home. I've seen them all, played for a couple of months and then deinstalled them, most of them anyway. All the triple A titles since WoW have been mostly a copy and paste production of that one.
But this one is different.
I didn't play the beta and when I logged on for the first time I really didn't know what to do. I really didn't have a clue. For the first time since I can't remember I ran around in this beautiful world, without a clue on where to go and what to do. And i loved it. It felt like this whole sandbox belonged to me.
I had to create my own personal quest. What did I want to do? So I went fishing and started to ponder my situation.
Now after 2 days and 11 hours, at level 21 I have a meaningful goal. My mission is to create my own fishing boat and travel the sea as a fisherman. Now I have workers lumbering birch trees, mining copper and fetching potatoes so that my workers can get beer.
Screw the end game.
Im level 21, but that's just a number. I will get to max level one day. When? I don't have a clue. I am a PVE player, I suck at PvP myself but I dont care. When I get to that scary level (40 or was it 50) I will join a guild and go that PvP route as a PvE player. I don't need to be the best.
For now and for the near future this game have give me a great deal of hours of enjoyment. And I know it will provide me more.
Hope to see you ingame

I know and accept that PvP is inevitable. I am not afraid of PvP, I done my share of GvG in Dark age of Camelot
For me, the purpose of the game is in the ride to that end level. End level itself is not the goal. When it starts raining silver on me, I can delve into PvP, I won't be the best but I will be a factor in it.
And until that day I guess we will have open world dungeons and maybe more PvE. Who knows? But for the money I spent on the game it will be worth it.
Im no fanboi, there are things that I do not like in this game, as there are in all these games.
But for now, the money I spent and the hours of enjoyment in front of me makes it all worth it for me Im enjoying it for now

I'm also terrible when it comes to pvp, we could start our own guild ''UN peacekeepers'' or something like that:D:D. But i'm still lvl 10!
Can the Asians not make any MMOs except shallow grinders? Final Fantasy excluded.
Nope they can't check out their mario levels on Mario maker, that's all they do there too. It is prolly something to do with their view of discipline. All they do all day is grind, in the most uncomfortable disciplined way they can think of.
The favorite thing the asains like to do in mario maker, is make the level impossible to beat, unless you grind at it, figuring out all the details on the level, then you can beat it.
The enjoyment level aside from the odd popup that says guild wars,i see is just hauling goods and fish botting, pretty weak for fun actvities. There seems to be little encouragement to actually want to combat or do anything but quest and quest and quest and the whole time battle your severe lack of inventory space.
I wonder if MOST of the ideas "mostly bad" are there to curb botting and rmt, hard to figure since they have their own fish botting system. In these mmorpg we should be seeing a very minimum of 100 spaces of inventory not these 30 or so..I do understand they are trying for some weight carrying realism but the game is cumbersome enough, inventory space is far less intrusive than the fish botting system.

The major reason for getting to cap is PVP. It's not that there is nothing to do at Cap for PVE players, more that the game is setup so you don't actually have to race to Cap if you don't want to. There are tons of players sitting at 25-35 just doing stuff.

If you are interested in making a MMO maybe visit my page to get a free open source engine.
PvP wise, BDO has an advantage in being fast to lvl combat...if you wish to play that way.
edit: And no gold spammers. Amazing. Nice.
