EQ2Wire has posted a live blog of last week's Spring Update live stream when several members of the EverQuest 2 team discussed Game Update 100. One of the things the team caught was the reveal that Game Update 100 would require membership to play and to use items.

If I am reading this right they drop the new game, are looking to double down on the toolkit they were using the make the new game and make money from that, they are now restricting content updates to members only....

DBG may not produce any new games, but they sure have balls, lol

i have always paid a Sub for Everquest Games
The best PVE Franchise in mmo history
Wish other big publishers would follow this model but nope... they all wanr $15 per every single mmo with less stuff offered in them and laugh at you thinking you should get some cash shop currency lol.
This is one of few that is definitely worth it if you play any of their mmo's.

I have subbed on and off myself too. The problem is they are not rewarding loyalty but membership which is just paying for the content. I would be happy if the entire game was sub only but when it went F2P that is when I actually stopped subbing. So now we get the worst of both worlds. A F2P game with subs, with a cash shop, with members only content...throw that is which what has happened to EQN and the fact they are turning the toolkit (Landmark) into the ONLY game for all that effort and I really don't see anything but what this is. DBG trying to suck every last penny from the pockets of as many people as they can before they shitcan the lot.

Still subbed to it to this day, and have for most of the last 10 years. Top 2 MMOs on the market , IMO.
It never stopped being a sub game. The sub option has ALWAYS been there. Every time I have played over the years, I have subbed, even after they went f2p. You dont HAVE to pay to play most of the content available. The amount you get for free is massive.
The people that play EQ2 (or have played it recently) see this as not remotely a big deal
The people that don't play think this is some diabolical move worth blindly bashing a company over
but i wouldnt play that craptastic EQ2, free or paid, so i dont care. but ya, fuck Daybreak
It's not uncommon for subscribers to get little perks here and there when the model is hybrid. I'm not aware of Western MMO's outright requiring you to subscribe to get access to content...though truthfully I don't follow all the games as I once did so it's possible there are many others.
I agree, with already tons of free contents free players should be satisfied.
It always amazes me how hard people will complain for the products that they not even bought. With what exactly you think those devs will get paid? Hopes and dreams?
When you don't want the truth, you will make up your own truth.
EQ2 if you want to access the specific content. Landmark is fine without it.
Smedley already announced that his game won't be F2P.
Since he left Daybreak, they have been moved away from F2P as well.
I think the only thing someone smelled is financial reports saying F2P wasn't worth it.
Played a lot EQ2. Long ago. Now there is no way I would play anything with that horrible grapchis for 2016! Yes, it is not all in graphics but it is also not all in rest.
