The biggest drawback of the UI is its initial presentation and introduction -- which is rather poor. However, it is the most customizable UI I've seen in an mmo, outside of mod driven mmo's.
It's a real shame that 's enough for many players to walk away from everything else this game offers. TBH, it had the same effect on me, but I just decided to focus on that...see if I could get past it. It just takes a little patience and tinkering folks.

These days it seems players too often walk away from games over one or two trivial imperfections without really giving them a good try.

Wow sorry OP. I will agree that at first glance the UI seems very busy and cluttered. However after playing with it I think its hands down the most custom UI I have ever played with. Shit, blizzard should take a page out of BDO's book!
And lol @ people saying I can't figure out how to customize. Despite for asian mmos typically scattered options for the ui/game, I can of course find them. What I am saying is that they're not sufficient, at all. The UI and gameplay limitations are terrible.
- You can't make the chat properly opaque. Even at lowest transparency, I can't comfortably read the damn chat. - There is no autorun. What the hell. Yes, you can run to your goal, but you can't simply autorun. - You can't get out of fps targetting mode. I like to use MouseLook while holding down RMB and running on auto. For a game that doesn't have fast travel... it's a crime that this is not possible. - You can't move some very important ui elements, such as the minimap, game options and leveling info. You can only hide them. I don't want to hide them. I want to move them. - You can't scale individual UI elements. At 120% some things are too big, but for the things I need that big, I am forced to blow everything out of proportion too. /lesigh
From ArcheAge to Secret World to Tera.. no game of the last 5 years has such shortsighted limitations on ui and gameplay customization.
For a game in 2016, these are bizarre omissions. These things are not trivial. The gameplay and ui are what the things you do and interact with constantly. If these are a hindrance rather than properly flowing, they become frustrating. I've played most mmos you've heard of. And don't get me started on the daft genderlocking or that ghastly black spirit.
Im not sure what your talking about the UI is very informative and has all the information I would expect for a game like this. Give me an example of a games UI you think is perfect for an MMO of this complexity?

- There is no autorun. What the hell. Yes, you can run to your goal, but you can't simply autorun.
You can autorun just fine. Don't set a destination, and just hit your autorun key (T by default).
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

You can't auto run because "running" is a somewhat "active" activity. The more you "run" the greater your stamina raises. you don't raise your stamina using the "point to point autorun".
If there was just a "regular auto run then that would bypass the system in place.
Having said that, they do have an auto pathing system that they will probably put in the game down the line to help players catch up.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I guess people have different definitions of being a veteran. You may have played a lot of MMOs but you clearly don't spend much time looking into things.
Auto-Run is a feature and it is done by pressing T when you don't have a waypoint set, like Azaron_Nightblade mentioned. To add to that, the "MouseLook" you mentioned is also in the game, just use Middle Mouse button instead (You can find that at the bottom of the Input Settings, under Rotate Camera.) For a person who says they looked through "every" setting in the options menu, you sure proved yourself wrong there.
I just bought the game after hearing some praise and I agree it's the worst default UI I have seen yet. I also couldn't find anything in the options menu than removes the actions list that appears to the right of your character.
Worst default ui in the games I've played over the years is ESO, forcing you to mess around with several addons just to get something near a proper an mmo layout. Which of course just goes to show that people's tastes are different.
As an MMO vet I really like the ui... while yes there is some excess and spects can seem a little busy for the most part it is very informative and modern.
What I don't like about my experience so far in BDO is the holy friggin RNGEEEEZUZ... I can't seem to get my gear past +9 (weapon) and +8 (armor) and I certainly don't get enough stones to "force upgrade" Just a crappy system when they do so much other things right.

Or even with a destination, just veer off the path and you can autorun anywhere changing direction as you want. Pressing T again will get you back auto running to the destination.
How dare they do it without using NumLock!

Sorry, but this game sucks. The user experience/ui is the worst I've had the displeasure to deal with. Hurts the eyes, is not properly customization, and is littered with counter-intuitive flow. I don't know how a modern game in the year 2016 can be so thoroughly messed up. I've played Ultima Online, Asherons' Call.. And World of Warcraft, Secret World, Tera... this is just the worst ui of them all. Stay way.
You couldn't pile on a thread that already existed?
