WildStar : Some Faction Barriers Dropping + Race/Class Combos

The first and second WildStar DevConnect events have wrapped up and thanks to a fruitful discussion between Carbine and players, some new changes are coming with regard to the faction wall as well as to new race / class combos.

I'm sure sooner or later they'll drop this faction idea due to one side having more people then other side.

Factions were a wonderful way to split the playerbase in half with nothing in return for it, right?  Well, besides some lore which the players can't really affect anyways (no matter how lopsided the faction sides get, it doesn't have any effect on the lore and story far as I can tell).

Really, sometimes a company just needs to sit back and ask themselves "Does this feature actually add anything significant to the game or does it only take away?"

Some players enjoy the story and the reason behind the games they play as much if not more than the copy/paste pew pew, grind, phat lewt, blah blah. Look at the MMO market today. 90% of them are just the same darn play style with nothing different than the 'lore' that other gamers in the market don't seem to feel matters. WoW's lore is no more affected or important than Wildstar's. The only real reason games like that don't remove the faction walls is because they have the player base to support each faction separately. It has nothing to do with better game play. It has everything to do with lower numbers. Personally, I am glad they are keeping a good number of the barriers, I am very worried though as cross faction chat is always a one way ticket to 99% of the players turning it off and never reading it again as it will instantly become infected with hate, cursing, and trolls. I would have liked to see an option for asylum allowing players to leave their faction and join another.

I'm glad they're unlocking more classes for the races. It didn't make much sense that Aurin couldn't be healers given their nature but the robotic Mechanri, space zombies, and psycho hamsters could.

Along those lines I remember in the beginning there was a cinimantic showing a Gronk with a rifle. We never got that class. The closest was an Engineer with more of a combat shotgun.

Anyone else ever play on the co-op server for DAOC? I thought it was the cooled thing ever. I loved all the cross faction mingling.

It's funny how restrictions disappear along with the players.  Have a popular game, though, and you can tighten those restrictions all you want.

Nice changes. It seems that WS is alive and keeps evolving.

Sounds like just another desperate measure to try and turn the tide.

But they aren't willing to do the one thing that might actually do that, which is redo the game from the ground up, revamp the graphics, and fix the combat, as the combat mechanics in the game are among the worst they could have chosen from, it doesn't have to be tab targetting, if there is one thing that BDO has shown, is that action combat can be done well.

I knew they would do this change eventually. I fuckin knew it!!! In beta I repeatedly wrote carbine telling to remove class restrictions. I wanted only to be a Chua stalker. They told me they would never do it.

Time will tell how "fruitful" the discussion actually was.

The combat is too bad for me. Seemed interest enough for a theme park but that combat...

Your comment is obliviously pointless- they dont have the resources- you make with what you got.

    have lemons=make lemonade.

oj and BDO will tank in a few...

I'd venture to guess BDO is in tank mode already. They can gate content that should have just been in at release all they want, but it won't stop the ship from taking on water.

And really, BDO an example of action combat working? I'd say it stands as the worst implementation of Action combat in an MMO to date.

all this hype about BDO and the game is shit. if you like facebook tied into your mmo then it's for you. those seeking adventure and a thrilling world should not play this garbage. but to each their own i guess

I did, well the euro one anyways. I believe it was called GAHERIS. Wildstar, I loved it for a few months and then the rot set in. Too much sugar in the game and ott humour.

I really like the idea of factions but realistically I can see it being more of a problem unless you have WoW type numbers.

I don't know why some people are so desperate to see this game close. Why would anyone want to take away enjoyment from other people just because they have a problem with it. They don't kill babies.

Back in WoW Vanilla I got to Warlord rank 13, due to the flaw with faction and I was on pretty good size server. It is a problem even few server years to come.  Many server still have that faction in balance worst on pvp side of the like open world when you are out number 5 to 1 on good amount server. I seen this problem in many games how faction makes thing worst then help. Seem good idea on paper but people are to much like to be on the winnng side or the zerging side.

Of course they're desperate and trying to turn things around. More news at 11.

The one thing they need to do, which still might cost more money and time than they have, is make content that appeals to the demographic that is still interested in their game which is mostly the casual player like I said in the other post (solo, small group, and casual group content).

The one they absolutely don't need to do is a complete rewrite and graphics overhaul. The combat mechanics aren't bad, but they could be streamlined.

That's all really interesting but this discussion is about Wildstar. In your effort to trash talk another game you got mixed up in the wrong thread. :dizzy:
Actually, no I did not. If you read every post (instead of randomly posting to up your count), it will help you establish the context of the posts that follow.

Factions and pvp-pve gear are the most dangerous forms of cancer ever introduced to the MMO genre.

May 11 is coming and 1Q16 reveue results of NCSoft. I'm curious to see whether steam release can save this game.

I don't see a fail or a desperate measure in this, since this is was the player brought up and asked for on the forums since forever.

If anything, they should have gone back to the "devs are listening" and read their own forum for player input way sooner, it would have saved them some trouble and lots of players lost.

Hopefully this encourages more niche titles to not go and follow the old traditional two faction war, but find another way. Done right, there is still enough room for lore and conflict.
I guess after many years and games doing this, we should grow out of the same-o-same "who was here first", "what faction did the other wrong first", "which faction is the bad one" pseudo-lore as a vehicle to drive conflict and PvP (that mostly doesn't work well anyway).
