I must say, I am quite skeptical of indie games (especially mmos), because I've been burned in the past (money spent, disappointment, money lost). However, this is probably the one indie mmo that I'm most looking forward to. I've found some slight satisfaction in the recent trend of survival sandbox games, but I personally dislike open-world pvp, so that satisfaction is usually short lived. Also, I never feel like there is any purpose to what I do in those games, because there's no large story or series of events that you're working towards.
So, the fact that this game is strictly PvE and group-oriented, has planned events, has lore, and plain old-school mmorpg fun, definitely has me interested. I look forward to seeing more when the public alpha is released.

Cheers. Still a ways to go, but we're making good progress and the community around the game has been amazing to-date!

Early alpha. Long way to go until polish gets applied.
hopefully ... do show us when there is something better to see.
With 250 YouTube videos produced in the past two years, showing every single step of the journey, you'll be seeing a lot more than JUST the polished product over the next couple of years as we work towards the finish line.

well, i am really not interested in the journey. If you have a good polished fun game at some point in the future, i may try it.
Whether you spend 2 years, or 20 years making it, and whether it is a fun or harsh journey makes little difference to me. It really only boils down to whether i like the game.
Now I am not saying you HAVE to cater to me. It is a free market after all. But that is how I see entertainment products.

Everyone's welcome to their opinion. Tis the beauty of modern living!
Meanwhile, we've got a strong core who are following along with the journey and are interested in the documentation side of things.
We'll see you in 2018 after we've launched and you can make up your mind then. Meanwhile, we'll keep plugging along as always
Saw that 9 new posts had been written since I last checked this and already knew at least 5 of those would be fail repeating over and over again how they have a lot of youtube videos and a "strong core of followers"...

Just wondering if anyone has made any comments yet about you guys using Asset Store bought assets? Almost as soon as we launched our KS Campaign we started getting attacked for using some of the very same assets you guys are using...

Your downfall was never about you buying assets...

No... A major amount of our downfall was how we handled the attacks... But I never said it was our downfall just that we were attacked right from the start for using store bought assets because we were... But anyways this thread isn't about our downfall. It was just a simple question I asked because I wanted to see if other developers were getting attacked for using the assets like we were...
Maybe a dozen people in two years out of close to 60 million views on social media now, plus what we clear at the websites and forums.
We've got two artists (Joe and Emma) working on all of our Elenhi and Dwearhe assets, we'll be doing custom character models later on down the road, and while we've purchased a few thousand dollars' worth of world assets, they're being blended with custom elements.
It's not something that really comes up because we're up-front about how we're using the Unity engine, and we're blending store-bought assets with our own assets. Everyone who pre-orders our game knows EXACTLY what we're doing and how we're doing it, so there's never really any questions in that regards.
And even when it does come up from a handful of folks, it's a non-issue, and it's never been from pre-order folks, but from window-shoppers who will complain simply because they like to complain.
People can buy things from the Unreal store just as easily.
I'd say, at the end of the day, we'll end up having around 60% store-bought world assets that are heavily tweaked for our own style, and about 40% of our own from-scratch art. And even though we're using some store-purchased content, it's heavily modified to fit our own style...and will be further modified the further we get towards launch and polishing.

They avoid that by simply not showing much. I once provoked fail into showing a bit of his epic "dungeons that take at least a month to clear" and what he gave us were 2 screenshots.
-A long corridor with generic roots on the sides -A long corridor with generic pillars on the sides
In fact he gained a bit of my respect that day because you really need some balls to present trash like that to the public.
And your problem James was that Jason is a criminal and you change your mind more than a girl from a Katy Perry song.

You know things are going well when the Greedmonger guy can poke fun at you for using store bought assets in a commercial MMORPG.
Still have no idea who he is or what Greedmonger even is.
We're focused on our own game. Unity has given us an amazing boost in terms of being able to get foundation layers in place without needing an art team spending thousands of man hours, and from there we get to blend in our own elements.
On a side note, we've got our next internal build happening in about 3.5 hours. Stay tuned for updates throughout the late afternoon, evening, and into tomorrow....and then the countdown to April 30th
Don't understand the hate and bashing. Looks like the team is putting in work. They've been providing regular updates on the status. They're honest and up-front about what type of game it will be, and what type of game it won't be.

Yep!
Still here, and still working on the game Passed the two year mark, and on our way to the finish line!
