i'm fairly certain that i would not enjoy this title because of it's combat system and weird afk play thing..

I had fun once, it was terrible.

Been playing since day one and I am amazed with the amount of bad information about the game.

The amount of rushed reviews with shallow considerations is overwhelming and never seen in years of mmorpgs releases.

I am an mmorpg gamer since 2000 with Everquest and the only logic explanation for this sheer amount of lousy revews and disinformation is that  BDO was made by a South Korean company and God forbid that one company from that side of the map could come up with an MMORPG better then the last 10 years releases.

If you try BDO and give it a chance to show its mechanics you will be amazed with this beautiful game

I tried to play it but couldn't figure out how to get it to work.. had to pay some Korean guy to make me some account, then had to trick them to thinking that I had some Russian IP, and then downloaded some garbage that acted like spyware on my computer. Seriously I ended up having Russian crap popup on its own whenever I would start up my computer.

What kind of company does all that?? Do they even have an English version of the game yet?

Also, after putting up with all of that, I never got the game to work.. and found out that the PVP doesn't even get started until level 35+ or some crap..

Sorry but I think that any game that forces you to go through PVE to get to PVP wayyy later on is build to fail. How am I wrong?

What is so fun about it?

I might rather play Everquest FFS

I played to level 50 and uninstalled, all the complex systems people claim the game has are pretty shallow once you understand them. This game leaves out some of the best features of a sandbox and a themepark, leaving it a pretty shallow experience.

Someone who wants everything to be done in a matter of days, complains about evolving game and new content, complains about his previous work becoming useless in later times, that is not a mmo player. I understand he plays a lot of mmo but he is no mmo player, just like many others who play mmo like a single player game and complains.

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

Same here. Good mmo but just not my cup of tea. This was my most anticipated mmo this year, but for some reason, I just do not enjoy myself playing, heck, I enjoyed playing Riders of Icarus Beta a lot more!
Nothing against Black Desert, but as they usually say, to each their own.

Why would I play? I did play a little of the Korean version and said it sucked then and it still sux. If I want an AFK game, then maybe I would play this one. This one is not worth my time.

Do yourself a favor and play on the KR version. But yeah, great game if you can overlook a few glaring flaws.

No.  Both PvE and PvP are a joke.  This is an online economy sim.

    sayuu,
People are complicated and complex. Even if you think someone is shallow or just pretty, if you don't give them enough time that is all what you will ever see.

Oh I see, you have no defense on my stated opinion that Black Desert is pretty but shallow, but rather comment on the analogy.

    classic internet misdirection. . .

Every mmorpg by definition is an ongoing process, with highs and lows.

I can't recall a single mmorpg without exploits, scams, bots, unintended mechanics, whatever.

If you play since 1999 you should know that, and you should know that the most important thing is the core mechanics of the game because that is very difficult to improve after release, while other things pointed here  ( true or not) are much less complicated to improve.

Although Diablo 3 is not an mmorpg, its a perfect example of a game release with poor core mechanics. After years of trying to rebuild the core game, many fans consider it much worse then Diablo 2.

Long story short, BDO is right now a very fun and solid game, with no more or less problems then any other mmorpg released on the last 15 years.

CS story is made of exploits, people killing through walls, etc, but its played by millions and is a solid Esport, why? Because it has the same core characteristics has BDO.

BDO  also have a very good  thought out  PvP, PvE, housing, trading, tradeskiling system.

BDO is a good game, but an incomplete game.  It will only get better, but even then to fully enjoy it lots of little nuances need to be ignored.  If a player is able to do that, then they will get many, many hours of enjoyment out of the game.  I absolutely love the large majority of things that BDO offers, but the few things I dislike about it are borderline game breaking for me.  It's basically a curse and a blessing, all wrapped up in one neat gaming package.

The irony of BDO is that as good as the game is, its game play falls short of expectations in both of the major regions it caters.  In Asia BDO "sort of works" because it is developed with a tough stance on security and a more amicable and considerate PvP culture, yet it fails there due mostly to their gaming culture in that most of their game's are being played in public gaming shops that charge by the hour making the slow and tedious grinds in BDO not worth the hourly entertainment investment.  In the West BDO sort of "works" because the large majority of players play from the privacy and convenience of their homes thereby never having to worry about the hourly cost vs grind investment, but the game's Asian development culture as it pertains to security and PvP renders it a huge fail in this part of the world.

It's a game that straddles that nether place between "a rock and a hard place." It's a shame really.  Just goes to show that a lot still leaves to be desired in the development of MMORPGs.  When developing games, developers need to be thinking "globally."  There is no excuse, in today's day and age, for game's to be failing in this area without due regard.

Remember when this kind of gushing fanboy thread used to be about WoW?
    AoC?
    WAR?
    SWTOR?
    GW2?

    /reminisce

Enjoy it while you're still the Game of the Week, Ligi. But don't preach, that tends to be embarrassing when Next Week's game comes along.

I will be honest, i never passed from the character creation. Name system killed it for me. Name rules are overcomplicated and a system from 20 years ago where 2 characters can't have the same name... horrible.

    Also, gender locked classes.
  • negativf4kknegativf4kk Member UncommonPosts: 381
lack of character customization (i dont mean visual) killed the game for me.

This has to be the most boring mindless MMORPG ever created. The game looks amazing, which I'm guessing is what pulled most people into it. The combat would be great if the servers weren't lagtastic garbage since day 1. They keep releasing new areas of the game, but the content doesn't change. The only thing you can do to level in mindless trash mob grind for hundreds of hours, and no, that is not an exaggeration either. I have never seen a game with so much wasted potential as this game has. It is like they built the foundation for a massive new house and then just walked away from it. Yeah it's a "sandbox" game but there isn't much sand in the box to play with. Once you get past the graphics, all you have is the typical Korean grindfest RNG shitshow that no one in the west will play for more than a few months. File this next to Archeage as yet another Korean game that will be a ghost town in less than a year.

I can see several people I would have originally categorized as BDO white knights realizing it's longer term and more subtle flaws, which are coming to light. (well, that and its hacking flaw which is so unique to BDO that there really isn't any way to categorize that one, admittingly)

"Thousands of players" isn't that impressive for an MMO anyways.

Thank you donger56 for posting. This is the perfect example of what I have been talking about. After writing what you just did the only conclusion one can take is that do you didn't even played the game or if you did, you didn't PLAYED it. I mean didn't group, didn't join a guild, didn't tried PvP, PvE, tradeskiling, with a minimum of deepness.

Otherwise wouldn´t be possible to say that servers are "lagtastic garbage". I play since day one and I had 3 moments of less then 1 minute with lag untill today, so what are you talking about?

The most amazing thing you say is "  The only thing you can do to level in mindless trash mob grind for hundreds of hours" - I played the game trying to aknowledge all its mechanics and I found myself close to lvl 48 without doing any effort or grind.

There will never be enough sand for fast gamers in any game, its just not possible.

They built a foundation, a great one, as UO, EQ, EVE did too, just think about the first months of all those games and will conclude that they had the same growing pains.

Just to conclude, this is the perfect example of fast gamers. Unfortunalty there are more and more gamers avid of satisfation on the first hours of every game, if not, they just trash the game excluding the possibility of other playing it in another kind of way.

It wouldn't cross my mind after playing Mario Karts, going to the forums trashing the game saying its laggy as hell because my connection sucks and its a shallow game with lack of RPG content. Thats what you and a lot of other fast gamers do all the time.

Thank you again for this perfect example.

Am playing BDO now..and i agree with a lot of things people here have said...mainly...the graphics are great!!

    Downsides:

PVP has been and will continue to be the downfall of every single MMO...Look at the numbers of MMO gamer decrease since OPEN world PVP was introduced...say what you will...can't please all sides.

Feels umm ok i'll say it...too Korean...like all those kungfu/martial arts style fighting games...Killing a boss at level 11 and never once even got hit..

Too polluted with NPC's...ok i love NPC interaction as well...but do i really have to bump every single person on navigation travel...lol

Doesn't feel like a home - housing and crafting feels like an added afterthought instead of actually needed to enjoy the game...sure i can decorate my house and thats wonderful...but it just doesn't feel like MY house...

GUI is a pretty big learning curve because almost everything is different that most mainstream MMO's...had to research several things on internet just to figure out how to do something.

    Now all that being said..

I am enjoying the PVE content somewhat....once i figured out what each of the quest markers meant LOL...there's some good quest lines although the translations are somewhat lacking. Content, Content, Content....get people involved in a story.

My Opinion --- PVP sucks and always has..."IF" game is to survive - get rid of the ADHD kids that have  to have everything right now...concentrate on the things that builds a community of players that stick around....good housing...GREAT crafting...People will never stick around long enough to even learn the game if they don't have a great time with other people..
