It's not the same vibe as vanilla WoW at all. Maybe similar colors, etc. As has been oft said -- focus on hardcore raiding to sell the game boggles the mind. O.o

Former WoW devs decided to make a game that plays like vanilla WoW; except for a slightly different combat system and the game fails terribly. And there are people who constantly spam all over internet asking for vanilla server..just go play Wildstar and save these poor devs who believed in vanilla WoW community!!

Exactly lol. I got flamed on these forums so hard when I said Wildstar was gonna sink and now look at how it turned out. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why a game with "We're like classic WoW" as their selling point is going to fail. It's a shame so many people invested in it.

I guess that was the initial idea though it did turned out as the worst game design ever.
Ultra Casual leveling and hardcore end game don't mix well.

I said it when I first played beta that this game would bomb so badly because of one major flaw.
There is no Casual end game for Casuals while at the same time there is not Hardcore leveling for the hardcore players.
So Casuals would quit the game as soon as they reach level cap, while Hardcore (Raiders) would not even get to taste the hardcore endgame because they get bored before due to the dull ultra casual leveling.

They just managed to kill the entire potential player base in one single shot.
How could they not see that it's beyond me.

if you're going to be like classic WoW then be like classic WoW.. dont change the combat system to some dance dance revolution crap and expect that people will love it.

I had fun once, it was terrible.

They never should have had a subscription. They never should have chose the half action/half tab target combat system. You gotta go all in on a system or it is going to feel unsatisfying to both crowds.

TSW is another example of a half action combat system that feels sloppy

The combat system is absolutely horrible but they must have obviously had a great deal of faith in it to invest such a lot of money in this project.

I loved the games humor and look... the combat was THAT bad as everyone says

The biggest issues I think was the real lack of anything to do... at max level i was like ... what is there to do...

I keep wondering how does anyone design a combat system that is so terrible. The colour wheel the massive overlapping between player's trajectory and combat actions made it truly a headache to play but how could they not see it for themselves. You have to be totally blind to think this type of combat is in anyway any good.

The rest of the game the artwork was wonderful and I loved the housing and the humour but my god the combat though.

The delicious irony of the picture that accompanies this news.

One of the reasons Wildstar failed was pandering to SJW, making boobs smaller because they aren't sex objects! I'm guessing they thought it was impossible to alienate their core target audience and they could tap into the feminist market... you know, those people who don't play these games outisde of candy crush. Normal women don't give a crap about big boobs or small boobs, heck most women I know show them off with their characters cosmetics and laugh about it on teamspeak.

What they should of done was mock the SJW, as Blizzard did with Tracer. What blizzard did was marketing genious, what Carbine did was make themselves look like retards.

Ahhhh Wildstar. The pinnacle of WOW clone failures. I could swear I heard someone playing Taps softly while I was reading this article.

That cancer diagnosis is awful news by the way. I hope recovery is possible.

I enjoyed Wildstar for a few weeks. It was fun wiping on each boss in a dungeon for about 6 hours... then learning you had to get Gold.

Pardon me but WS wasn't even close to vanilla WoW, if it where it would have done much better. The only things resembling vanilla WoW where the 40 man raids (in WS's case a telegraph avoidance galore) and the attunement required for them.

See I have had a very different experience playing recently and find there are people everywhere. I play five different toons and find people running all over Algeroc, Celestion, Northern Wilds, Everstar Grove, Galeras, all the new player areas. Chat is quiet and if someone just logged on and stood there watching chat I could see how they might think it was dead but all it ever takes for me is to say a few 'positive' things in /zone and all of a sudden people come out of the woodwork. No, "gah i wuz so rite. this game iz ded".

Queues are queues and I find that if I ask in zone I can put a group together for just about any instance in about 5 minutes rather than sitting and expecting the game to do it for me. Guess I am old school mmo.

I always thought it was funny that people called WS a dance dance telegraph light show and sang about action combat games like BDO when if you turn all the telegraph indicators off guess what? You have an action twitch MMO. Move your character like an FPS, jump out of the way of enemy attacks, point your character in the right direction and use an ability and it does damage. Heck I had to do more dancing in end game WoW fights in the past than WS.

I saw a comment or two about the art style and not making the female's sexy enough but seriously, that is where we are as a society? BDO is a hack riddled, money grabbing, contentless disaster but it is doing great because you can strip your female avatar down into a porn star and get off to the boob physics. Mike Judge was right, we are turning into Idiocracy. Electrolites, it's what MMO gamers crave.

Now I will not say that WS did not make some mistakes. My gosh their launch was an historic train wreck and one that caused my entire community to go to FF14 instead for the last few years but the game itself if still very good. It does seriously need to be optimized but other than a bloated UI hog it still plays well on a dated rig. The writing is top notch... I suppose not really a selling point for the /tldr generation. There has not been a ton of new content but that is the result of an initial poor performance. Oh meh gawd WoW has so many expansions, sure throw hundreds of millions of dollars at any company and content tends to happen.

Wildstar still has the chance to be something great. Just like FF14's catastrophic bad start yet managed to turn it around and is now an extremely successful title. I don't know if it is just old sour grapes or that people just want this game to fail but my experience, and I play almost every night, does not support the doomsaying I keep hearing. Heck I have heard a dozen people in the new player zones all chatting at one another for a half an hour about how dead the new areas are and there is no one to talk to... think about that. >.> I hated WS at launch but I got over it. Now, with fresh eyes I am seeing how amazing this game can still be if given the chance. It just seems the general populace doesn't want to do that. They all just want the be 'the one' that saw it all coming. They are the reason it failed because they went to a forum and bad talked it. If the game is that bad, play other games. Don't make it your life's work to kill this one.

But in the end it is really just moot because it all comes down to NCSoft, a company with a reputation for not giving two @%&;# about the player and basing all decisions on a couple of bars on a graph. With that said, no it does not bode well but things can change. They could take a page from Square Enix's play book and revive the title. It may take new leadership, not that the past people were not amazing people but sometimes it does take new eyes to see certain flaws that were right in front of us. We should not be here torch and pitchfork in hand chanting burn the witch. We should be here hoping all the best to those that poured their lives into this game and also for those that are enjoying the heck out of it and are only going to be hurt by the constant crap talk it continues to get. Like the old saying goes, if you cannot be part of the solution, don't be part of the problem.

Well made game and excellent ideas. Horrible combat that was never really addressed and game fell apart no surprise.
