    Blizzard has been copying features from other games and making them better for like a decade now. Its their thing and it obviously works for them so why stop.

    So when Rift did it they were horrible and worthy of harsh criticism.  But when Blizzard does it they are doing a good thing?

    Yea its not hard to see how people can think this game is directly related.  Lets see the offensive characters are the group on the left.  The defense in the middle and the support are on the right.  Guess that was a coincidence.  The guy with the big machine gun or the guy with the wrench and turret are just another coincidence.  So I guess the game on the top has a lot more characters but the game on the bottom has a lot more maps.  You can switch characters in the middle of the match.  I guess thats another coincidence.  They both resemble a fps with objective pvp maps and abilities to add flavor.  Just another coincidence.  Yet this is hardly a clone.  No nothing even close to each other.
    Holy shit! the character select is similar. No wonder I have been having a difficult time telling if I'm playing TF2 or OW. it is like they are identical in every way! /end sarcasm
    Really that is all you could see out of what I just said?  Take your sarcasm and add a little intelligence please.
    Are you onto something or just on something?

    This is what Blizzard has always done.  Take a solid idea and polish it up.

    EQ->WoW
    MTG->Hearthstone
    DOTA/LOL->HOTS
    TF2->Overwatch

    Not sure what exact games would be the "inspiration" for the Warcraft/Starcraft or Diablo series, but I'm sure there were games that were very similar yet unpolished versions before them.

    Anyway, you can't fault players for wanting to play polished versions of games with solid ideas.

    This has always been the problem with Blizzard- they don't innovate, so their wild success is bad for innovation in gaming, especially when companies try to copy their copies of games- we end up with a crapload of soulless games.

    At the same time, it's Blizzard's strength.  They can just about say they've never made a bad game, which would have been impossible if they were coming up with new and original ideas (some are bound to fail).

    you mean take the solid idea and dumb it down for masses? :P

    Is it worth mentioning that the lead developer claims that TF2 is one of his favorite games ever.  He also takes it as a great compliment to think the two games are related.  So even he admits the design was heavily influenced by TF2.

    This has been the Blizzard formula for over a decade. Blizzard doesn't do innovation, they take what works and do it better. Almost anyone that played vanilla WoW thought it was great, but none of it was anything new. Overwatch isn't supposed to be anything new. It does seem to be a well polished and fun game to play so I expect it to do really well just like most Blizzard games. They have the money to invest in advertising and making trailers and videos as well as put up money for tournaments for competitive play. I'm no Blizzard fanboy, but the fact is that they make successful games and some of them have been pretty good. You don't look to Blizzard for new ideas, you go there after you get sick of wasting money on crowdfunded shitshows that produce nothing that resembles a playable game.

    How about when it comes to whether or not OW is a TF2 clone we all just agree to disagree rather than try and convince others or force our opinions on them. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that and I wish others would do the same.

    Because when you can easily take the characters and their playstyles and put them into the other game without causing problems.  This is hard to ignore and say they aren't the same game.  They are the same game but with different characters and some of them are actually the same character.

    Seriously.... well clearly you are too immature to let this go but I've grown tired of debating so I'm done. I will have fun playing Overwatch and I hope you continue to enjoy TF2 or whatever you are playing at the moment.

    Imagine if this was an art forum for painters.

    OP: "Look at my painting of the sea guys. Please don't flame me!"
    Cheetos1337: "OMFG this is a clone of other paintings of the sea."
    NotAVirgin933: "IT'S THE SAME PAINTING AS THIS OTHER PAINTING! If you put them next to each other you can clearly see they are both of the sea, ergo it's the same."

    I ll say it again, clone or not, it s one hell of a fun game. Blizz does that well. The Rift comment is they were also mocking Blizz, as well as Blizz is just better and more quality then Trion at that thing.

    Better analogy is a painting of something unique.  There is more then just a single item similar here.  Look I painted a monster.  How in the heck did you paint a monster that looks 90% the same as mine and claim to be original?  Well your monster inspired me to make a monster of my own, who cares if its the same thing the difference is I made it and did different colors.

    And then the original monster-painter might say "Cool! Your monster looks much better than the monster i painted 9 years ago. I really enjoy looking at it and it will inspire me to draw and even better one". And so the genre of monster-painting was evolved. The end.

    Blizzard isn't innovative, but they are great on looking at other companies games, finding the fun in them and mixing and matching the fun things they find in to a bundle of fun of their own.

    The entire Warcraft and Starcraft IP is HEAVILY influenced (some call it a complete ripoff) of Warhammer and Warhammer 40k, repectively. Diablo might be Bliz's only true, original IP.

    I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

    Which proves the OP correct.  Overwatch is an updated version of TF2.  I wouldn't say its better just updated.

    Blizzard doesn't clone.

    They just carve out all the pieces from other games that people like. Then the Blizztards come in and rant that everything is just a clone of their new game.

    As a game dev, you know you did good when Blizz copies your sh!t. Of course, your company will go under because everyone flocks to the oh-so-original Blizz game, the chorus of Blizziots drowns out any good press, and soon, the 2, 3 people who pop up with every game, doom-saying it from day one, put another notch in their butt-plug as the self-fulfilling prophecy of "ded game is ded" plays out.

    That's why we can't have nice things.

    If Overwatch really is Titan than this game was in the works a long time ago in a far away galaxy.
