I can see Bethesda releasing Skyrim for PS4/XB1, would especially make sense if they aren't planning on releasing ES6 for another few years.
I'd rather just see a new ES game though. Skyrim was a let down. It seems that as time goes on Bethesda get better at making systems (combat is improving, leveling is almost complex, crafting is great) but are getting much worse with creativity.
Morrowind was just 10 kinds of awesome. Oblivion was pretty generic fantasy, just medieval western europe with some demons thrown in Skyrim was pretty generic as well, just medieval northern europe.
I don't know about anyone else, but exploring in both Oblivion and Skyrim sucked. I kept on expecting to find some awesome place to explore, or interesting creatures with cool loot, but it never happened. Even when I found the ridiculously massive underground cave system that seems to span the whole of skyrim, it was still boring to explore. Most rooms / caves / corridors were just carbon copies of places we'd already seen 100 times.
Then, even though combat has been steadily getting better over the series, it's still very simple, certainly not enough to carry the game.
I still got enjoyment out of Skyrim. I played through all the guilds and main storylines, explored the majority of the map, got to level 50ish etc. But, the whole time I was still expecting it "to get good" and it never did. Thieves guild and dark brotherhood were probably my highlights, main questline and mages guild were lowest points in the game (quest wise).
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr80 Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr5X Shaman
If they just updated the engine, on PC it'd probably be better to stick with the modded original version. The unofficial patch for instance fixes quite literally tens of thousands of bugs in the game (varying from major broken stuff to misplaced objects and typos) and has taken years of work.
I never liked using the unofficial patches TBH, too many potential conflicts. As well as potential issues with official patches.
Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch: Don't leave Helgen without it.
In fact, I use almost every single mod that particular author writes in every game every time.
As for the OP's topic......I don't know why, but you'd think I'd be more excited than I am. but.....meh.
