@blueturtle13 Which one? hehe, wasn't sure if you're saying after playing Lawbreakers you feel it's the best or OW is.
Lawbreakers by a mile. The CliffyB shooting mechanics and level design plus the addition of vertical gameplay really surprised me. Made me forget all about Overwatch. The gameplay required far more skill to master. The vertical element adds much to the strategy and skill. Very cool game. It is going to be B2P so even in it's current state I plan to buy it on release.
You can also climb buildings in several ways with characters in Overwatch... and even fly on several others.
Not sure the vertical elements in Overwatch can really compares to the vertical elements in Lawbreakers (if this Youtube video is to be believed, that is). However, that vertical gameplay is one of the most prominent gameplay features advertised in Lawbreakers, so one would expect it to be deeper and more robust.
@blueturtle13 I signed up for the alpha and have been enjoying the gameplay videos I've started watching since you recommended the game. It looks like a much higher learning curve than your average shooter due to the vertical element. How prevalent is the twitch factor? I have noticed some abilities that seem to have a sticky-targeting effect (at least, it looks that way).
Some classes prefer twitch more so than others but at it's core this is an old school type arena shooter with a couple of modern twists. It is a twitch game for sure. The skill needed to shift and maneuver in the air is paramount to success. Navigating the maps both on the ground and in the air require more twitch than say an Overwatch. For better or for worse. It is Alpha though so more features will be added and it needs a level of smoothness that was present in the E3 showing. Overall I am liking the game quite a bit. More than I thought I would. I am a middle aged gamer and did not think I could compete with the younger players in an twitch based arena shooter much outside of the easier OW and TF2. For whatever reason I am finding success with LB. Now once the new Quake arena game comes out who knows. It may be the one to beat.
Thanks for the info. From the gameplay I've seen, I think LB will cater to a slightly different audience than OW or TF2 for sure. I'll be keeping an eye on its development. I'm hoping I don't miss the release (I'll be MIA from gaming for a month or so come the end of next week), as I'd like to avoid playing catch-up, of sorts, with this type of game!
I wish there was some sort of demo or trial for this game. I can't bring myself to shell out $50 when I don't know if I will like it, or how well it will run on my pc. And I missed the beta.
There was but you missed it the open beta only required you to open a battle.net account.
It is optimized really well as are all things Blizzard do I am only running a 7970 on a new i7 and can run the game on ultra with every setting max and still hit 50-60 fps.
My son has a 270x on an older system with i7-2600 ddr3 ram and it plays well on that system too. I would suggest that if you can play any other similar game with a decent fps then your system probably isnt a barrier. Blizzard are very good at ensuring that as many people as possible can play their games.

Looks cool, just too fast paced for my taste, plus all that jumping, I could never get into that in tribes nor Unreal.
Tribes Ascend has done a good job of opening up the skiing mechanism for new players. It's a little more forgiving than the older titles, making it a much more "easy to learn, hard to master" kind of thing. Grabbing kills while skiing is still a satisfying challenge.
Definitely wanna try Lawbreakers now, though.
Good to know, for me though I'm just more into grounded shooters like Arma, where the action is a little more spread out, as well as I guess I'd say tactical.
For close up in your face experiences, I'm more into something like Chivalry (medieval style combat)..

A bit more modern TF 2 clone, I pass. I am waiting for lawbreakers now THAT will be something totally new and addictive
The last thing that this game is, is a clone of TF2. That's like saying Skyrim is a clone of Baldur's Gate. TF2 is old hat, in fact, it's nothing but hats. Overwatch is the future.
Have to agree- from the gameplay videos alone, you can see that there aren't a whole lot of equalizing abilities to Lawbreakers. It's twitch action, first and foremost, bolstered by zero grav and vertical movement skills galore. I don't see a huge overlap in target audiences between this and OW (aside from the general FPS fanbase that is interested in all types of multiplayer shooters).
If it is fantasy you want then stick with OW but if you want 50% edit: sry did I say 50%? I meant a whole lot of more modes and 30% more chars all with a true FPS mode then you might want to try Dirty Bomb. Only real with sticky bombs and orbital lasers.
Overwatch despite being a very well made game like all Blizzard products suffers from the same affliction al Blizzard games have. "Silliness"...looks silly, sounds silly, artstyle is silly everything is just silly. In particularly, it is a game for young players who ingest too much sugar and are constantly moving.
Are you serious? You are actually trying to act highbrow when talking about video games? Video games are are complete fantasy. It is escapism of the highest order. You want to sit at your keyboard and pretend that a cartoon style of game is less sophisticated a game than a realistic style of game? LMAO! I like video games but when gamers try to act mature about their games, I have to roll my eyes and wonder what the hell did we do wrong to have so many sniveling Neverland boys closed off from the real world?
Of course it's silly. It's a VIDEO GAME. LOL!
I can't remember but did video game nerds cry about Unreal Tournament not having a single player story mode? LOL! The crap gamers cry about.

I had been playing Dirty Bomb up until Overwatch release havent logged in since.
Very hard to recommend Dirty Bomb even though its free and a really good game. Still in beta and probably will still be long after we have colonized mars at the rate its going.
They are far more interested in adding items to the cash shop over adding any real content and as such that brings a very good game to its knees.
Which is why I am not holding my breath for Lawbreakers but would love to be pleasantly surprised.
Lawbreakers will be forgotten within a month or 2 just like BB is. OW is a much better game , not even close.
Be honest,if Blizzard owned lawbreakers and some other dev ran OW,which game would be tops and which would be near meaningless? There is a market out there, equally as big as game sales themselves and THAT market is what drives Blizzard gaming. People see Blizzard games a auto popular, that drives them to join in even if they never heard of the game or like the genre/game.it means streamers make more money, more advertising dollars for all, more sub websites, fan sites, more $$$ all over the place. My honest opinion of the two games? Well Lawbreakers seems to be a little more like Unreal Tournament,so for old schoolers they might like it more. What bothers me is all the devs have ruined a great genre, everything now is about flying around and super hero powers,a tad more like Halo than Unreal was.
Unreal was the PURE form of SKILL in a fps,no crap, just learn the maps and move them with various ideas and skill and learn the weapons strengths and weaknesses.Something NEVER mentioned was how players learned to use sounds in UT99 a skill not used because everything now a days is so spammy and in your face, forget about any defense.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Yeah same here, lawbreakers looks to me like it's gonna be the best from the bunch, haven't tried it yet though.
1 interesting thing to know, in Overwatch you have champions which can never beat some specific champions it's closer to a classic moba in the sense that it's got the rock-paper-scissors system (sup can't deal enough damage to kill a tank, and carry kills sup faster than the other way around)
This makes overwatch a much more team-oriented game, and puts individual skill on a lower level of importance (the same like LoL for instance)
2 on the other hand lawbreakers is more oldschool and much more individual skill based than team-oriented, for instance if you have more skill than the player you are fighting you can kill them with any champion regardless of which one they are running.

Paladins by HiRez the people who developed smite is a similar game to overwatch is free and has already live tournaments.
Overwatch imo isn't worth the hype or the price whilst its $40 in the USA its £40 in the UK which is expensive considering as an example I picked up destiny taken king for £24.
The founders pack which is optional costs $19.99

Ummmm, no. I have over 100 hours into Overwatch now, and I can emphatically state that there is no hero that cannot solo another hero. Yes, there are hero's that are designed to be more specifically counters to other heroes, but when every player's skill level is high, then this becomes much less of a factor.
This makes overwatch a much more team-oriented game, and puts individual skill on a lower level of importance (the same like LoL for instance)
This is true, Overwatch does reward players for picking a team where each player compliments another. Defending a point with A reinhardt who is shielding a bastion and a torbjorn turret, while symmetra places individual turrets and a widow snipes them as they approach... this kind of composition is rewarding. Having Zarya use her gravity bomb and then reaper using death blossom on the enemy group is pure bliss.
2 on the other hand lawbreakers is more oldschool and much more individual skill based than team-oriented, as if you have more skill than the player your fighting you can kill them with any champion regardless of which one they are running.
The word you're looking for is Chaotic. Call of Duty, Battlefield 1, Planetside 2.. these games that don't have an end state other than an individual player's KDR, tend to devolve into chaos very quickly. One player doesn't really do much to help another and, in fact, another player might just be in your damn way stealing your kills and lowering your stats.
In Overwatch, everyone who hits a target within a certain time frame, is counted on the kill. This way, you don't have an Gun Solo's running around just trying to raise their stats for the final splash page. In fact, the final splash page in Overwatch isn't even interested in KDR. It rewards group oriented play.
----- One thing that I'm getting tired of seeing recently is that the skill cap in this game is low and/or it's a casual game. If you ever go up against an epic level Genji, Hanzo or a GD, MF'ing, frustrating as shit Tracer player, then you'll quickly realize that this is far from true. Mastering Genji is levels and leagues away from mastering anything in a traditional chaos-shooter. It's not even close in terms of skill. Additionally, a phenomenal Tracer player can win matches for her team solo by hounding the weak links on the other team mercilessly.
Mastering Genji is levels and leagues away from mastering anything in a traditional chaos-shooter. It's not even close in terms of skill.
While I understand your frustration, the Spy and/or Scout from TF2 would definitely take a beef with this (also, anyone playing CS:GO). I'm not sure what you mean by "chaos-shooter," as I've not heard the term before now.
I get that you're frustrated with (what I saw as) hyperbole being used in the post you quoted, but Lawbreakers does seem to rely more heavily on twitch-based action than OW, if for no other reason than the prevalence of vertical movement instills a heavier reliance on that extra axis. And traditionally, the more a title relies on twitch-based action (as opposed to utilizing packaged skills to assist in confirming kills), the more it's considered to be purely skill-based (see the aforementioned CS:GO).
With that said, I agree that saying OW's skill cap is low is wrong. It's the skill floor that seems lower in OW than it is in Lawbreakers. Now, Lawbreakers does have a few skills that "sticky target" or lock on, but from what I've seen of the game, there aren't nearly as many equalizing skills in Lawbreakers. You won't be running around with a sticky-target healing beam on a player in Lawbreakers, simply contributing by holding down the M1 button and staying within range (at least, from what I've seen of LB so far). As blueturtle13 said, it's more akin to the old-school Quake/UT style arena shooters than it is a hero shooter/MOBA-lite experience.
