This just in from dev Helios....
I'd say that after reading his post, he STILL fails to understand what people got so upset about when he tackled the virtual world issue at the big Dev Jamboree on Friday. That he understands that they ARE upset seems to be a newish thing, but only time will tell if this improvement continues.

Wow.. it took him 2 days to come up with that cover-your-ass bullshit?
Shayde - SWG (dead)
Proud member of the Cabal.
It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

After reading the back and forth of Smed and the devs along with the copmmunity and else feel like they were playing the shell game? Where they say watch the cards while taking your moeny. You pick up the shell marked promises of SOE and its empty..
They still get your cash anyways.
Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.
Alright... So, what we were playing and enjoying for a year or so wasn't a game, it was a world sim? And an "extremely accurate world sim" is impossible to make? So they decided to make a game instead, which is "in essence, the same thing".
...Was anyone asking for an extremely realistic world sim?

Helios is, again, lying or ignorant. Doesn't really matter which. It is not beyond the processor ability nor is out of reach of engineering.
However, I will agree that the expense of doing a 100% immersion world may be out of
economic plausability.
I almost want to re-subscribe to SWG to respond to that thread. Anyway, it is clear we are not dealing with rocket scientists nor nuclear experts at SOE.
I just don't get it.....??? What are these guys thinking??
I readily admit that I'm a slack-jawed-yocal with absolutley no business sense, and I know alot more about deworming livestock than anything in the field of market research, big business or especially computer game design. But one thing I do know....quite simply is: Keep your customers happy!!
It just seems to me that when one person takes the time to post on a forum, you could almost add a multiplier to include several others that would agree with the topic that is being presented. I know, for myself in simply writing this that I could safely count at least ten friends, family, etc. that would agree with me (maybe more if I take my shoes off....:)) that are all former or current players. Just because many of them choose not to write up something doesn't mean their input isn't "in the mix" ...somewhere. When you count all the posts that have been made...even a rough count such as this...it all adds up to alot of unhappy people, and breaks away from what I would call "basic customer service". What the heck am I missing on the business end?
I wonder if you take a piece of blank notebook paper, rob one of your kids crayons, draw a big red line down the middle, and write two column titles..."yay or nay"....what you would come up with as you read the general forums on any website regarding your business. I would hope you could come up with something besides a bunch of lines.
Anyway....I'm sure this has been said before...but it feels good to get it off my chest. Damn I miss my SWG....of old....(sigh).
I just don't get it....??
Vodoo
World sim is impossible to make huh? Better tell that to Maxxis and EQ and Mr.Wright.
If anyone has seen the Spore presentations or even seen some of the hoopla about it. That's one helluva World sim, considering it includes entire galaxies as well as individual beings.
Perhaps Helios doesn't get out much or SOE has all the other game shops sites blocked with NetNanny.
Also, one thing I found interesting about the whole Smed/dev onlaught was it seemed like they changed the game because they didn't like it. Especially Smed. So they ganked the game to make it something they want to play (or more clandestinely test the DC MMO FPS system in). Also, you think any of Smed's kids get beat up in school by kids or kids with parents who played SWG?
Spore makes helios look like an idiot ( even more i should say)
Spore
I hope that clicky works, my first attempt.
There is no person on earth who wants swg to become the most reaslistic world sim ever. You'd think that was the case by reading Helios' post.
For the Horde!
I just point everyone to the Earth Simulator put out by NEC. The Engineering problems are different, but clearly not out of reach.

That's what I was gonna look for but I am just to tired. Thanks for posting that.
Of course folks are upset with him as well Chris Cao both kind of came in and just as folks were starting to feel some what better those two spoke and it was if what air was left in the balloon fizzled.
The folks on now were the ones that stayed with nge that were waiting for their issues to be addressed and or improvments to basic game play, while the communication was appreicated the players came to realize where the direction of the game was headed.
So even if Chris came on to explain himself it is just not in the cards that the community will except their vision.
So what if the powers that be heard us they are moving forward on their choosen path.
While many assumed it was the rumors that started the bee hive of communication i frankly think the bean counters sent the red flags up to managment with warnings about March 15 and the contiual downward spiral of subscriptions.
Frankly i do not think they have the staff left to get the lead out on expansion and or hot fixes or publishes and that is the reason pub 28 was delayed . The staff just is no longer there..........
These 2 don't need to create a virtual world. It's clear they are already off in their own as it is.
No wonder there has been such a total disconnect.
The Dev team is off in it's own special place with no care and no concern for the players. No matter how much Smed tries to claim otherwise.
It's actions, not words Smed. Your actions and the actions of your team make you out to be uncaring liars.
Man... This guy is an idiot!
Of course, an extremely accurate world simulation is not only beyond the capacity of a team of game developers to create but is also beyond the processing power of any computers available on the free market today. As such, when game developers create world "simulations" they already have to allow for a large number of inconsistencies (light sabers in SWG have never carried the danger of chopping off a limb, for instance).
Somebody call Will Wright (creator of The Sims), the developer of Spore or Black and White and tell him that!
SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
No no no....he is deadly right there, hands down:
Game developers cant develope a "real" world sim, that is (indeed) something reserved to physicans and other HIGHLY specialist. A "Helios" would have no place in such team.
He is also right with the computing power:
Note he choosed words like "also beyond the processing power of any computers available on the free market today" which is absolutely correct. "Free market" is the keyword here:
The one and only real running "earth simulator" is a project based on a multi-thousands CPU machine (dont hae the link handy, sorry buddy).
But, and this is important for me, he is missing the whole issue MAJORLY AND COMPLETELY (cant emphase this enough).
I dont get it, when the majority of the paying (or willing to) customer is telling them, that their product is not what they want, how come SoE is trying to talk every single "disliker" into that crap instead of CHANGING IT TO THE DEMANDED VERSION ?
Did i miss the call, when some1 was giving SoE a horse called "Rosinante" and instructed them to "ride out against the windmills" ?
I thougt (so far) that SoE is a businesscompany which is actually INTERESTED in making money.
Well, obv. im wrong....
I have NO explanation, why they try to convince every customer to buy the (ugly) yellow car when all of them (customer) are saying "We would buy your car immediatly if it was blue"...
I mean, jeez....i thought they have laws in Texas regarding the consumption of illegal substances putting your mind in the nebular of unhealthy dellusions...
And then there comes along this "Helios" (if he is inhalating what he is named like, you dont wonder anymore) and tells the playerbase that they wiped out 23 professions because they missed a tutorial ?
Yeah...yeah, way to go......(can have the medical staff up here ASAP plz...)
Really, reading this ChriCo dev, or Helios, some other devs and their Shepherd "Smedley", you REALLY dont wonder anymore why SWG had no other chance then failing with a BIG BANG BOOM....
Even if they get enlighted someday and find their path back, you CANT go back to this game cause you have the steady threat of their intelligence collaps happening again, screwing you again over and over and over, making you (again) losing all and everything.
Nope folks, its over: The name SoE must not appear on the box of whatever next is coming to town, filling the gap of the lost love...
Claude
lol, i left this game like 6 months ago and they still dont get it? hehe. People, I say, if you want this game fixed, let it die so they take the license from Smed & Co. Maybe the next person to have the license will take their reason for failure into account?
Actually, it's very simple, they're just failing to see they only needed to fix the actual content, add more content (concentrate on adding more for both factions) and balance professions a tiny bit (I think if they had just left them as they were they'd have been ok). Instead, they tried to give the world a New Game Experience and thought they'd make it a first person (or third) shooter. They had a unique game and turned it into a bad copy of just another shooter.
Don't think that a company that is so very badly nearsighted will change for the better, this has been going on long enough, sorry.
Exactly.
And welcome to the "refugees' camp".
The hutt over there with the "100.123" on its door, its yours:)
Feel free to call any of the pals here if you need help.
If you want to party, call "MeSmellFart", he is always up for something.
If you feel bad and need a shoulder, call Azhran - she is our "Theresa" here
If you need some infos of SWG - call "Obraik", he is our instructed mole for SWG (but shuuush, he doesnt figured it out so far....we brainwashed him and he REALLY thinks he likes the game).
The others are out placing some 5 pound bags with 10 pounds shi...under the welcome-mat of SoE's building and should be back soon.
Oh, i am the chef here, so if you want a big fat 800 gram medium-rare steak with garlic bread and idahoe-potato - im your man ! We have chocolate-mousee with wine for dessert btw, a must !
Welcome ....
Claude
Speaking of brainwashing - any gems from our man Wepps on this? Surely, he will provide the masses with some form of guidance*.
To be honest, i doubt it.
Wepps was getting TO annoying with his "ignore all i said before - only what i say NOW is valid - i want babys from Mr. Smedlove" attitude, so we (we is the "group" i am leading from eastern Europe...) had him for an...*Cough* "interview" here.... (Coldboot is the next one, the "group" is arriving in the U.K shortly...)
I think he went back to "pinball" together with his 68 yrs. old female friend down the street and is very happy there.
Claude
uuhmm...that was of course A JOKE.
You cant be carefull enough in the internet.
Just imagine Wepps being REALLY hijacked or whatever (seriously, i hope nothing like this) and the FBI reads this thread....LMAO, i hear my doorbell...brb
Claude
The flaw in that one is that you would assume he would be missed by someone enough to report his disappearance. Took us about a month to realize he left this watering hole. Though perhaps SOE might notice when their paychecks go uncashed...
Sorry for the derail - any news from the battle front - aka the SWG thread?
I imagine somebody did some quick math and realized they would lose a great many of their existing subscribers in the "holding on to hope" category if they didn't shovel out some more vague bs to keep them paying. Why on earth some people in the crafting and entertainer professions still continue to give those guys money when they have repeatedly given them virtual wedgies defies all logic.
The funny thing is that although the devs dump all over the non-combat types and do everything short of flat out calling them losers the people who play those characters are some of their most slavish devotees. I have friends who play crafters as their mains and some of those guys have as many as 10 or 15 accounts. So if the devs drive those players away they aren't just losing one player...they are losing a potentially huge chunk of their current revenue stream.
Awe guys.... *I* miss Wepps. I thought he was misled and often annoying, but I still enjoyed reading his posts. I wonder sometimes why he's missing.
I'm headed over to the Station forums in a few minutes to see what new and exciting shoes have dropped, if any. Nothing like SWG as a spectator sport, eh?
