"What is dead may never die..."

I think the original developers of "Dark and Light" probably introduced the world's gaming public to the concept of overpromised and underdelivered indie projects, lol

It was an epic mess of unfulfilled promises and even featured a lawsuit about alleged IP theft by the developers.

Given Snail Game's reputation, they will probably be resurrecting it with a very robust Cash Shop to animate the corpse... :D
The lawsuit was about the use / ownership of the BigWorld engine not the IP itself.

It certainly had issues at launch however - slow downloads, the patching - or was it an entire download every time?, secutity / DDOS issues. And then there were the 500k people who signed up wanting to demo the game who went on to complain that the original customers (testers) were those who paid them.

Somewhat sad as the graphic style, magic system and so forth were OK / had promise; quests - what there were - were mostly whack a rat; mobs were supposed to migrate away from hunters; had castle building although it needed work. Perhaps the biggest problem was that the world was ..... too big.

@lindhsky said: "With a big World like that I wish they don't make it smaller by having fast flying mounts and portals".

No the world was way, way to big. You could fly on your dragon for 20 minutes and not see a mob let alone another person. Think: transatlantic flight or flying over Nevada or flying over the Alps since there were a lot of mountains. If that is the type of game you want you buy a flight simulator! And at the end of the day that was pretty much all there was.

They refunded lots of people who bought it though so

It's been in development for 11 years?
If this is the "same" game then longer than that. Although at least some of the original work will have been involved in the engine. One suspects there may have been some "downtime" though in that period.

From memory I think it was single (mega) server as well - utilising work being done by (I think) by both IBM and MS.

I remember D&L. There was a lot of hype for that MMO. And afterwards, it has been long used as example how a company can fail to deliver on promises.

They had this beta stage called Settlers of Ganaret or something and that was so incredibly bad. The bugs were laughable. If anyone still remembers and think the launch of Vanguard: Sage of Heroes was bad, with the glaring bugs and bad performance, then you would not believe how bad Settlers of Ganaret was. It was the time when ' it is showing promise' was still being seriously used by the press and fanboys to overlook game destroying bugs.

Wasn't this the game where you were supposed to be able to have kids as well as knock people unconscious and imprison them?

Well... I'd suggest a name change... or at least a trigger warning to prevent people from having traumatic flashback moments when reading the game's title. ;)

F2P,  Asian grinder and 3rd party game engine for an MMORPG.

What could go wrong here?    LOL

Hell even in times in which I still had hope left for MMORPG genre I would not touch this.

Woah. Why would you use the same name of a game that went went down in history books as a scam... DnL was my first MMORPG that I bought before release and since there was no twitch back than and all we had were some montage footage, it was easy to create hype over nonexisting content. In the end all we got was a pre-pre-alpha empty demo world barely working. There were maybe 20 people who enjoyed it (I doubt they ever played an online game before) and  some lead devs packed money and ran, ie the game stoped being developed, probably on a release day.

The baggage behind this title the skeletons in the closet is pretty epic.

Saying that something has been in development since 2005 is NOT a good thing, it means the development ran into major trouble.

That is because they changed the game engine halfway through. Savage Horizon was originally developed with the Age of Wushu engine. Old screens from 2011:

It looks great, like most game trailers. Any idea when this is supposed to launch?

By the way elves, dinosaurs and fire balls in one game is a strange mix, in my opinion :).

This year, according to the trailer.

wow after all the corruption and theft involved with this project you are going to give them another chance to rip off gamers? Havent they stolen enough? Some of us paid these crooks twice for a game we never got.

what is the difference between "sandbox" and "true sandbox"?
Prior to release Black Desert and ArcheAge has been marketed as sandbox MMOs as well. But this one looks like a "true sandbox MMO" if you ask me.
That's because Arche Age was a sandbox before 1.0

Sorry to tell you but ArcheAge was never a Sandbox game.  Just because you can ride on a boat and say arrrrgghhh  alot does not make it a sandbox game.

Sandbox simply means that the game only gives you tools and how you use them is totally and completely up to you.  Archeage is a themepark game through and through.  They should be sued for claiming otherwise.

Before Savage Horizons there was Horizons.

I remember playing Dark and Light.  I played the beta test if it could be called that.  It was basically huge.  Meaning a small part to the map was just a large area.

Farlan Entertainment's and VWorld's major  egomaniacs couldn't get along, game was released early with a TON of bugs, Snail came in around 2006-2007 I think, but VWorld sued Fralan then Farlan sued Vworld - this thing was an epic mess.  Snail I believe has sole rights now, I could be wrong. They have been working on this thing for years.
The game was an explorers wet dream - the world is HUGE.  Back in 2006 snowboarding, hang gliding and  taming a flying dragon mount were pretty cool things, but common today. I personally enjoyed every minute I spent playing this game, even with all the bugs. It was a joke, but fun none the less.
With Snail's reputation, I am expecting the game will be a major disappointment and massive cash grab. I hope I am wrong.

Yeh same here.  Well I did watch the video and the game looks good, but the fact that Snail is involved pretty much erased it from my radar.

I remember being excited about this game once. I think that was during the Carter administration. But I would be up for giving it a second chance.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Stop depressing me.  Oh and yes I'll be playing dnl.  I can't resist sandboxes with huge open worlds.  Moth to light.

LOL! Dark and Light? This thing was a disaster of biblical proportions about 10 years ago. Google it for some serious /popcorn reading.

I learned long ago that game trailers are a joke. The game will look and play nothing like the video says.
