A young baseball star playing Pokemon Go in a very public place at a reasonable hour of night was shot and killed in what appears to be a random act of violence at a Pokestop on San Francisco's Aquatic Park near the city's largest tourist location. 20-year-old Calvin Riley, a budding collegiate baseball star, was shot in the chest and died, despite the efforts of first responders.

$40k for US funerals plus travel expenses for his family which is mostly based on the East Coast isn't out of line.

There is no indication that the perpetrator murdered this young man because of the game.
Don't spew hyperbole.

Isn't it obvious? Pokemon Go is THE DEBIL and people who play it are going are going to suffer for their sins, so we must ban Pokemon Go along with rap music, heavy metal music, drugs, chocolate, any soft drink in a cup larger than 8 ounces and the Purple Teletubby!
/sarcasm off
The implication that "if he hadn't been playing Pokemon then he wouldn't have been in the place where he got shot" is the same logic that allows people to say, "If she hadn't been wearing a short skirt at the night club then she wouldn't have gotten raped."
Watch the jackass political leaders start passing laws to regulate playing video games in public now. That will make us safe! What we need is more laws on the books and more government interference in our lives. You watch soon in every major city they're going to start issuing tickets for "distracted walking".
The mixed messages in our society are crazy. They will give you a ticket for texting and driving but now every single new car is a Wi-Fi hotspot. Huh? We've got cars that can park for you but they still only get 17 miles to the gallon? What? Seriously I love when they start boasting about cars getting 40 miles to the gallon. The Volkswagon Beetle did that back in World War II. You mean to tell me we've put a man on the moon, but fuel efficiency in the internal combustion engine hasn't changed in 70 years? They've put a computer on everyone's hip, but they don't want you to use it?
That's it. I quit trying to figure this crap out.
Many a small thing has been made large by the right kind of advertising.
I would like to know why my post was deleted amongst other posts. You can't post a piece and then not receive commentary back. I make a valid point and it's "censored" even after it's agreed upon amongst others.

In all fairness, what you're suggesting is a slippery slope of awfulness. If what you're saying is true then you're suggesting that Pokemon Go has some responsibility for his death. If this same thing is true, then iMessage, for instance, would be equally responsible for deaths related to texting and driving, correct? Or McDonald's ice cream would be responsible for any deaths related to random acts of violence that happened to gun down a family who was sitting outside McDonald's enjoying a nice family night out? Are you being serious? Honestly, I'm not even sure how you're making that connection. It's a matter of happenstance. He did happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and he may have been playing Pokemon Go, but there is absolutely no blame to be placed on a game for him being in that place at that time.
