Whats better. Guildwars or World Of Warcraft

pepjagpepjag Member Posts: 4

In my school, I hear people saying Guildwars is hells better, and I also hear people saying WoW is better and I want to get more experienced player decisions. In my opinion, Guildwars is way better than World of Warcrap.

Get Guildwars.

They're similar in many ways, its just the approach is different.  Just look at various site ratings, like rottentomatoes, and such to see.

If you already have an opinion you should follow it.  Both games are "enjoyable" in there own fasion.  Asking which is better is like asking:

Which is better "Nacho Supreme or Chile Cheese fries" both will fill your belly.  Some people will like both, others will only enjoy one.  Seems a silly thing to argue doesn't it?

Get both, play Guild Wars when WoW servers are down or when you are queuing in Battleground.

    No annoying animated GIF here!

Well maybe you should STOP playing WoW and go for Guildwars. It has way better graphics and gameplay. You can upgrade much better, and best thing is, you only have to pay about 40 to 50 dollars and you have the entire game and the account to play (there is no monthly fee). With WoW, you have to pay for the game AND pay 15 dollars a months to play. For example...

Playing Guildwars for 8 months: 50.00
Playing WoW for 8 months: 120.00

That is more than DOUBLE for what you get for Guildwars and it is worse than GW. So stop playing WoW and please get Guildwars.

    Get Guildwars.

Well I'd say Guild Wars because I like the over all game play better...besides that Guild Wars has Awesome graphics and its free monthly.

    GW FTW!

here goes a post i did in guildwars guru site about my build , im sure you wont get anything about it , but gives you some hint about whats going on in guildwars

you know we have ( with factions ) 8 professions , char can have 2 professions , there are 900 skills , and you can only take 8 to battle . so the game starts in seting up your char . just like other mmorpgs , but becose we can only take 8 to battle , chosing the skill combination is where the master lives. many skills work diferently with other skills combining.

so its gw better then wow , i dont know what better is , but from what ive seen of wow , guildwars is much harder. if harder is better , that depends on taste. i dont mean to say wow is not good becose its easyer , the game play is totaly diferent , but i know guildwars fills your brain a lot more with math , you have to experiment skill combinations almost endless.

a post i made about what is the best elite skill for elementarist in guru

    --------------------------------------
since energy is what we need more , with this build i can be casting non stop. all heavy dmg skills and dobble showers .. i didnt find any better nuker build for pve yet.

    ele/mesmer

    ragos flame staff

    sup rune of fire
    sup rune of energy storage
    sup rune of vigor

    16 fire
    15 energy storage
    3 inspiration

    mantra of resolve
    arcane echo
    meteor shower
    glyph of energy
    rodgors invocation
    meteor
    fireball
    rez sig

and goes like this , mantra of resolve , arcane echo , meteor shower , glyph of energy , meteor shower ( the one in arcane place ) , meteor , fire ball , glyph of energy ( by this time glyph is recharged ) , rodgors invocation , meteor , fireball , glyph of energy , meteor shower ... and so and so on , when arcane echo comes up , dobble shower goes ... resolve also always goes on everytime it comes on ... sometimes is not needed but im used to cast it all the time , so i wont get interupted , its anoying

WoW you can play while sleeping. AKA the reason there are
bots... the game is that simple.  Guild wars requires an amount of
    thought, before and while playing.

You can play GWs mindlessly, but why would you?

GWs is like Magic the Gathering (the card game) personified.  You think up a build for your character
picking from the above stated 900 some skills, you then play it to test its
effectiveness and the make changes accordingly.
Of course the effectiveness of any character also depends on the skill
of the player behind it (just like in Magic).
Just because two people are using the same build, doesn’t mean one won’t
    get owned.

The complexity increases exponentially when you consider you
can design builds for 1 person, or a team of 4,8, or soon to be 12.  Of course if you really wanted a simple game
you could dumb down the entire system and just steal a build from a website and
try to play it, honestly, sad as it is, that is probably what most players
do.  I doubt more then 10% of the GW
population ever designed and tested a novel 8 person build. *shrugs*  If anything making your own build is important
for the simple fact  in time it results
in you to memorizing the effect of every single skill in the game, so you can
    react faster in PvP situations

I was talking about the above from a PvP perspective, but
the exact same thing is relevant to the PvE game.  Looking on websites you will see PvP and PvE
builds. Of course player skill isn’t quite as important in the PvE part of the
game since it isn’t competitive.  Skill
is still important, but you can pace yourself slower to make up for mistakes or
other effects that come from a lack of current player skill.

I suggest you follow the advice given and buy the game, and if nothing else just play when your server is down in WoW.

in World of Warcraft you get a game that can keep you busy for months, can play with thousands of people at the same time and gets new content added every few months or so

Guild Wars is a combination of Magic the gathering and Counterstrike with small Pve added, and you will get very little content added. it keeps you busy for 2 weeks or so.hence the lack of a monthly fee. there are exceptions ofcourse.

Don't let the fanbois fool you. World of Warcraft is indeed the superior game here. the only reason so many people here say Guild Wars is better because they simply can't pay a monthly fee. and thats a fact.

Nah, I played WoW for a bit but i prefer Guild Wars, I'm not playing because it's free(although it's very nice)but everyone got his own taste. You say you got fun for about 2 weeks, well I got allready fun for more then 11 months with GW.

WoW PvP is a joke though.  That alone is enough reason to ignore it, if you want a PvP game.  Waiting in line for mintutes to hours to get a match that lasts no time at all.  That and any game without collesion detection is bound to have inferior PvP always, you get stupid crap like jousting and run throughs.

Then of course there is all of the downtime and the server being full and such.   That's probably why many people suggest you get GW as a side game.  Which is fine, as you said GW doesn't have all that much PvE content.  It has just enough to keep you busy while WoW is down.  Since it isn't p2p you can do that without feeling your aren't getting your monies worth.

WoW is the "China" of the MMO world now.  Has the most players of any American based MMO.  Yet you would be hard pressed to get people to say it is the best MMO to date.  Most of us tend to think back to our past games, and feel depressed looking at what is currently out and playable.

Online PvP games are almost always Free to Play.  Planetside just went free, BF2, counterstrike.  Anet just followed suit.  I don't think anyone can say WoW is a better game then BF2.  As they are so unrelated to each other.  We also all know PvP games aren't nearlly as popular as PvE games.

DAoC and EQ were worth $12+ a month.  DDO isn't worth $12 a month, and some of us don't think WoW is either (mostly do to all the presisting server problems then game play).  Moving to WoW from EQ or DAoC is like eating hamburger for steak prices.  Of course GW isn't worth $12 a month either, but at least Anet was smart enough not to try to do p2p, Turbine doing p2p with DDO is a joke.

If I decided to play GW do you have to buy both the original game and the expansion?

    from http://www.guildwars.com/aboutgw/faq/guildwarsfactions-faq.php

Is Guild Wars Factions an expansion pack or a stand-alone game?

Guild Wars Factions is a stand-alone product. Those who own Guild Wars are not required to purchase Guild Wars Factions in order to continue playing on their game account, and those who purchase Guild Wars Factions may play without purchasing Guild Wars. However, there is a strong level of interconnection between the two games that makes having them both an exceptional experience.

  • BentBent Member CommonPosts: 581
Just keep in mind once Factions releases the areas on the first game will become more empty as everyone moves to factions to try it out.  This could make it harder to find people to play with.

They are both pritty good games but Guild Wars wins on it's amazing price.

    >_<

Log on now and start clicking on random mission icons... Aside from the hard ones like THK and Glade (4 people) and the RoF missions most don't have enough people sitting in a district one to make a full group.

This is because most people are at end game.  Whatever the reason, the point is, if you wanted to make a team of 8 in certain missions right now you wouldn't be able to.

If half of the people currently playing move to and focus on Factions, expect the numbers to drop more.

Now to an experienced player this may not be a big deal because we can probably solo or duo every mission.  But a newb player could find themselves struggling.  The jungle missions are an excelent example of this, right now those mission are sporting an average of about 5 people per missions.  Now this may be because many people skip the jungle missions.  Still that is irrelavent.  Empty is Empty.  This is at 11:30, how do you think it will look at 2am?  So newbs should be warned.  If you would rather me say, you probably won't be able play through the PvE part of the game in a full group except at prime time, I suppose I could have specificly said that.  But I believed my above post, general as it was covered that statement.

If their are over 50k people playing right now, that doesn't help a newb unless enough of those people are playing in the same area as the newb.  Certain areas can be empty while others are booming.  Once Factions releases do you expect to still the same number of people running chars 1-20 in phophets.  My guess is most people will move over and try doing 1-20 in the faction areas for awhile.  Thus, I am assuming there will be less people doing 1-20 in phophets, so assume the average number of players per mission will drop.

LoL the only way I would play WoW if it were free is if people had to prove their age.

WoW is already a game that seems incredibly inmature.  If it were free it would only be worse, as every single 13yo would probably start to play.

That said, that is the reason GW seems so immature.  The only difference between WoW and GWs is you get to see chuck norris and yur mom justs here for free, while you have to play $12 a month to see them in WoW.  I'm not one to pay to be annoyed.

Since this is a Guild Wars forum, I would say WoW is definitely better.
