There is no PR team. It's part of the reason we don't see a lot of LotRO stories. As Turbine shifts to mobile, they're probably just milking LotRO and DDO until they can close or unload them on a small publisher.

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

For me, when I play Shadows of Morodor I get a far more "middle earth" feeling than Lord of the Rings Online.

I hate how they went with the art style.

I hope for the sake of the IP and the remaining players LOTRO and DDO get the love they deserve. They have fantastic communities.

It's a shame that game companies are chasing so hard to get mobile game money. I can't blame them for wanting to earn billions instead of millions. When people ask me why I am such a fan of Kickstarter I point to situations like this.

Yeh, along with my never ending complaints on their animations is the overall art style. When reading the books I always envisioned a dirty, grimy lived in world. Turbine's aesthetic is very ornamental and very "clean" overall. That mixed with the horrendous and amateur animations makes it a hard MMO for me to get immersed in. However, looks aside it still is a great game and I'm glad to see they are still hitting their milestones that they set back in 2007.

Agreed but I understand why the move to mobile gaming, most of the casual players that started to game with WoW have moved there by now and PC MMOs is moving towards the niche it was in before WoW.

In 2004 people needed a PC to access the internet so many people that previous thought gamers were geeks owned one and tried gaming but now most of them use phones and tablets for the net and logically game on them instead.

On the plus side does that probably mean that MMOs will turn in a different direction now.

Not to be a debbie downer negative ms nancy.

But this tells me that people who keep saying LOTRO won't be re-licensed next year (2017) are much more likely correct.

If this is the "end" of the story like it is in the books and movies...they have nowhere else to go with the game. They are following the storyline, this is it. This is literally the end, game over, finished.

On top of that, a down sized team, a focus on mobile gaming and many other rumors going around...it looks like this will be the last expansion to LOTRO. I mean, where can they go from here? Mordor is literally the endgame, the very end in LOTR.

I redownloaded the game 2 weeks ago in an attempt to see the new content (Helm's Deep, Gondor). I only played for a couple days. It's just very aged and the idea of leveling a character up 100 levels is daunting. They streamlined the story quests to make them all soloable, but you still need to grind other quests.

It would be nice if they just boosted the XP from the story quests so you only need to complete them to progress through the older parts. Then I think I could handle it.

Not necessarily, the game was never going to "end" with the story as they had said that they wanted to explore the "after" story.

As a Lotro beta player who spent thousands of hours in the game for the first 5 years I'm glad they finally got to Mordor. Yet, I no longer like the game, it's direction, or the developer enough to ever return. Maybe now that they've hit Mordor the clock will start ticking towards the next attempt at a Lotr mmo.

Though I'm sort of with you (was in the first betas and was an active player up to and including moria) I don't believe there will be another lord of the rings mmo. Not for many years at least.

For those of us who haven't lost interest this is freaking awesome.

I lost interest a long time ago but now that I'm bored of Legion I think it's time to return to LOTRO for the first time since Rohan was released. I have a lifetime sub so luckily it wont cost me anything.

I don't think the license is getting renewed so I'd say try it out before it's gone.

this game is on its way out - there's no point. they could have stuff like dealing with harad and scouring the shire after sauron dies. But the license ends in 2017 and they haven't announced anything

I think their original plans went out the window with the need to release a mini expac in mirkwood. Everything after that was small in scope compared with Moria.

Turbine would likely earn a nice little bunch of cash if they effectively finish this and reshape it into a properly paced progression game on rolling servers so players can cycle through the story arc.

    Learn from Blizzard's mistakes.

I think mmo developers can actually discover how to keep a steadily cycle of players in an mmo: Never leave beta and actually "finish" mmo development by rolling out progression servers that can be relived nearly at any time, at any stage on different servers.

It is proving to be a successful model on emulators for old mmos yet rarely (if ever) taken full ownership of by the original developer. It's absolutely crazy if you think about it. These developers launch of what is effectively a developing beta version of a future complete game ... and then toss it away once it's actually done!

Hell, even a company such as Blizzard literally wrote over their original game making it unplayable (under their hosting). If you look at it a certain way there's madness involved or at least extreme myopia.

    You stay sassy!

Could you link the official confirmation that the license has ended next year.
