Wow...just when I thought I couldn't get any madder at SOE/LA I made the mistake of thumbing through the latest issue of Star Wars Insider while killing time at Barnes and Noble this weekend. I saw a two page write up on SWG and thought I'd see what they had to say.
Now, I understand that they're trying to promote their product and everything, but I find it pretty insulting that with all the outcry and the outright betrayal of the original customer base, the article had the nerve to go on and on about how much better the game is now than it ever has been in the past, and as a side note stated, "be prepared to hear some griping from the 'die hard player base' but don't pay any attention to them, the game really is much better now.
A tremendously insulting statement IMHO that as has been indicated by others (in at least one poster's signature) confirms that SOE/LA really does appear to believe that they know better than the hundreds of thousands of cancelled subsribers what we want.
I really do hope that someone else is able to produce a similar style of game to what SWG once was...because at this point even IF they put the game back to an enjoyable state, I would have a really hard time returning to a company that has so little regard for it's customers.

I can't really blame them, they need all the PR they can get. Kinda like those Truth commercials.
Is it this signature?

At least I don't think they are.... I know they can be pretty mean and capable of making stupid decisions, just like SOE. However with what we know so far, and one of the Devs (can't remember which) confirming that the NGE was NOT forced on them by LA, I tend to believe that SOE's incompetence knows no boundaries.

Ive finally found a post to agree with you on. YAY. I never have understood why so many give LA a pass everything thats happened.

Yup, Duncan, your sig was the one I was thinking of.
I think your right, they WILL fully support SWG because SOE continues to pay them for their IP. Why wouldn't they. I still stand by the Licensing change in Feb though. I think it DID happen. But I don't think it was about SOE losing the contract, I think it was about LA taking back SOE's right to make ALL SW themed MMOs. I think LA wants to fish it around to more companies. Like I said, LA is all about the money. Why wouldn't they try to sell the SW IP to few different companies who would all pay them for the same product. All LA has to do is supply them with the rights. It's like selling a car twice. Especially if the two games we're made in different time periods? They probably wouldn't even effect eachother's playerbase. I'm not gonna get into WHO got the contract, cause that's all speculation, but from a business stand point, it only makes sense for LA to try and sell it's IP around a bit. I forsee a new SW MMO in development, but that's all I'll speculate on. I don't think it'll be Pre-CU, I think it'll be something completely new, maybe with a mix and match of features we've seen in SWG.

IMO it would make little sense for LA to invest into SWG . Yet at the same time help create something that would compete with it .

Hi, if what is said is true in this article [I haven't seen it yet] then LA marketing department are idiots beyond idiots, because they just got done insulting a strong loyal base of players who simply want a decent game, and are tired of the spin and lies. Also, I think they are going to be sorely surprised that this game, which has been dieing for a while now, will finally kick the bucket in the next few months if they continue on the course they are now.
IMO,

LA is just being an enabler at this point.

See, I don't think LA has anything to lose. What do they "invest" in SWG? They pay Julio and a few of his staff. They don't pay developers, they don't pay for hardware. Julio could very well work on both titles. They MAY pay for advertising, but advertising works for them no matter what title they are pumping up. They are still pumping up Star Wars video games. Money they use selling SWG helps sell other SW games, and they know it. And if you look at it from LA's perspective, yeah the two companies who get the contracts may compete with eachother for subs, however LA wins no matter what. They still make their money no matter what happens. Say the new company saps subs from SWG. Guess what? LA STILL gets paid, they STILL keep their customers. Best case scenario for them? This new game pulls in crazy subs, people play if for a while and get bored, decide to switch to SWG, or vice versa. Again, it's all under LA's umbrella, what do they really care WHERE the players are as long as they are playing a SW game.

If anything they may have a contract in place to help fund SWG , Until maybe 2008 when they would be ready to shut SWG down and release a sequal or prequal<~~

If they staffed like they had WoW's numbers they'd have been in chapter 11 long ago.

Of course LA are going to publicly say they support SWG. Do you think they'd come out and say, "Hey folks, avoid this steaming pile of crap from the Star Wars franchise." Hell no they won't.
LA and SOE are in bed together, they both reap what they've sown. LA are still in the crap house after the 3 consecutive turds they released call Star Wars Episode 1, 2, 3. Neither entity is innocent in this.
It is a gimme. Telling the truth?
Get in now, the nerf race is on! Today it's a leveling quest, tommorow its for yet another chunk of armor or weap that is the same as the other 40 that you have!!
Or
Join soon because were already packing!
Or
SOE brings democracy to the Star Wars Universe. They will nerf the insurgents, bring stability to the player base and peace to the galaxy!!
The Insider is pretty much a fluffy promotional mag and not to be taken too seriously. Its like one big advertisement. Even if they were planning a new game with a new publisher, they would have to act like all is peachy with the current game. In their fluffo mag, you get fluff.
Athela
whats remarkable and a mistake is to mention the flap from former players. Stating that there are players out there with issues with the game is a big no no in advertising.
I seriously wonder sometimes about the incompetence of LA and SOE. I've seen time and again many mistakes in their public relations and ads that any Communications Major junior would notice.
Me thinks LA/SOE use in-house people with general Business Admin degrees (or no degree at all). tsk tsk
The thing that gets me about the comment (Don't listen to the die hards ...) is the fact they had to say that at all. If there game was okedoke peachy keen it would sell itself. You know there are problems when they HAVE to make a comment about the user base. If anything I can see it blowing up in their faces. You know some people out there are going to be thinking.. Die hard player base.... upset... wth is up with that....

Of this game and SOE yeah. I'm still waiting for another better SW MMO.

Heh, I'm perfectly aware of that, but unfortunately there are a few here that aren't
I can't really see how LA could have SWG run by SOE and another SW MMO run by another company. Unless they were entirely different game types, there would be a conflict of interest. Threesomes always end in tears
