Yeh nothing cant beat pc for me. But sometimes a mario or zelda game or mario party/arms/1-2 switch with friends and family can be fun.
I have a job where when I am busy I dont have time for a 15 minute break in an 8 hour shift. But, when we are slow, we are sloooow. I have been taking my 3ds and vita to work, I am an avid rpg/mmorpg fan and have been for about 20 years now. The 3ds and vita really only have a small handful of worthwhile action rpgs. The switch launching with the new zelda game and Skyrim coming to the system alone have sold me on the switch. I placed my preorder this morning and am looking forward to long days at work geeking out lol.
I tend to be an early adopter of tech any ways, so yeah.
More so though, the Switch uses mostly the same hardware as the Nvidia Shield. Inevtiably I'll try hacking the Switch and installing a standard Android OS on it along with Moonlight so that I can use it as my Nintendo console as well as a general purpose tablet and game-stream device for my PC.
Hopefully they will also be migrating mobile games to there so I can substitute it for my DS as well, then I'll basically have been able to bundle up the function of 3 or 4 devices into one.
Will wait on real world reviews before considering.

Personally i thought the Wii U was a mistake, the Switch is more affordable than the PS4/XB1, but it doesn't really compare favourably with either Console, and for the price as a handheld device, i just don't see it, and while there is an interesting line up of developers that 'might' be supporting it, there is a huge question mark over which ones actually will and to what degree. As a mobile device it will probably do well, but i don't see it as a home console, there are better options, ones which have far more storage memory etc. than the Switch offers
Pretty sure its actually more expensive than the ps4 or xbox.
I will probably get one eventually, but not right out the gate. The real selling point to me is it being region free. Still have to see about how game distribution supports or detracts from that though.
Every Nintendo console i ever owned had no more than like 2 titles that interested me, so at some time i stopped buying Nintendo consoles for a single certain game.
Their portfolio of "fun, family and kids" games don't interest me. Most are too shallow, odd or childish for my taste and i'm not going to buy every new system for just another Zelda or MarioCart.
I guess that grumpy old men just don't happen to be among their target audience.

that is a valid concern, if you dont like games like Metroid, the Shin Megami Tensei series, Bayonetta 2 (if nintendo decides to port it to switch since they funded that games development), and many other franchises that are not designed for kids.
My last Nintendo platform was a GBA back in the day, until last year when i bought a wiiu and a 3ds. I just play any game i find fun. If it happens to be a kids game like mario or a more mature game like SMT, im ok with that. I personally dont need to see realistic gore and guns to feel at home with a game due to my age. Its all about fun for me.
Im actually glad i came back to the big N. I love my PS4(and 3, and 2, and vita) but Sony and MS are way to deep into the console vs PC + VR nonsense. Nintendo stays true to making fun games for the couch.
Because you're a member of a fansite where we frivolously waste money on games and fantasy stuff? Why are you even here with that kind of comment? Oh, right your digital entertainment purchases aren't frivolous. They're meaningful, unless you're really "you know who" and haven't paid for gaming in 20 bazillion years.
Maybe you need to research the term "frivolously", I don't think it means what you think it means.
You can indeed be a video game fan and not spend frivolously it all depends on the budget your willing to put/can afford on games.
On the other hand I can understand why you take exception with his comment since he says it with no explanation.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I said no because nothing about the system really interests me. There are 2 reasons that could change my mind if they were to happen (which I don't think they will).
1. If the started releasing a bunch of jrpgs on the system like you find on the 3ds 2. They change it so you can play 3ds games on the system.
I like the 3ds solely for the type of games on there that I cannot find anywhere else. If I could get that in console form, even an underpowered one, I would jump on it.
Also it would have to be more than just a few games too. The few they happened to mention like Shin Megami Tensei, I was never actually a fan of that series lol.

My point is that our entire hobby is a frivolous expense. You can't go into a video game store and not spend frivolously. Nothing about our hobby is really serious or purposeful outside of first world distractions.
That's not true at all.
You can love video games and have a very limited budget that makes you think carefully each time you buy a game or moreso a new console.
If you need to put serious though into "should I buy this and can I really afford it" then it's not a "frivolous" purchase.
If you can just chuck 300 or 400$ at this without serious thought or a care in the world then yea it's frivolous.
Like I said google the term and learn what it means.

I'll wait and see - just like I'll wait and see on project scorpio - The xb1 has been a complete failure in my eyes, they had the opportunity to kick some ass this time around in the console war and they just failed. They could have done so much more but Microsoft didn't, they still talk about keyboard and mouse support for instance ... well guess what you already announced a next gen system, so who cares what you do with xb1 one at this point, they could have easily just made it into a win 10 system merged pc gamers with xb1 console players and created a massive pool of potential revenue, but instead they just did the same old and that really didn't work because PS4 kicked xb1's ass and actually if you just look at the past year, PS4 is really kicking ass, not only against xb1, but against pc, and now even VR systems. Right now the PS4 is a pretty hot item. Bring it all back to Nintendo Switch, if I got some extra cash sitting around, and I want a new gaming system, I'm picking up a PS4 and starting to build my game library on the PSN, that's the system that's dishing out new content with a wide variety and fun gameplay, more so than mobile, tablet, xb1, and even pc. The ironic thing is all this is happening on a console in 2017, it's really quite remarkable when in 2014 and 2015 the death of the console was predicted.
Voted no. But I will get it someday when they charge a fair price for it. $400CAD is just ridiculous for a console that is so under-powered. They also basically abandoned the Wii U which was stupid as there were a lot of cool things they could have done on the second screen. Then they create the artificial shortage for the NES Classic. Also, the switch only has 2-2.5hrs of gaming time when not plugged in. Don't be fooled by the 2.5-5hr rating, you will only reach 5 hours web browsing with the screen dimmed. Otherwise I would expect actual gaming time to be 2 hours.
Just an update to my first post. I was for sure gonna get it sooner than later before, but now I will wait.
Nintendo just screams "gimmick" to me whenever I see one of their products. Half of me respects that they understand that they can't dominate the market and go for a family oriented system that's underpowered but tries to innovate. It's leagues better than a console trying to emulate a PC when I can just have a freakin' PC to begin with.
Though as a whole the last Nintendo system that I've owned was the N64.
Their recent products and toys just seem like... well, toys to me. Which is a funny statement, but I don't see why plastic figures of characters sell just because they can be digitized or something in a game. Or trying to capture digital creatures on a phone. Despite being a Pokémon fan when I was a kid, and watching the first few seasons of the cartoon.
Not to mention that they're horrible at acclimating to different markets or understanding foreign advertisement in a growing digital and video world.
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing). German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century. Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now). I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things). In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while. If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this. If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own. Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis. Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.
Voted no, while I own a Wii, which was fun with the kids, they after awhile found it to babyish and now its gathering dust on the TV unit. Did have a good look at the new offering but was left with the impression that if they had spent a little less time with the gimmicks and more on the inner workings of the console, maybe it wont look so weak and underpowered, same could be said for Wii, but it did fill a niche back then, but that niche isn't really there any more so yeah this console is 5 years to late.
Nothing about it seems especially new or game-changing. I can play hundreds of games on my iPhone but i dont, because i much prefer to be in the comfort of my own home in front of my PC when playing games. If im outside doing something then im focusing on whatever it is im doing, and not playing games.
I will be honest, I thought it would be 299 with a game. I mean come on ps4/xbone are cheaper and got "better" hardware. I cant see it taken to trips alot, maybe when we going to visit family but when going to a park or themepark etc no.
Butttttt cause of mario and zelda I will def buy, my oldest one plays alot on the 3ds mario he loves it, so does my wife.

I will buy anything that has any Shin Megami Tensei games.
