I imagine a non-MMOer fanbase would be higher than what I'm seeing here. So looks like the Switch will be pretty successful, even if I have only "not enough" interest in it.

I actually think the Switch is the kind of Console MMO players would go for, as generally PC competes with Xbox and PS, not so much with the Nintendo Consoles.
Switch is ideal for Families, Kids under 14 and Adults over 30. I say Teenagers and Young Adults go for PS and Xbox.
Nintendo is filling the gap in the market and that's good business, it doesn't have to compete with the other two and it will reap the benefits.
Heck no lets just say that have zero care about console gaming when I have around 1500+ games at my disposal in my steam library +shitload of others on gog/origin
No, to anyone who thinks this is useful to adults, I have to wonder about your thought process. Strictly a kids console. Just look at what kind of games are available for it, all kids games. Unless you are a big fan of nintendo only games, there is nothing of value here.
The chances of this console being successful are slim and none. With that in mind, the game developers will mostly give this console a pass. If you are buying it because you think there will be a lot of games for it, you are deluding yourself.

That was what I thought before I saw the price, now I just smile when I see people saying this is a worthwhile console. The chances of this console being successful is slim and none. With that in mind, the game developers will mostly give this console a pass.

Really? It is like 2017 and people still claim playful games on their aesthetics are for kids? Because it has colors on it? And distorted often geometric shapes?
Wow... I thought this was a gaming forum... What's next? Video game brakes the television? If you play too much time you get cross-eyed?
I think this console is going to fail catastrophically in the US and I'll be laughing while it happens. Nintendo deserves it. Monumental hubris lead them to this point.
Thats about $400 Canadian after tax. It depends on what else the switch can do. Can I watch movies on it? Can I use it for nextflix and youtube? Im in the camp of maybe.
You can Netflix on the Wii U and the 3DS. I would imagine you can on the Switch.
“All of our efforts have gone toward making the Nintendo Switch system an amazing dedicated video game platform, so it will not support any video-streaming services at launch. However, support for video-streaming services is being considered for a future update,” said Nintendo

There is some new news out about the Switch, if you want to play online, you need a smartphone with the app installed to support it, so, no smartphone, no online play.

I didnt watch the video yet. But I think its only when you dont got wifi right? It prob wont support sim cards for 4g, so you need your mobile 4g, make it an hotspot and connect for wifi on the switch for playing online on the go?

You also need the nintendo smartphone app to handle matchmaking for online games, while its not stated explicitly, the implication is that its needed whether you are on the go, or sat at home in front of the TV, the smartphone app also handles voice comms in games on the Switch, so its looking like the smartphone app is absolutely integral to playing online games regardless of whether on the go, or at home. O.o
I would get it as I like Nintendo games, but I am finding Consoles are a bit hard on the eyes. They often have fairly poor frame rates. Even the modern ones. I also don't like the clutter.
It's too bad Nintendo isn't just a game developer. They could develop their games for PC and tablet. They wouldn't have to worry about gimmicky hardware. They could also make virtual reality games. Having Legend of Zelda games sold through steam would be great.
I don't think people are looking to buy more hardware at this point.
I will most likely buy it before 12/01 so im assuming "Yes" means before December here. Im even on the fence on getting it on release (or asap). Hell, if I catch a day 1 pre-order (in the five minutes its up) before March 3rd, Ill probably impulse buy it. I know itll probably collect dust between April and October and the likelyhood of a bundled Zelda for the same price around November is pretty high, but still ... there is always a better deal if you wait long enough.
Besides, I like the console in a "new and interesting" sort of way, the support its been getting from developers sounds promising, and I can even use its portable console feature a few times a week. Ill be getting it sooner or later. If I dont at or near release, ill probably get the first deal I see near the holidays.
One thing i really like about Nintendo is that they focus on gameplay so they can make games run better with their unique art style and more colorful aesthetic.
Nintendo has the highest chance of being the most relevant console maker (when they dont screw up) because they are not trying to chase PC glorious graphics. On the other hand, Sony and Microsoft (i guess it's because of western influence) have the wrong priorities with focusing so much on realism and the best graphics they can get at the cost of performance, knowing (and completely ignoring) the fact that that is what PC gaming is for and does it better.
Eventually, if SONY and MS keep going the PC route, they will get to a point where people would consider building a gaming PC rather than buying a PS or XB. XB is already pushing people to PC with W10/play anywhere.
When SONY and MS realize their biggest mistake was chasing PC graphics, it will be too late, and Nintendo will laugh so hard while getting their crown back.
And no,i'm not a Nintendo Fanboy, my main gaming platform has always been playstation since ps2, but i will call out anyone making stupid decisions. I still hate sony for what they did to the vita. I even have more vita games than ps4 games.

You're exactly the type of consumer Nintendo is banking on.
You seem rather hostile towards Nintendo, did they kill your firstborn? I for one won't let childish anger or so called 'maturity' get in the way of playing awesome games. And with 3 exclusive must have games on the horizon already I will be buying one for sure. I don't care about its processor power or attitude, I care about the games and the games only. Will wait until the first batch has been sold though, no hurry here.

My thoughts.
That's an interesting perspective.
Where Microsoft and Sony get things right, though, is their digital content distribution, which is where Nintendo get's it horribly wrong. Add to that Nintendo's draconian enforcement of their copyright, which understandably rubs a lot of game reviewers the wrong way, I doubt they're getting any crown back in the foreseeable future.
True, N always screw that one up, but they seem to slowly be getting on track, starting by removing region lock and finally tying all your digital purchases to your Nintendo account instead of a particular hardware, which was insane and archaic. They definitely should work on improving digital content distribution.

Sony and MS just have a different audience. Are you saying PS4 cant do the colorful cartoony "unique" art style of Nintendo? Sure it can. Breath of the Wild can be just as amazing on PS4 or Vita than on Switch.

This is true. Specially now that theyre seemingly getting into the habit of just releasing upgrades. May as well stay on PC's now, theyre more useful, last longer, and you can probably keep up with consoles by buying a $150 video card every 4 years instead of an entire $400 console.
"Upgrades" are just the final straw, theyve becoming PCs since Xbox with its OS, having to deal with its GUI, then there is installations, DLC ... bah. Actually, part of the appeal for the Switch (to me) is the fact theyre going back to installation free "carts." (Seriously, I hope they get dirty and you have to blow on it :awesome: )
They still have the OS, digital sales, DLC and now phone app integration... but thats just the way it is now I guess. That artificial scarcity tactic of thiers is getting old and starting to piss me off.

True, That is why i said its because of western influence. The best selling games in the west are Call of Duty, GTA, and Fifa. All realistic with top notch graphics, while a big number of really cool colorful games, usually more beautiful, with more varied gameplay, most of the time with better and more interesting story on any platform, get overshadowed because they dont look like the 3 i mentioned. The majority of the western market is heavily driven by graphics and realism, mainly.
Maybe i was born in the wrong continent lol. Less than 1/4 of my gaming library(physical library, excluding steam) is western games with realistic graphics.
Well, I really want to play the new Zelda game when it comes out so I might have to!
It's supposed to release for the WiiU too unless they change direction. But I'm just waiting to see what Switch only features it will have that makes the WiiU version suckier.
wiiu sucks ass. horrible console. i wouldnt play it on that pile off ass. definetly going to play it on the switch

Breath of the Wild was originally sold as a Wii U game before the Nintendo NX was even announced. It'd better work well on the Wii U considering there are people who bought the Wii U primarily to play that game.
since the wiiu has been out for years, i seriously hope no one bought it for zelda. dumbass mistake. i have a wiiu and its a steaming pile of monkey poo. my son loves it but every time he gets a new game, he has to delete crap to make room. also having to use the main controller all the time and not just the pro controller is also idiotic. im sure zelda will play much smoother on the switch even if it wasnt originally designed for it.

It can fail big but also succes, imo the price is too high for an outdated "console" it cost €330 without a game, while ps4 more power cost 288..
Dont let me start about the prices for the accessories
