If it's your very first time it will go a lot better if you watch a getting started video from YouTube as the process isn't very intuitive, you will have lots of questions about how to find your ship, how all the controls work, and what's the best way to do a test flight before jumping into the verse.

I did two fly around's and was so turned off i exited the game within 5 minutes.
The longest time i spent in game was to check out the Hangar and that really is nothing special.
For a Hangar i expected to see immersion and QUALITY ideas like npc's to repair your ships or npc's doing other things, tools laying around and parts etc etc,i mean it is instanced anyhow so not like there is any worries.
Having said that ,i felt like the hangar frame rates were terrible, like a really bad engine or the mapper does not know how to utilize the engine for mapping.

The space station does look ok,but took them like a year to get that up for show so yeah, this team seems to be really lacking in skills.

    >>> this team seems to be really lacking in skills. >>>

This team that "lacks skills" has created a long series of successful LEGO games.

The teams 'supervisors have worked on some of the most successful games ever (e.g. Ultima series, Blizzard games etc.)

The teams' bosses have created some of the most well known game IPs (Wing Commander, Freelancer etc.).

This teams' engine coders have created one of the most well known game engines (CryEngine) and now continue their improvement work in this new company after CryTek ran into serious trouble.

And yet, for everyone who worked on any of these, there are 10 or more people who also worked on it and are not working on Star Citizen.

Wing Commander was a huge success, Freelancer already less so. Richard Garriot was the man behind the Ultima series, but everyone here is complaining about Shroud of the Avatar. CryEngine is *one* of the most well known game engines, yes, but a far cry (no pun intended) from Unreal Engine, Source Engine or even Unity right now. And there's a reason CryTek ran into serious trouble and that Digital Anvil was dissolved.

And even if everyone who is working on SC right now was the main factor behind the success of their earlier works, that doesn't mean that they work well together. Even when a studio delivers a very good game, doesn't mean the successor will be just as good, and thats without changing the whole team, having to set up a whole new studio and creating something completely from scratch, compared to being able to build on the first game.

If anything, the recent history of Kickstarters etc. showed that individual developers etc. mean nothing. Richard Garriot, Brad McQaid, Chris Roberts, Peter Molyneux and many more. All famous for their past work, none delivered since they left their original studio.

Brian Fargo delivered and keeps delivering. Braben delivered. Most of the rest is hard at work.

t also doesn't mean they won't deliver. Track record means literally nothing in this business, either way. Huge money does not guarantee a good game, skilled development does not mean good ideas, but it also does not mean it will be bad.

With any crowd funded project, no one should ever put in more than they can afford to light on fire. If it works out well, yay! If it doesn't, then no harm done. I backed SC to the tune of about $200 which seems like a huge amount to me. But it does not even come close to what others have spent.

I hope this game is excellent, I hope it is amazing. But if it ends up sucking, I won't cry either. Some people are staking thousands and thousands of dollars on it. As hopeful as I am, I have been burned by too many kickstarters to get my hopes up.

I have been more lucky - so far every crowdfunding project I backed was a success. And all the ongoing ones look promising.

Demo opportunities like these - for whatever game, not just SC - are always good.

They give those trying to decide whether they are interested an opportunity to try before spending any money.

In the case of SC its still only in alpha and being crowd funded it has an incentive to do this type of stuff but its always good when it happens. And if you don't like it you move on (Except for those who stick around to bash SC, CU, Pantheon etc.)

They must be really hurting try to find some new (suckers) people to keep paying for their "development process". How many free weekends in the last few months? And how far past the supposed release date is this thing? I will not say SC is a scam, it could just be the worst run development effort in the history of gaming.

I too have only backed a small amount. genre is new to me, so I am finding it OK. Does seem to be taking awhile though, but more is coming faster which makes sense I guess. Nice for existing players to be able to test-fly before you buy too...not only potential new players.

Did you try the different modes...? the arena, free flight...?

Sure there is not much game there but the physics engine controlling the space flight is really solid, especially in the larger ships (the sabre is agile enough that you do not really feel it perhaps)

As for the hangar... I do not think that such a basic task as populating a hangar is even on their radar at this point... If you want lived in and detailed.. take a look at the spaceport. It really looks like a place that people have mistreated for a very long time.

As for the framerates... Yeah.. the game pretty much take a top line or at least upper shelf PC to run even close to playable. No argue there. But that is things that can be tweaked later, i have seen games in stresstest that fixed that with a patch or two.

This have been a good conversation

I think they go a bit overboard with the free flights tbh, it is great that people can try it but it looks a little bit desperate from CIG's end, especially for prototype testing. They are so regular it feels like those scummy credit card junk mail offers you get through your letterbox every week.

The game promises everything under the sun but after five years it's delivered maybe 5% of that, going to be a long ride to get the remaining 95% at this rate, if they don't run out of money before then.

On a more positive note, I did like this screenshot

I love how this is cause célèbre to rain hate on any news related to this game. Every new feature is posted to death about this feature or that feature isn't out yet so the whole thing is a scam. I think many post here to just pad their posting numbers.

Be that as it may, two facts jump out that boosters can not spin or deny: SC is at least 2 years late, and probably more from the time it was supposed to release, and they have raised (and spent most of) $140 mil, and yet they STILL continue to sell ships that don't exist for hundreds of dollars or more, to keep paying for development. Plus there are all too frequent "fly free" weekends, to try to get more people to pay for a game that does not yet exist in coherent form. None of that is good, and it is not "hating" to point that out.

You whole statement is full of holes but I will just ask one question. How is letting people try the game in its current very playable form a bad thing? (i have seen early access with much less) I just tell everyone to check it out see for your self don't spend a dime unless you want to,

I have ZERO problem with allowing players to sort of test ONE simple facet of game design.
However one should ALWAYS question motives, especially if you have followed this game at all.

IMO th emotive is simple,Chris or his marketing team believe that many gamer's will see a cool ship and think i want one and quickly go out and send more money his way.

I have always questioned WHERE all this cash shop money is going because there were SUPPOSED to be stretch goals already funded.Somebody is filling his pockets with money that is suppose to go to the game as well i am sure a very hefty salary along with his wife's hefty salary for making the very odd appearance. Then there is his brother, accounting, leasing, contracting "those outsourced ships are not made for free",the lawyer partner, yeah i an sure there is a boat load of money leaking elsewhere than the game itself.
