400K for what... to make a tech demo? I think its time for KSers to be honest. What is your plans for this 400k? Also cant wait to see if all the CoH fans back this. See if they miss their game as much as they say they do.

@nanfoodle Ship of Heroes has been transparent about their dev timline, which they have followed since the launch of the site Nov 2016. They are launching KS with the base level, Character Creator, Powers/Combat Demo, UI, Signature NPCs, and today flight and team combat demo on the KS page... they will begin Alpha testing in 2017 and Beta in 2018, with a game launch in 2019. Leadership and management of the project is strong and so far they have done what they said they would every step of the way.

I don't know why these things attract so many naysayers. It's the same with every Kickstarter project. The way some people go on about these things, you'd think they were being forced to take part. Here's a novel concept, how about people just ignore things that don't interest them?

I'm backing Ship of Heroes (like I did with Chronicles of Elyria), because I really miss CoH, I want to see this game come to life and I'm willing to put a bit of money aside to help the developers achieve their goals.
lunawisp was my peacebringer in City of Heroes. She lives on, in memory, as my gaming id

because people will attack what they do not understand and to most gamers only triple A games exist!

CoE did a KS, with a list of promises and won the backing of many. Few months later they say, that money was not to finish the MMO. We will be releasing a single player game in the same world setting. We need more funds to give you the list of features on the KS page. Its not that people only play triple A MMOs, its that we have been burned enough to know to ask, what is this money for? Before dropping a penny. This games KS page gives very little info.

While I can agree with you that many do exactly what you are saying, you are also missing the fact that many have been burned through kickstarters. To many people have taken advantage of kickstarter and basically just blown through the money with nothing to show for it. It is one of the reasons many choose to use kickstarter instead of some of the other sites that require the money to be paid back if they don't do what they say they are with the money. I believe companies should have to have 100% transparency any time they use crowd source money to build their game. I mean to say if you are not posting your payments to employees listed by job title only, not by name, and what you are using the money for don't expect many people to back you. Kickstarter has been abused and used to many times in the past few years to make to many people even consider a small amount like just $15 much less a larger payout. I am all for indie companies building games, but I would rather see them come to me with a working alpha before asking for hand outs.

But reading their page, it seems they have invested their own money to get the game to Alpha and the 400k is to finish it.

Would get more pledges IMO if they said this was the funds to finish the game. I guess for now your guess is the best we have =)

I don't really feel it's a guess. From their page:

People say that MMOs can't succeed on Kickstarter these days, because everyone has been burned by scams. But we've invested our own savings to build a playable alpha with team combat first, so you don't have to take our word for it. You can see for yourself how the game will look.

We've also proven that we can actually build a game on time. We've posted a rapid development schedule on our website. We've hit every milestone, and will continue to do so.

Of course, an alpha is not a finished game. There's much more we want to add: new enemy factions, missions, giant raids, planets... the list goes on. Every dollar you donate will bring us closer to launching.

The idea does interest us but not in a good way.

I have mentioned MANY years ago how devs could make games using our money and FREE handouts is not one of them.

Stocks and i mean REAL stock, the ones where you have access to the books, financials and where money is going AND a say or vote when ideas are deemed for change.

I believe in 100% transparency when comes to using gamer's money.

Once again i will use a phrase.....
When you have something to hide, you likely have something to hide".
Devs studios do not want to be held accountable for your money, they do not want o look like an amateur, they want your money and free use of it.

With the Unity Asset Store and Unreal Engine's marketplace, it's really difficult to distinguish how far these devs really are into their projects.

Unreal Engine Marketplace Pack - Character Movement / Abilities: + Unreal Engine Marketplace - Eviro Creation Pack Easy to make what one would believe to be a AAA in the making. I will say that this particular project does look legit, but has a long way to go.

It's got a crap name and a stupid setting. Spaceships flying around with hundreds of heroes with superpowers aboard it. .. jeez.

People asking for 400k like it's no big deal but think about how much free money that is for not having to give anything in return except a promise. Scammers found an angle by preying on the hopes of burned Ex-swg, ex-coh players.
  • MightyUncleanMightyUnclean Member EpicPosts: 3,531
Nooooooope, nope, let down too many times by crowd-funded games that are still in alpha five years later.

If they make it with "Realistic Character Models" Give the option to (FULLY CUSTOMIZE) (CHANGE POWERS) from within your house at any time instead of like DCUO I would back the game, wouldn't hurt having Anime Models too, masks etc.

Just the other day I downloaded Champions Online again. Man that game has a great character creation. Now I am running it on 4K and because of its art-style the graphics don't feel out-dated much.
