Originally posted by chronic05 oh and guildwars is FREE to play when WoW u have to PAY to PLAY what i think isnt right u go into town and buy the game and u r expected to pay to play your own game just after u spent abit of money buying the game kind of sad dont u think well thats what i think dont know about anyone else
looks like someone here lacks the knowledge of server maintmence costs and the cost of the developers developing new patches for new features/bug fixes/new content guildwars is goign to die when the game stops selling vs wow when it stops selling since they got the subscription fees. anyway think before you post.
I tried Guildwars after playing WOW and quit to go back to WOW. Guildwars just didn't grab my attention, the fights were boring and the characters flat and uninspired.
Im an A** really, I get bored real easy, like guildwars which I only played 4months, but every second I played had its value...... And if I wasn't so involved in sports and other stuff and I wasn't so lazy Id start again.
Edit: You just posted it in the guild wars forum , home of the guild wars fanbois (like me) so u would probably get answers that GW is better, so I think you should also post this in the WoW forums
Played WoW to death over the past year and Guild Wars at the same time over the last 6 months; both are really enjoyable games, however Guild Wars is a more rounded and a more complete experience over all - the real beater is the size of the community being (practically) worldwide so therefore it stands up better. that plus the business model is much nicer to the gameplayer..
I play both GW an WoW... to help you better decide on which to purchase, I will break down the cons and pros of both games, I shall try to be unbiased as much as possible. If you have more to add please do, for I may miss one or more points.
GuildWars
Pros: No Monthly Fee, Instant PvP, No more Grinding, Easy on fingers (increase longivity of keyboard) when activating skills, no down time during new patch, play while game patch, no more long hours of waiting to get PvP match ups, no need to install... just open client and start playing anywhere in the world, not a single profession is more overwhelming than another profesison, amazing graphics, amazing theme song, unique profession (mesmer, ritualist) does not exist in any other mmorpg, dual profession makes game play more challenge especially in PvP, balanced enomy, Great story line and amazing AI, produced by Ex-Blizzard developers.
Cons: Automated attack makes you feel lazy, too many immature audience, OMG I just saw my clone... another one!?!, limited party size of maximum 8 in roleplaying mode, no 1 on 1 PvP matches, limited to 5 contenential server change then server became permanent, no guild storage, no auction. Epic armor has same stats as Droknar's Forge armor... just look a lot more better.
World of Warcraft
Pros: larger party size, yay! no more clones, can play on practically any PC (low requirements), unique drops, mind bending dungeons, give the sense of accomplishment once reached lv60, larger instances maps.
Cons: you have to grind till lv60 to be able to fully enjoy PvP, Ever Quest engine... Yuck! bad graphics, long hours traveling between maps, Leeroy Jenkins type of players increases lately, 1 professional can over powered another profession causing unbalanced gameplay.

You DO realize I was being sarcastic -- because the OP can't expect to open such a poll in the Guild Wars forum and expect people to say "WoW is better" -- don't you?
I've been playing GW for months, and it suits my tastes more than WoW.

Posts like this are allways fun to read,.they dont make much sence or have any point really,. but hell,. I post me 2 cents into the madness.
I vote Guildwars,But im a pvp guy,GW has much better pvp and for the most part its alot more balanced, you can unlock all your skills and items and your grind is over.
WOW players that are new to mmo's are just sucked into the same addiction as the rest of us felt in the first one we played, soon you will see that it is horrible and move on. its not your fault.
Neither can be considered better in a fair side-by-side comparison because they’re not even the same type of game:
If all you had in wow were instances, maybe we could really compare them side by side.
If wow had a constraining skill selection system like GW does, then maybe we could compare them side by side.
If GW had an open, public, persistent world like wow does, then maybe we could compare them side by side.
Since they do not, we cannot really say which one is better or worse because they aren't based on the same kind of gameplay, and it all comes down to personal gaming experience preference. To use an analogy, one is a bicycle, the other a motorcycle, and yes, they are both 2-wheeled vehicles. If you prefer, comparing these two games would be akin to comparing the old Diablo and Fallout titles side-by-side; both are rpgs, but none like the other. As such, all I can say is that they are the same genre, and that's as far as I'll go.
Having said that, here are my opinions:
The wow graphics engine is dated when compared to GW’s. The textures lack detail and there are no projected shadows, though the world is in itself detailed in many subtle ways in terms of the world geometry and the number of objects, especially in the city and town environments. There are a lot of little things that make the environments interesting, like the dangling shark in booty bay, the chickens running about in the towns, the cattle grazing the pastures, or the countless npcs that walk around saying the most random things.
GW has beautiful texturing and light effects which surpass the best of wow’s. It also has projected shadows, which adds another further dimension of realism to the game. Both worlds are, however, crafted with different intentions.
While GW is attempting to look like a realistic fantasy environment (I know, an oxymoron), wow is plainly trying to be silly and humoristic with its cartoonish world. It’s not very realistic looking, but then again, that really wasn’t the point anyways.
I do think, however, that wow is begging for a graphical package update. If only I could have GW’s textures and shadows in wow’s engine….. Wishful thinking!
When it comes to gameplay, I prefer wow because the game is slower paced and allows for a lot of non-combative exploration. I do not enjoy the constant, intense combating in GW, it is a bit tiresome for me.
I also enjoy exploring the map leisurely, collecting resources as I go, sneaking around mobs, helping players that I randomly find throughout the world, and so forth. In other worlds, wow is not single-handedly objective or quest-driven. In GW, I am sorry to say, but the maps feel like narrow hallways that lead me to the next group of bad guys I'm supposed to kill. That is all good fun, but after a certain point, I just want to relax and just wander about aimlessly without stress.
This leads me to another point. Because GW is based on private instances, I will never find a player trying something I’ve never seen before by pure chance. And by this I mean that sometimes you can literally say “the other day I was running about out in the middle of nowhere and I saw this guy up in the mountains trying to jump on a rock, and then on a tree branch, to get to this spot where I thought no one could get to…”! You will never be able to do the same in GW! Or I won't find the lower level player who is trying desperately to finish his high-level quest in some obscure corner of the map. It feels really nice to wander about and finding people in the most unexpected places, just as you would in real life.
On the other hand, GW, I am sorry to say, it’s Diablo on steroids. There’s a meeting room (the towns), where people chat, form their groups, set their skills, and then there’s the private game instances, the equivalent of starting the game hosting process of the older generation rpgs. You even have to make sure everyone is ready before entering the instance, much like people had to set the “ready” checkbox in the old rpg text-based meeting rooms. Please do not be insulted if you are a GW fan, but from a technical standpoint, I do not consider GW to really be an mmo. There is no single, giant, virtual world in which we all run and explore. I see it as a large-capacity, graphically uplifted, multiplayer rpg, but this a discussion for a completely different thread.
Then there are the skills. I know that a lot of you players enjoy the constraining aspect of 8 skills only in GW wars, but I personally like to have all the tools that I have learned available for me at any given moment, and to be able to adapt to any situation by trying different combinations of any of my skills on the spot, as it happens. Some of you might see that as making the game easier, I see it as making it more versatile and adaptable and also, it doesn't force me to start from the beginning just to see if my new skill set will work. If I have an idea, I just try it.
Then there's the crafting, skills and economic side of wow. There are many side skills one can develop. There's cooking, fishing, mining, herb gathering, alchemy, etc, and all of these allow you to learn how to manufacture items which you can in turn sell in the auction house. In GW, there is killing, looting and crafting npcs.
Wow has an universal auction house system in which you can strategically invest and play the market, which is fun in itself. Sometimes I'll log in and do nothing more than scout the auction house, studying its patterns, looking for under priced items etc. It's fun, not as fun as going out and do the hunting and the killing and the exploring, but nonetheless, one more fun think that GW lacks. However, to be fair, I know that GW is about to have an auction system added with its coming second generation release. I really look forward to that as I think it will expand the game's possibility.
Well, there u have it, two very different games, each with its gameplay style. If you want to play a more explorative, calm and slow paced game, wow is the game. If you feel like the day belongs to fast, practically unavoidable combat, then GW is the game.
I like having them both, that way I satisfy both cravings!
Neither can be considered better in a fair side-by-side comparison because they’re not even the same type of game:

it took me almost one year to see where gw shines ..
one thing i dont agree with your post tho , if you get in pugs a lot , you do see others doing stuff that you didnt know of , you learn new skill builds , you find lvl 3 people in the desert .
the major diference is , in wow you start walking alone , then all starts to hapan , meet random people etc , in guildwars , you meet random people in towns , then the actions starts ... yes its not so real , its more virtual , i think that is the reason you dont pay to play , becose gw uses the virtuality to make it less server consuming .
for people used to persistent world , its really a downer
im going to try to explain what is a skill build and a team build, and why guildwars is better then wow.
a team build is a combination of skill builds , from 2 person to 8 ( will be 12 in factions )
a skill build is a combination of 8 skills from each person
with a good team build , you get a power that a group of good skill builds cant get
i mean you can have a really good personal skill build , put 8 of that in a team and they cant beat a good combination of skill builds team ,skills that combine with the other player diferent skills.
skills of same or diferent profession , with same or diferent atrribute setings.
becose one player cant be super powerfull in all skill kinds , in each profession he can only be super powerfull in one out of 4 or 5 attributes/skills kinds. but that doesnt mean a team of super powerfull in each ind will win , anything is possible.
all skills work diferently when aplyed with others.
with factions about 900 skills , 8 professions , first and secondary profession , 8 skills bar cap. 8 people per team. builds os 64 skills , 8 each person combining skills , targets and locations
its not hard to see why voice chat is a requirement.
all this is impossible without human relations
and this is not just for pvp , all the game is based on this , sure you can solo most of it with the robot henchys , but you will miss the learning from the other people experience , their builds , the way your skill build can work with others. this is where build wars is fun , to match your skill build with others skill builds , professions , atrributes , runes , all make that makes chars diferent and with possible diferent kind of powers.
what wow brings that guildwars doesnt have , really doesnt fit in a game where combining skill builds is the major factor of power and fun.
i agree guildwars doesnt have much of open areas where you can just walk around and chill out . could have more of that , i vote yes . all the rest i prefer guildwars game play.
One more thing. I agree that these fees are too expensive when compared to any online service. On the other hand if u think of it as going to the movies.. here in the US, a movie ticket costs me about $8 to $9. Wow's fees is less than twice that amount. I can play whenever I want, for however long I want, and it's a good feeling almost every time. With the movies... it's a dice roll. Sometimes the movie is good, sometimes it's just bad, but whichever way it is, the tickets cost me the same.
So, when compared with other forms of entertainment, it's an excellent value, but when compared to the internet economy, it's very over priced.
So, pay (that much) to play does suck. That's why I only play a few months at a time.
GW is basically free, and just for that reason, and though I prefer wow, GW does rock as a game.

Well, here goes my 2 cents…
Neither can be considered better in a fair side-by-side comparison because they’re
not even the same type of game:
If all you had in wow were instances, maybe we could really
compare them side by side.
If wow had a constraining skill selection system like GW does,
then maybe we could compare them side by side.
If GW had an open, public, persistent world like wow does,
then maybe we could compare them side by side.
Since they do not, we cannot really say which one is better or worse because
they aren't based on the same kind of gameplay, and it all comes down to
personal gaming experience preference. To use an analogy, one is a bicycle, the other
a motorcycle, and yes, they are both 2-wheeled vehicles. If you prefer, comparing these two games
would be akin to comparing the old Diablo and Fallout titles side-by-side; both
are rpgs, but none like the other. As
such, all I can say is that they are the same genre, and that's as far as I'll
go.
Having said that, here are my opinions:
The wow graphics engine is dated when compared to GW’s. The textures lack detail and there are no
projected shadows, though the world is in itself detailed in many subtle ways
in terms of the world geometry and the number of objects, especially in the city
and town environments. There are a lot
of little things that make the environments interesting, like the dangling
shark in booty bay, the chickens running about in the towns, the cattle grazing
the pastures, or the countless npcs that walk around saying the most random
things.
GW has beautiful texturing and light effects which surpass
the best of wow’s. It also has projected
shadows, which adds another further dimension of realism to the game. Both worlds are, however, crafted with
different intentions.
While GW is attempting to look like a realistic fantasy
environment (I know, an oxymoron), wow is plainly trying to be silly and humoristic
with its cartoonish world. It’s not very
realistic looking, but then again, that really wasn’t the point anyways.
I do think, however, that wow is begging for a graphical
package update. If only I could have GW’s
textures and shadows in wow’s engine….. Wishful thinking!
When it comes to gameplay, I prefer wow because the game is slower paced and
allows for a lot of non-combative exploration. I do not enjoy the constant,
intense combating in GW, it is a bit tiresome for me.
I also enjoy exploring the map leisurely, collecting resources as I go, sneaking
around mobs, helping players that I randomly find throughout the world, and so
forth. In other worlds, wow is not single-handedly objective or
quest-driven. In GW, I am sorry to say, but the maps feel like narrow hallways
that lead me to the next group of bad guys I'm supposed to kill. That is
all good fun, but after a certain point, I just want to relax and just wander
about aimlessly without stress.
This leads me to another point. Because GW is based on private instances, I
will never find a player trying something I’ve never seen before by pure
chance. And by this I mean that sometimes you can literally say “the
other day I was running about out in the middle of nowhere and I saw this guy
up in the mountains trying to jump on a rock, and then on a tree branch, to get
to this spot where I thought no one could get to…”! You will never be able to do the same in
GW! Or I won't find the lower level
player who is trying desperately to finish his high-level quest in some obscure
corner of the map. It feels really nice to wander about and finding
people in the most unexpected places, just as you would in real life.
On the other hand, GW, I am sorry to say, it’s Diablo on

towns), where people chat, form their groups, set their skills, and then there’s
the private game instances, the equivalent of starting the game hosting process
of the older generation rpgs. You even
have to make sure everyone is ready before entering the instance, much like
people had to set the “ready” checkbox in the old rpg text-based meeting rooms.
Please do not be insulted if you are a
GW fan, but from a technical standpoint, I do not consider GW to really be an
mmo. There is no single, giant, virtual
world in which we all run and explore. I
see it as a large-capacity, graphically uplifted, multiplayer rpg, but this a discussion
for a completely different thread.
Then there are the skills. I know that a
lot of you players enjoy the constraining aspect of 8 skills only in GW wars,
but I personally like to have all the tools that I have learned available for
me at any given moment, and to be able to adapt to any situation by trying
different combinations of any of my skills on the spot, as it happens.
Some of you might see that as making the game easier, I see it as making it
more versatile and adaptable and also, it doesn't force me to start from the beginning
just to see if my new skill set will work. If I have an idea, I just try
it.
Then there's the crafting, skills and economic side of wow. There are
many side skills one can develop. There's cooking, fishing, mining, herb
gathering, alchemy, etc, and all of these allow you to learn how to manufacture
items which you can in turn sell in the auction house. In GW, there is
killing, looting and crafting npcs.
Wow has an universal auction house system in which you can strategically invest
and play the market, which is fun in itself. Sometimes I'll log in and do
nothing more than scout the auction house, studying its patterns, looking for under
priced items etc. It's fun, not as fun as going out and do the hunting
and the killing and the exploring, but nonetheless, one more fun think that GW
lacks. However, to be fair, I know that GW is about to have an auction
system added with its coming second generation release. I really look
forward to that as I think it will expand the game's possibility.
Well, there u have it, two very different games, each with its gameplay style. If you want to play a more explorative, calm

world of warcraft: 25€ or $ ( in two months

So, pay (that much) to play does suck. That's why I only play a few months at a time.
GW is basically free, and just for that reason, and though I prefer wow, GW does rock as a game.
Enjoy both, I say.

want your game back?
Daiblo was a classic. Without games like Diablo I doubt MMOs would of taken off mainstream.

Lol, sorry for the edit but check out the poll in the WoW forum, it can't even win its OWN FORUM.
