What will replace keyboards and Monitors are rather interesting. The problem with VR is the means of displaying it. So far I seen 2.
A: A helmet, you turn your head and it's like mouse look inside the game. It's pretty cool for awhile, but then your neck gets sore from the 5lbs bucket on your head. Not good for MMORPG's since most play for a hour or more at a time.
2: A horde of monitors, I have seen allot of Arcades try this in the 80's and early 90's. Basically you line up a bunch of monitors or have one big "wrap around" monitor. The problem here is the cost of monitors and space.
Image how much room this would take up in your house.
With that said, VR is more or less dead until some else comes along with something that is comfortable for long periods of time and fits in about same space your PC does now.
Taking this further, what would VR mean in terms of a interface. Image being in a room with a bucket helm, move your hand your character moves it's hand. Do you really want to run 20 miles when you play? Would game character skills be based on your skills? How much fun would VR sports be? I'm playing the Video game version for a reason. Do you have enough sword skills to simulate fighting?
I can't see that ever catching on. (not matter how cool it is)

Yeah, that's very true. I wouldn't want to be hacking-and-slashing my way out of hordes of monsters! I'd be tired after the first kill..and plus, I'm really lazy, which is why I play games in the first place! :P
But it'd still be pretty cool to have a VR shooter game.
not really, THye havea new controller out that follow your pupils. you wear a little headband, and your mouse follows you eyes, and it uses other techniques for buttons and things.
I saw a demo of it, and the guy stated that for every game he played, after learning how to play it, wich took a bit of time, he said that he was way better at the game, because your eyes react much faster then your hand ever could.
Expect to see this kind of thing out within a few years, and the technollgy is being perfected... quite an interesting thin gif oyu ask me, ill tyrt o find oyu a internet site about it.
THe keyboard and mouse have boon around too long without magor improments/replacments.
AS its stands here is the current technology in deveopment (actually yo replace each input device)
Mouse - (eye thinger.. forget name, ill look for it) Keyboard - (mind detection device, so far it works on chimpanzese... all the world is, chimpanszee's!...) Monitor - no idea ,but mirror projections (wich is cheaper, lighter and crisper than plasma) is due to be release very soon.
its only a matter of time, i meen if they have made a 4 gig hardrive disk the size of a quarter were more than overdue for some new techno jump with the mouse/keyboard.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
I think VR for MMORPG's is a great idea. If your trying to pretend like your in a whole new world theres no way better to do it than VR. Plus, since you hack and slash the monsters yourself and run yourself, there would be no such thing as using bots.
And instead of people who play mmorpg's 5 hours a day be weak they would actually be very strong because it's almost like a workout, having yourself carry a huge sword or axe.
I could never imagine it now, but maybe in 20 years this will be more familliar to the market.

i still say it will be like shadowrun where you jack into a game. it seems a little more realistic and it would be the fastest you could get anything to go.
