    10. Tendency to believe that relationships are more intimate than they actually are.

I think that describes about 1/2 of everyone on this planet.

I suppose I should make a signature like this then : 50% of the worlds population is emo. If you're one of the 50% that's not, copy & paste into your signature.

    :P

No seriously, I know what you mean. Most people have some of those things, but emos have all of them. It's like emo is the hybrid of all bads things :P

I don't know if that should make me laugh, cry, or have an overly emotional psychotic break.

I've said it before, I will say it again, lock all these sissy-ass bands in a room with Lemmy from Motorhead, and Kerry King from Slayer and then maybe they might grow a pair.

it's the fashionable safe version of punk rock, you know minus the political statement, or anger, or any of the righteousness.

I didn't intend on this becoming an Anti-Emo thread. I posted a thread about love on another forum site and the first response was "I like to call it.....EMO!!" So I came over here and asked what it is. To me it's becoming a cheap way of dissing somebody. Because if you even start to seriously talk about emotions you're automatically Emo to those who are too ignorant to think about what your saying.

I dated one once, all she did was write crappy poetry and junk.
Her friends were crazy and it was just the most retarded relationship.

Well, two years pass and we were still together. I ended up moving so that broke off that connection.

and uh....would I do it all again? something all of us should ask ourselves.....would I do it all again...?

I would pay money to see a emo that is not depressed and is very outgoing. One go hangs out with all kinds of people, can dance, drug free, problem free, and likes to be sexy.

    I WOULD PAY MONEY!

Interesting question by the OP. I've always wondered what the crap about "emo" was about... I don't see a lot of them in this part of the world but perhaps I just don't notice.

And it's actually Getting personal... For I have been called emo. (the crying really is gonan help my case, isn't it? ) So I'm gonna put myself on trial following your definitions.

    Anyways...

    Definition of Emos:

    The symptoms include:

    1. Constant seeking of reassurance or approval

I don't believe people are in any position to judge me, tho I'm obsessed with different perceptions, communication and point of views from a biological and philosphical standpoint so I guess I'm interested in what people think about me. Of course I don't value their opinions.

    2. Excessive dramatics with exaggerated displays of emotions

Heh? I'm always cheery, even when I'm depressed. I noticed it annoys people more than being depressed out in the open.

    3. Excessive sensitivity to criticism or disapproval

     Again, don't care.

    4. Inappropriately seductive appearance or behavior

     Heh? Wots that?

    5. Excessive concern with physical appearance

God no... A bit neurotic on showers tho. But that's about it.

    6. A need to be the center of attention (self-centeredness)

I'm often the centre of attention but that's because I use long words. Supercalafragiceneexpialadoxious.

    7. Low tolerance for frustration or delayed gratification

     Ergl. Nope.

    8. Rapidly shifting emotional states that may appear shallow to others

Nah, more or less always realistic (people call it being negative, screw em).

    9. Opinions are easily influenced by other people, but difficult to back up with details.

Yep, I shift my opinions constantly. According to articles in Science of Nature or something (even tho I don't understand shit most of the time).

    10. Tendency to believe that relationships are more intimate than they actually are.

     Nah. Not at all.

Ok, next up the music. I absolutely... Hate... That crap that's called punk/emo/whatever these days. It makes me want to... Hurt people, and animals.

If you want real punk => Sex Pistols, PIL.

I also like Dire Straits, Sisters Of Mercy, ...

    Clothing and hair.

Mmmh... Too lazy to get haircuts most of the time... I have the stuff people put in their heair these days. Tho it must come in handy when they have to oil a car.

Wear all kinds of shit. Don't really care.

I used to be outgoing. Not drugfree (never heard emo's doing drugs). Not problem free (who is?). Sexy when the lights are out.

So I guess I'm not emo.

    Next thread should be:

"Who are those people who manage to create subcultures out of tiny differences and discard all deeper emotions without haveing experienced any of their own?"
  • KhuzarrzKhuzarrz Member Posts: 578

This was REALLY not a good post to start... Ignore everyones biased views... If you actually want a factual answer so you can say "yay or nay" to an emo... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo

Wikipedia owns you all, AS EVER...

I'm amazed that with all the comments about 'wannabe goths/punks/rockers' noone has mentioned 'wannabe metal heads'... The sole thing that's most annoying about your average emo is that they think they listen to metal because "it's got double bass and tonnes of shredding"... So's an office building with a Jazz quintet, but that's not metal -_-

And one final point... The self-harm thing... Just wanna mention that while self-harm rates have gone up over the last 20 years (the only time that it's really been studied at all) to somewhere between 1 in 6 and 1 in 9 teens trying it, the same studies have showed it's actually just as big a trend in inner city areas with 'chavs' or whatever you call them in your area (the little shits with stupid Nike tracksuits and faux-hawks and stuff) as it is with other teenage groups... It was in fact intellectuals that showed the highest rate of self harm, so next time you see someone with a side-fringe, wait until you see someone with short-back-and-sides and THEN start the lawn mower jokes...

The only other fad that is worse than emo kids is these gangsta/Scarface wannabes. Whats the deal with these gangsta kids thinking they are hardcore when they've been living in the suburbs in an 800k house with their parents their whole life? They try to act like Eminem but they end up looking like Vanilla Ice.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Emo is simply cutting yourself for the pain. And people have scarface in many ways wrong. He didn't even like that name.

My mind has changed so much. Yet I'm still acting like I'm the same.

    Emo is not cutting yourself.

Self-Injury is real problem, today, and not just in 'emos'. I know plenty of people who aren't emo, that have struggled with self injury. It's rather offensive to just lump all self-injurers together as "emo".
